    with L.A. looking like its finally about to grow verticly the metro station needs a huge upgrade. its sad the auto and airline industries forced so many American cities into abandoning rail because if hadn't L.A. would be far more developed by now. Metro systems are what entice buissnsess to come to large cities.

      Will always be a car city... so embedded in the region.

    • @vitasoy1437
      @vitasoy1437 Před rokem

      The city developed car centric over the past 80 years (and suburbs are still growing in irvine, chino hills etc). Though lots have been done over the last 20 years, it will take longer for residential areas to change enough to see the effects. A similar city is Richmond in Vancouver. It was mostly SFR in the 80s 90s, then they started building high rises in late 90s and continued to this day. It is a huge transformation together with its Skytrain system. Still very car centric, but also very urbanized with all those new buildings.

    I like these plans, but they should stop at the end of stage two, where Union looks open and welcoming.
    Stage three simply over-saturates the block, and makes it look like a giant mall.

    I love it all. It is going to be amazing. The run through tracks will speed up travel quickly and allow more trains through union station. When Metrolink electrifies and adds infill stations and more frequency, it can nearly double the rail coverage of the LA Metro with fast and frequent service. Right now it is like one every hour outside peak hours and stops at a certain time at night. But what if it came every 20 minutes and runs a last train like midnight. Because of this, tens of thousands of people mre than now might be coming in and out of Union Station to connect to a bus or Metro train to LAX flyaway or visit Olvera Street.

    Union Station does not need to be upgraded. I like it the way it is and I haven't even been there yet. The construction alone will cause huge headaches for a lot of people. Yes the old Harvey House restaurant needs to have new tenants but the old ticketing area should remain the same with just a few enhancements to make it usable again.

When I worked at the MTA the joke was that if you reversed the letters you get ATM which is how Tudor Saliva and the other rail construction contractors viewed the passenger rail construction work… Follow the money.

    What a colossal waste of money! Where are the parking lots for all of the new visitors? Who is going to use all of these new retail businesses? Nobody goes to this part of downtown to do shopping. This new concept will increase the distance people will have to walk to get to their trains. All this project will do is line the pockets of contractors and politicians!!!!
    Finally, how many people per day are going to use this MEGA-Structure?? Will it be like Shibuya station in Japan with more than 3,000,000 people per day??? Even a moderately busy station in Japan like Tokyo Station has over 400,000 people using it every day.
    Right now at rush hour, hardly anyone uses Union Station. That's because its trains don't go anywhere and the lines that do, are SLOW and filled with smelly people. LA doesn't have any meaningful mass transit and it never will. This pie in the sky concept for Union Station is just a campaign contribution to the unions and local politicians.
