  • Kandy #srilanka #trending #viral is a major city located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the Sinhalese monarchy from 1469 to 1818, under the Kingdom of Kandy. The city is situated in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Historically, the local Buddhist rulers resisted Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial expansion and occupation.
Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka. It's set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforest. The city's heart is scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling. Kandy is famed for sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) shrine, celebrated with the grand Esala Perahera annual procession.

Hello Kay and Gogo, In Sri Lanka the finger millet is called kurakkan. Halapa is a traditional Sri Lankan sweet treat. It's prepared with a combination of kurakkan flour, rice flour, treacle, cardamom, and grated coconut. The leaves that are used are called Kenda leaves (Macaranga peltata) which are commonly found in Sri Lanka. Kenda leaves are used to flatten the dough and wrap before steaming the Halapa. Now a days some people may use Caramelized sugar syrup, however traditionally treacle (such as Coconut Treacle or Palmyrah Treacle) is used as the sweater.

I love how all of the stalls and buildings have the traditional pagoda-like Kandyan roof design (12:16). You can tell it's quintessentially Sri Lankan. I will visit this place one day.

The food seen at 15:08 / 26:20 is called Lavariya. The filing which is called Pani Pol, in the Sri Lankan native Sinhala language, is made from grated coconut & jaggery and flavored with cardamom powder. The outer layer made as a big string hopper from the rice flour dough. Lavariya is another Sri Lankan sweet treat.

Sri Lankan sweets are different from communities to communities..Most of the sweets you ate are from Sinhala Community recipes.
One with string hopper inside graeted coconot honey falvoured is called Laveria.. One with srong hopper like sugary zigsag pattern is called Asmi..( not ask me)😊 It needs a very rare verity of cinnamon called daul kurundu which is endemic to SL..that oil makes the string hopper hard..you will not find this sweet anywhere in the world..Most of the sweets you ate are made out with rice flour, coconut, sugar, honey, end essense like cardomon, clove etc.
