  • How to replace a Porsche Boxster 986 Starter or Carrera 911 996 Starter Motor. It's not a hard job just takes time to pull the two main bolts and remove the two wires connected to the starter.

I just replaced my starter on my 2000 boxster S. The hard to reach bolt can be accessed thru the top. Just remove the spring clamp from the plastic tube 1 1/2 diameter and move it out of the way. Get a ratchet and socket in there. Can get your hand in there to thread it back in.

This is the only job that I beat you to. An easy job to do if you have a bit of common sense. Keep them coming Brian.

Lol true keeping things simple and just being able to mentally see how things go together helps! Thanks for watching!!!

Hi Brian, just did it and have some TIPS FOR OTHERS. PS Couldn't have done it without your video, so a massive thanks from me and by Bank account:
1: I spent an hour trying to get the rubber Manifold sleeves back. Then used some washing up liquid smeared around the rim and it slipped on like a glove.
2: I was initially scared by the fact that although very similar, there are many slight differences. For example I had to disconnected the throttle body along with it's rubber intake, unlike Brian. So, just take your time it will be fine. I took 4 hours plus a wasted hour on the above mentioned manifold.

Great video Brian! Is the process for the 987 Boxster any different?

Sam I am betting that it would be really close for the 987 as well. Thanks for watching!

Great video however on my 3.2 S it is impossible to break the second 15mm bolt that you suggested we go through the engine block near the alternator.
The rest of the stuff came away pretty easily and I changed the oil cooler whilst I was doing this but with all the extensions the angle is never right for it to “sit on”....has anyone else had difficulty as wherever I try to fish the extensions through they always are too high to make decent contact...it’s also impossible to break from up above.... please help!!
