I think there are also 2 points that foreshadow the connection between Petelgeuse and Emilia. In S1 EP23 when Petelgeuse sees Emilia he immediately starts shedding tears. And after Emila defeats Petelgeuse, Emila also sheds tears without knowing exactly why. Despite the madness, something in him recognizes Emila. Likewise with Emilia, something in her remembers Petelgeuse despite Pandora having erased (blocked) her memories. Which makes the fight between the two more tragic and sad.
Further proof that Otto is best girl: he's the heroine that got Subaru back on his feet! And now that you've seen Betelgeuse's backstory, there's an added layer of meaning to what he said to Subaru in season 1 while he was mangling Rem: "And because of that, the girl is dead! Because she's partially an elf, her physical body is similar to that of a 15 year old human when she woke up, and her mental age is around 18 at the current point in the story.
When she woke up she was physically 18. Her years lived are 15. And mental age is somewhere between 15 and 18 in this season as her mind adapts rapidly. When she woke up she had lived 7 years and woke up in an 18 year physically body.
Just a note, most of the Witches were human. Not Elves. She doesn't have to be Satella's Daughter to be "the Witch's" daughter. And who even knows what the fuck Pandora is talking about. I'd trust everyone else's words before taking her's at face value.

Something that was never revealed in the anime but only teased at the start of season 2 was that Geuse was Beatrice's manners teacher back when he was still the same man who was in Emilia's backstory. Echidna was the one who got him to be Beatrice's manners teacher. That's why Beatrice knew who Geuse was. His downfall into sanity and then finding out about his death sent a ripple through her heart as it was again one more person who she knew that died before her.
Pandora isn´t referring to Satella.. just "a witch". Emilia is a witchs daughter.. and we´ve already seen plenty. There´s a much better candidate already for who it could be.. and you might see. But we don´t know.. we do know that Emilia isn´t Satellas daughter. Good thing people warned you, because that would have been a huge misunderstanding.
Pandora is a character that is so easy to hate. Her mannerisms, her actions, her warped and amoral view of things... but most importantly, it is how insidious she is. The way she whispers in everybody's ear, twisting their perception as she twists reality with her Authority. Truly, a hateful villainess. I'm sure that, when the time comes for us to find out why she is doing all this, even then we will still hate her guts. That's the mark of a good villain, a true villain. One that is understandable, but utterly irredeemable. One who relishes in the use of their power as they impose their vision as the only acceptable truth regardless how wrong or twisted it is. One who pursues their goal with single-minded obsession, not caring about the means. She is seriously only around for 2 frikin' episodes and I already truly despise her. I love how Emilia's voice grows ever more hateful and aggressive with each consecutive "Die!". Such a horrible scene, but ultimately cathartic. That's Grade A writing. Right there.
As it causes confusion, this is important to know: Pandora is in fact an eighth Witch. She also didn't die 400 years ago (as she appears in Emilia's past 100 years ago). She is separate from all of the dead witches and also sealed Witch of Envy. This is 100% trustworthy information (unless author disputes it in some arc, that isn't published yet, but that's unlikely). !Minor spoiler for the upcoming episode! Also, you'll soon see another entity of Witches' stature (not like the pesky bishops, but real one). Devil of Melancholy, who is basically representing Melancholy, but is male unlike witches (he isn't a bishop, but an actual origin). His name is Hector. Sometimes translated as Warlock of Melancholy too. So there's total of 9 Sin factors (not 7 like most of history in the Re Zero world remembers). Also this comment doesn't spoil anything beyond this season. Some thoughts on that: it's not so simple anymore as it was ("Witch of Envy killed the other Witches, she's the most evil"). At least 2 other similar beings simingly weren't killed then (well, about Hector it's unclear, because we see him at the point 400 years ago (but it's clearly written in books, that 6 Witches were killed and consumed actually by the Witch), but Pandora is clearly alive and well 300 years after Witch of Envy's "rampage"). The plot thickens.

