- The Union Station Master Plan will guide future development of the station to help it become an even greater destination. This conceptual animation offers a glimpse of how the station may evolve over the years to come.
It'll be great if they add the through tracks.
I'll be six feet under long before this is complete.
Can't wait! Union Station has always been one of my favorite places to travel through.
with L.A. looking like its finally about to grow verticly the metro station needs a huge upgrade. its sad the auto and airline industries forced so many American cities into abandoning rail because if hadn't L.A. would be far more developed by now. Metro systems are what entice buissnsess to come to large cities.
LA isn't developed? In America trains are second fiddle to air travel
Will always be a car city... so embedded in the region.
The city developed car centric over the past 80 years (and suburbs are still growing in irvine, chino hills etc). Though lots have been done over the last 20 years, it will take longer for residential areas to change enough to see the effects. A similar city is Richmond in Vancouver. It was mostly SFR in the 80s 90s, then they started building high rises in late 90s and continued to this day. It is a huge transformation together with its Skytrain system. Still very car centric, but also very urbanized with all those new buildings.
Please don't remove the east side of Unions Station doom building is really perfect for to walk though.
gblueslover2 he probably meant Dome Building
looks sick!
I like these plans, but they should stop at the end of stage two, where Union looks open and welcoming.
Stage three simply over-saturates the block, and makes it look like a giant mall.
They gotta pay for it somehow
that's actually how most of these metro station make money in other countries. These are supposed to be prime real estate for malls and restaurants.
Interesting To know and see the future !!!!!!
I'd certainly look forward.
I love it all. It is going to be amazing. The run through tracks will speed up travel quickly and allow more trains through union station. When Metrolink electrifies and adds infill stations and more frequency, it can nearly double the rail coverage of the LA Metro with fast and frequent service. Right now it is like one every hour outside peak hours and stops at a certain time at night. But what if it came every 20 minutes and runs a last train like midnight. Because of this, tens of thousands of people mre than now might be coming in and out of Union Station to connect to a bus or Metro train to LAX flyaway or visit Olvera Street.
1:33....RIP Dennys! You will be missed!
That Denny's sucked!
Let’s just say that the most of us will never forget that Denny’s.
It will take about fifty years before it’s all done and if it’s actually done because the union contractors will milk the crap out of it with cost increases.
Cool! That’s going to be very nice when done.
Great place for the homeless to shoot up and urinate.
I love Union Station the way it is.
MICHAEL GLASS I love it the way it was too!
I agree with you Michael Glass. Keep Union Station as it is. Los Angeles Union Station is the most beautiful passenger & commuter train station in the entire U.S., then the San Diego Santa Fe Depot comes in second.
@@christophers.o622 so the only ones youve been to
@anthony diaz Future is Ugly!
@anthony diazasshole i was Born in the Year 2000
But i would Life in a Single Family House and Not in a Panel House or a Block
is this being built with bonds(IOU's/free money)
9 years later and it hasn’t happened, thank god
Sweet!
Feel like I would get lost now
Was this why Unity Station (the parody of Union Station in GTA: San Andreas) wasn't added to GTA 5?
Union Station does not need to be upgraded. I like it the way it is and I haven't even been there yet. The construction alone will cause huge headaches for a lot of people. Yes the old Harvey House restaurant needs to have new tenants but the old ticketing area should remain the same with just a few enhancements to make it usable again.
Fantastic plan! Can't wait.
So 9 years after, how's the plan going?
They're just 5 years away from deciding which plan is going to be built. And 20 years away from starting construction. It's just like the L.A. to San Francisco High Speed Rail project. It's slated to be completed in the 22nd Century.
Great, Lets build-it!
Bravo .....metro planning is the best .....could you guys at metro ....please help lax .....
Have they done the renovations?
Leave Union Station Alone Its Fine Like This.
They never should have built either those apartments or the MWD building on that property!
It’s best to do it now before it gets harder to build it when people like you don’t approve. Your kids will love it tho. 1hr to San Francisco and 1hr to Disneyland
@@noisypopcornguy would you Like a Los Angeles, without Bungalows and small Buildings and only modern-futurism Skyscrapers????
is this still a possibility?
8 years later...
Are these changes actually happening
I m all for progress, but I hope they don t modernize it tooo much
Me neither! but it seems like they are going to preserve a lot of the old stuff. Many station in Europe have old stations with a modern touch in it which is pretty cool :)
No parking for amtrak employees where buses might go?
I actually like the old look of the current platforms, so I'm not a big fan of modernizing that area.
Same here :/
yeah same here😞
Brandon Hu omg you all are nuts. The current platforms are a joke! So inadequate for a major metropolitan city
I love the older building better #norebuild
Have they done the renovations as shown in the video?
Removing brand new condos? Good luck with that.
Those NEVER should have been built in the first place! Same with the MWD building.
i like the old Union Station better.
the old one still there just that they making the east side better
Amtrak Surfliner Me too.
Amtrak Surfliner where is CA gonna get the cash?It will stay that way!
Amtrak 6903 Train Poductions Well Metro owns Los Angeles Union Station so they can do whatever they want.
I agree with you totally, I don't really like the idea either. it's fine the way it is..
an expensive makeover of a historical site basically just to create more retail space so that we can continue to consume......👌 ok I got it.
They can't do this union station is good the way it is!
It's alway empty in there! It would be nice to see a little life like a main station is supposed to be :)
Stop freakin upgrading union station and leave it as is ooookkkkayyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can it be okay like this now? It definitely need an upgrade.
Who knows civilization may arrive in LA yet...
Lmao the high-speed rail ain't ever coming so don't worry. Another waste of money in California
If the Central Valley Segment works, then it will happen.
LOL
Will pigs fly?
Having worked for Santa Fe, BNSF, Union Pacific plus a brief 3 1/2 month stint at the MTA Rail Communications Division in LA all this blather about rail transit in LA is all mental masturbation and a vast waste of tax payers money. When I worked at the MTA the joke was that if you reversed the letters you get ATM which is how Tudor Saliva and the other rail construction contractors viewed the passenger rail construction work… Follow the money.
They should not do this!
@anthony diaz would you Like a Los Angeles without Bungalows and small Buildings and only modern-futurism Skyscrapers????
What a colossal waste of money! Where are the parking lots for all of the new visitors? Who is going to use all of these new retail businesses? Nobody goes to this part of downtown to do shopping. This new concept will increase the distance people will have to walk to get to their trains. All this project will do is line the pockets of contractors and politicians!!!!
Finally, how many people per day are going to use this MEGA-Structure?? Will it be like Shibuya station in Japan with more than 3,000,000 people per day??? Even a moderately busy station in Japan like Tokyo Station has over 400,000 people using it every day.
Right now at rush hour, hardly anyone uses Union Station. That's because its trains don't go anywhere and the lines that do, are SLOW and filled with smelly people. LA doesn't have any meaningful mass transit and it never will. This pie in the sky concept for Union Station is just a campaign contribution to the unions and local politicians.
Not until we have babies might my my brother and my cousin my father has to make five babies I'm not building no more stations until a babies because they need new drivers the drivers you have no one to work they asking for a raise every day so when we have babies then we will work until then I'm on vacation I'm going back home in India you guys have a good day
It's called progressivism and modernization. Those against the restructuring project must have voted Republican .
Ismael Eddie Rivera California was great when it was run by Republicans.
It’s a disaster today.
Today this, tomorrow Blade Runner
Would you Like this?
A los Angeles without Bungalows and small Buildings and only modern-futurism Skyscrapers?
Keep wasting taxpayers money