in Japanese there is no difference in the statements "the witch's daughter," "the witches'' daughter," and "a witch's daughter." Pandora is saying the last one.
no we know her mom is not Echidna. Fortuna said to her that she got her white hair and purple eyes from her father (Fortuna's brother). Which means her mother definitely does not have either of those traits. @@seynoonrae2474
I haven't finished the video yet so idk if you already mentioned it 😅 But here's my sorta theory: Pandora removed herself from Emilia's memories before she froze, she likely (I don't know, could be a very wrong guess) did the same thing to Guese which means he basically just killed Fortuna which led to Emilia going into a rage and freezing the forest without Pandora being there. Instead he has to fill in the blanks of what happened, and he did that by blaming 'love' idk either way Guese's story is so messed up!

In Japanese, she doesn’t say “THE witch.” It’s simply, “a witch’s daughter.” It could be any witch. To go more in detail, though common articles “a / the” are not used in Japanese, if they did want to emphasize that Emilia was a certain witch’s daughter, i.e., the Witch of Envy, they would have said, “ano majo no musume” あの魔女の娘, or “THAT Witch’s daughter.” So don’t think that this word / translation choice was some clue to mean that Emilia was Satella’s daughter. (I don’t know either way as I haven’t read the novels… my theory is that Emilia is a certain teary-eyed witch’s daughter).

I really love the obvious symbolism of Pandora's name. Like how shes trying to open a door that if opened would essentially unleash unspeakable evil into the world or something. Just like a certain box, and shes Pandora. I also love how season 2, while vague, pretty much sets up the end game for Rezero, from Pandora and the door, to Satella stuff with Subaru. Also genuine question for anyone else during their first time watching these episodes, did anyone else think at some point Pandora would just turn her face towards the screen and start directly talking to Emilia and Echidna? Now that would be creepy.
also one of her last lines was "as sure as the snow melts and the ice thaws, we will meet again" which sets a time, location, and reason for meeting once more.
"When the ice and the snow melts, we will meet again" I just realized Pandora might be frozen somewhere in the forest and there might be a whole arc with her when the forest is unfrozen again. There might be a snake as well. I love never stoping finding new details in this anime
I'm not a light novel reader so I'm not sure but why would Pandora be frozen? Betelgeuse made it out of the forest alive when he's less stronger than Pandora. I think what Pandora meant is that they'll meet again when Emilia will be freed from the ice that's sealing her

From what I understood as an anime-only, Pandora can overwrite what is the truth. If she wills it, something will become the truth, or, "always have been" the truth. Sending Regulus away on the pretense of him "never having been there in the first place", leading to Geuse's arm "never having been chopped off". Erasing people's memories. Changing people's perception. Making herself not be dead (I'm still unsure how she does this _after_ her body gets disintegrated. My guess would be her body is either a double, not her "real" self, or she is able to set a "timer" for when her power should activate, even if it is shortly after her death).
I think her only weakness is that she can not interact with the world for her authority to work. Precisely why she could not force Emilia to open the seal.
I'm also an anime-only so i'm just theorizing but Pandora's powers are crazy. She sent Regulus away with the idea that he had "never been there in the first place" but Geuse still retained his sloth witch factor. This means either 1. The witch factors might be special or something cuz it affects the soul? 2. Pandora has absolute control over what gets rewritten (which is just broken , I don't see how she could ever lose ) 3. She's some sort of illusionist? which might make sense considering she's the witch of vanity
The most likely attribute of Pandora's power is that she can affect reality, but just a reality that is directly tied with herself. She brought Regulus there and because of that Geuse's arm got blown off. After that she made it so she never actually brought Regulus and it that way he was teleported away and Geuse's arm was not chopped. Pandora later affected what Geuse and Fortuna saw, because it was tyed to her own apparence. She erased Emilia's memories which were tied to herself.
After you finish this season you should Watch a Video recapping all of the stuff thats been cut. Because there has been *_A LOT_* of content that they had to cut to fit everything in this season. A lot of things you've found confusing will make _a ton_ more sense after you learn about this cut content, *_Including Satella._*
Reminder, the history in re zero is convoluted at best. Stuff may not be exactly as we are told. For example, people still think it was Satella who made the mabeasts including the 3 great fiends, which we already know it's bullshit since it was Daphne who created them. You ever notice how none of the witches seem to hold a grudge towards Satella (besides Echidna), their supposed killer? Echidna even let some details about Sekhmet's death slip when she is first talking about the witches with Subaru. Sekhmet died while fighting the dragon Volcanica. So yeah, don't go doubting any and every piece of historical info in re zero by any means, but do keep in mind, there is a 50% chance there is more to it. And unless time is convoluted as well (which may be honestly, but this is merely speculation) none of the witches we know can be Emilia's mother. They all died at least 400 years in the past, while Emilia herself is a bit over 100.

5:05 they only call Satella "the witch" in the modern era where everyone has forgotten about the existence of the other witches. This trial is not the modern era and Pandora herself is a witch so she knows about the other witches and will refer to them with the old rhetoric. Super important to remember that the past and the present have different ways of referring to things. For example in the present day they don't call authority users witches, they just call them archbishops. Functionally they are the exact same. It's also worth mentioning that Re:zero loves it's word play and relationship dynamics. "Daughter" isn't always literal. Just as Puck refers to Emilia as his daughter, how Emilia refers to Fortuna as mother, or how Subaru refers to Ram as big sis. These familial terms are only to represent who would have claim to another on a close relationship level. So another way to translate "witches daughter" in this context is "someone treasured by a witch like a daughter". There's also the matter of inheritance. Conceptually re:zero plays with that too. For example one could argue that the clones of Ryuzu meyer are the original's "daughters". The truth is you're not supposed to know what that "witches daughter" comment from Pandora is supposed to mean, because with the way Re:zero does things and speaks sentimentally, it can have any number of meanings.
Long long ago, I mean the reality world story. That has 8 deadly sin: Sloth, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Vanity, Melancholy. After some years, they see Vanity some kind of Pride, see Melancholy some kind of Sloth, so they delected that two sins and added a new sin, Envy. So, in this story, you will see all 9 of them, 8 witch and 1 evil.
Actually, I am more than sure there is more to Geuse's backstory, since he mentions "Flugel", who means a lot for Re:zero lore, and he is sorry to him for using witch factor, that means its yet to be explained
One detail that was omitted was that those "fairies" Emilia thought was helping her was actually Pandora the entire time. She had intentionally led her to the seal and was planning this all out from the very beginning. Also as you saw, the reason Geuse mistook Fortuna for Pandora was because Pandora used her authority to make him see them that way
*Veteran rezero fan here* Yes, its pretty reasonable to assume that she isn't puck. Also for the witch factor thingy, I have a theory that whenever vanity gives people authorities, it's a corrupted form of the actual authority. Since the witches are all non-existent in the world, it could very well be that vanity went around gifting powers to people to amplify her influence. Also (unconfirmed theory): witch factor when given to a contradictory personality, can actually corrupt the person- they basically become insane (like geuse) if they get the witch factor that doesn't *belong* to them.
i think that its when she does give them the title of it, that does something ominous. not specifically the witch gene, rather the name it was given. subaru doesnt have a name and he could pick authorities with no problem.

As I said before, it could be that the corruption happens when vanity gives it or it could also be that its just a general affect. Both could also be true. Also maybe subaru has all the qualities of laziness to himself as well, in a sense that he overcame laziness and hence became to be the rightful owner of the sloth witch factor.

It really isn't like that, the more compatible a person is with their witch factor, the stronger it'll be or the more useful it'll be. The compatibility also takes two possible evolutions inside the person, one is the sinful path and the other is the virtuous path. At least that's how ReZero lore is understood nowadays.

Emilia just called herself a Witch of the Winter Forest not because she is a witch but because since everyone has called her a witch might as well own it and not be upset about it every single time. Also Re Zero takes all the existing sins and not only the more known 7.

it works in percentages Emilia is HALF-Elf. That means that 50% of her parents weren't an Elf. Satella is known to be a Silver Haired Half-Elf. If Emilia was Satella's daughter, how would she be HALF-Elf if one of her parents was already Half-Elf? It wouldn't fit would it? 100% Elf + 50% elf make either a 25% elf if the genes of the non-elf prove dominant or 100% elf if the elf genes prove dominant. it's not a confirmed theory but it is a popular one. However, it's been mostly debunked. The witch factors have no confirmed canon explanation as to why they're stronger in certain people. It might even just be luck. but having a witch factor can make you even stronger than the witch that had it first, like the case with regulus for example. That's regardless of what anyone else says really. Another thing is that having an authority or "witch factor" does not mean it will be the same as the previous users. For example, Subaru does not have unseen hand. It looks like unseen hand, but it is in fact different in several key ways, some of which have yet to be explained even now. Echidna's authority isn't explicitely known, but it is very different to regulus's authority. the list goes on.
Think about Echidna's personality. Sanctuary isn't a prison, it's a containment laboratory. Just like her contract with Betty wasn't to make her suffer indefinitely, but an experiment to see if she'd ever make a decision on her own. There's a way out of the lab if qualified people volunteer as lab rats and pass her tests. That seems to be how all her deals are.

They finalyl show how Geuse turned out the way he is. Thing is, I'm not sure if Emilia knew of what happened to him being killed as a Sin Archbishop. Kind of sad there's no positive reuniting of him and Emilia at least. One questions of yours is sort of answered by the 3rd season trailer. I hope you do a react to it after you finish season 2. Okay, so I think the confusion with the true connection between Emilia and Satella/Witch of Envy is cause that the light novel the entire series is based on is still ongoing and the web novel that originally started it is apparently also still ongoing. For now, there's no actual answer to Emilia and Satella's connection but Emilia is sure she isn't the witch's daughter so that's what people would believe but the characters themselves might be dropping hints we're not sure of. No one's lying, no one just knows the right answer at the moment.
When people call her the "witch's daughter," I interpret it more like the witch's HEIR, someone who does not necessarily share a direct bloodline, but due to their similarities, might become the next witch. It has been said by the Witch's Cult that they wish to use Emilia as a vessel for the Witch of Envy, to essentially reincarnate her, and we've even seen recently that she CAN be possessed by the Witch, so maybe there's actually something there that justifies the belief.

You sure are right it got Dark. And I thought your worry about it being too happy a few episodes ago was definitely right that we knew something bad was going to happen. But this hits so hard in the heart especially her losing her mother figure who basically raised her. It is definitely one of the more brutal episodes especially for Emilia at such a young age to witness losing I would say the person she loved most. The tragic character that is Petelgeuse. I advise anyone to go back to season 1 and watch his dialogue again, everything will be different. And yes, if you are not compatible with the witch factor, it will corrupt you. The moment he used the sloth witch factor, the battle for control started. They visualized it with the blood coming from his eyes etc pp. This was not included in the anime but when Satella joined the tea party, everyone greeted her as Satella, not as the witch of envy. It was elaborated upon that when Satella took in the witch factor of Envy, her personality got split in 2 as she was not compatible with the sin. Satella, who we saw during the tea party who was caring for Subaru, not envious at all and the Witch of Envy who we saw every other time.
The witch factors are complicated you can be compatible with them while at the same time not. Satella would be an example of that, she was a great vessel for her factor/authority which is one of the reasons she was so powerful, but her mind was not compatible so it broke her and create The Witch and Satella is the name that remains for what is left of her original being. Geuse was neither a good vessel nor mentally compatible, which is why he is relatively week as a bishop. The other witches were fairly compatible as vessel and mentally, which is why they are much more stable. Now things get really complicated as there is more to being a witch than just having the witch factor/authority, since one of the bishops is also female, yet not a witch. Another thing to consider is that the witches still seem to posses their powers, yet the bishops have their factors/authorities.
No, we're not effing you - first, even through Arc 8 (this is Arc 4) we still haven't been told who Emilia's mother is. But it's basic genealogy (I think that's the right term?) - If we know Emilia is half-elf, and we know Emilia's father was full elf, and we know Satella is half elf... Satella cannot be Emilia's mother because that would make Emilia 75% elf and 25% human... and that would mean Emilia would be able to escape the Sanctuary, not being half human and half something else - but we've been told Emilia is currently trapped in the sanctuary because she's half human and half elf. That being said - it would be fairly easy for Emilia to be the "witch's daughter" without her being Satella's daughter, because there are at least 6 other witches, and there's a very prominent fan theory (one I personally subscribe to) as to which one actually is Emilia's mother - and it's not Satella.

The thing with this show is that so far no one really has the answers to any of the big questions because the story is as yet incomplete and none of the big answers have been revealed yet. There is just a swarming hive of questions and theories. There are shorter term answers about upcoming events and arcs but the big questions are all unanswered and everyone has their own guesses. Why and how was Subaru brought here, what is his connection to Satella? What happened 400 years ago with Satella/WoE and her sealing? What is Emelia’s connection to events, who are her parents, what is the seal, what is Pandora after? What is Puck’s real connection to Emelia? Where is the story going? Will Subaru ever see his parents again. Just what the heck is going on???
Look at it this way: if the Witches were the Gotei 13, the Witch of Vanity/Vainglory is the Aizen of the bunch. She went rogue and weirdly enough, nobody seems to talk about her all that much in the ReZero world, much like the other character still about to show up.
There are several details that are easy to overlook in this chapter but are important. for example the fact that Roswal knew nothing about Otto despite having a book that literally tells him the future. so Roswal knows that Subaru's power exceeds anything he knows. or like the fact that they called Emilia the daughter of a witch as well as that Fortuna said that her sister-in-law would be upset with her. Anger is a sin..!
As I said in the last episode already. Satella, the witch of envy, can't be the mother of Emilia. They are both half-elf, and that's already where the problem lies. Since there are no other half-elves except Emilia and Satella, the mixed race must be human and elf. So, if Satella were to be her mother, Emilia wouldn't be half-elf. She would be quarter-elf or quarter-human. Because the blood ration would be 1:2 and not 1:1. Anyway, hope this might help you with your theory a bit.

These two would result in what we know as Emilia. So it's just a logical conclusion. If they're all saying "witches-daughter", then that might mean that Emilia is the daughter of a witch, which could be wrong, there's no denying that. However, after all is said and done, the mother and father must be human + elf. There's no half-elf in there like Satella. So it already rules her out as a candidate.

I have faith in Tappei, that he will come up with a conclusion that will satisfy the past interactions. Edit: Important side-note - With the information we currently have, the possibility for Satella to be her mother has been ruled out, if the way she was born would be normal. That's fact. Any other roundabout way of birth has never been mentioned in the Anime to this episode. There might be speculations about time-travel, lab experiments, spirit birth, etc., but there is not enough evidence supporting these. So I'm going with the most obvious solution so far - if facts change or if something comes up to being wrong, then this will change my view instantly.
Ah, the magical world of Re:zero, where the laws of physics are sometimes a bit different from the ones we know, people can actually lose the ability to see colors from sheer mistrust and Pandora, who seems to be able to warp reality itself, has quite a bit of things she simply cannot do and is forced to rely on others
luke i think you need to understand the timing of events in re zero, 400 years ago, the witchs all died and satella was sealed up, 114 years ago, emilia was born while satella was still sealed, and then she froze herself along with the forest when she was 7 years old. her parents do have a role since pandora did something to them, possibly killed them according to fortuna, but thats upto speculations, anyways emilia being the witch's daughter or any of the witch's daughter doesnt even really matter anyways coz theres no relavance to it. id rather you remember about stull like the sage's name, flugel, which was said back in season 1 when subaru cut down the tree on top of the white whale, betelgeuse also said it when he took in the sloth witch factor coz evidently flugel was the guy who gave the witch factor to betelguese so that he safeguards it or uses it
Two funfacts! In episode 15 of season 1 when Betelguese killed Rem Betelguese says "This is the result of your actions. By doing nothing you practised sloth. And because of that, the girl is dead! You killed her! How awful! How awful! With my arm, with my fingers... You killed her." I like to believe he is talking to himself because he killed Mother Fortuna, just some neat forshadowing. Second fact is also a little forshadowing. In episode 21 of season 1 (i think) we see Emilia crying when finally killing the last finger of Betelgeuse. I just thought "Oh emilia is such a sweet and kind person" but with our knowledge of Betelgeuse being Emilias father figure it becomes kind of dark and depressing

Like, I don't know if they mean it in a literal sense, as in biological daughter of the Witch, or a spiritual daughter of the Witch, or some sort of reincarnation of the Witch, while the real Witch's soul is still stuck at the Sanctuary 🤷 The world of Re:zero is just full of theories, and I agree about the fact how it feels like the Witches themselves seem to know more than us or Subaru about their world?
"Which daughter" is used as an insult since Emilia looks like Satella, being an half-elf like her. Emilia is not Satella's daughter, that much is confirmed.
In case you missed what was said, Roswell does not know who Otto is. Roswell who has a book that tells the future. Because all the events that lead to Otto being here were caused by Subaru, a Foreign force in this world. So Otto was not even in the future Roswell saw, thus with him being there in front of him means Roswell's foretold future is wrong. It basically means Subaru beat Roswell just by proving the future Roswell was trying to make happen was already off course.
Emilia’s backstory was so sad, not because of her, but because you realized just how good a person Geuse was and how important he was to Emilia. The Fight scenes in that anime are totally Fire Meaning We probably wont see Re:Zero Season 3 until 2025 and its going to have its going to have Pretty Fire Animation
A lot of the stuff your comments are telling you is purely speculation that some people for some reason have decided is hard fact. You do you and speculate on everything as much as you want. It makes the show more enjoyable and it's kinda assholish of people to ruin that for you.
Now remember what Petelgeuse said in S1 ep15 ? "That is the result of your actions. By doing nothing, you practiced sloth. And because of that, the girl is dead ! You killed her ! With my arm, with my fingers... you... you... you... killed her." He's saying this while crying. It's like he's getting aware of what he did... Poor Geuse man...
And in fact it is one of the few scenes where he cries
I think there are also 2 points that foreshadow the connection between Petelgeuse and Emilia. In S1 EP23 when Petelgeuse sees Emilia he immediately starts shedding tears. And after Emila defeats Petelgeuse, Emila also sheds tears without knowing exactly why. Despite the madness, something in him recognizes Emila. Likewise with Emilia, something in her remembers Petelgeuse despite Pandora having erased (blocked) her memories.
Which makes the fight between the two more tragic and sad.

Because she's partially an elf, her physical body is similar to that of a 15 year old human when she woke up, and her mental age is around 18 at the current point in the story.
When she woke up she was physically 18. Her years lived are 15.
And mental age is somewhere between 15 and 18 in this season as her mind adapts rapidly. When she woke up she had lived 7 years and woke up in an 18 year physically body.

Something that was never revealed in the anime but only teased at the start of season 2 was that Geuse was Beatrice's manners teacher back when he was still the same man who was in Emilia's backstory. Echidna was the one who got him to be Beatrice's manners teacher. That's why Beatrice knew who Geuse was. His downfall into sanity and then finding out about his death sent a ripple through her heart as it was again one more person who she knew that died before her.
Pandora isn´t referring to Satella.. just "a witch". Emilia is a witchs daughter.. and we´ve already seen plenty. There´s a much better candidate already for who it could be.. and you might see. But we don´t know.. we do know that Emilia isn´t Satellas daughter. Good thing people warned you, because that would have been a huge misunderstanding.
Pandora is a character that is so easy to hate.
Her mannerisms, her actions, her warped and amoral view of things... but most importantly, it is how insidious she is.
The way she whispers in everybody's ear, twisting their perception as she twists reality with her Authority.
Truly, a hateful villainess. I'm sure that, when the time comes for us to find out why she is doing all this, even then we will still hate her guts.
That's the mark of a good villain, a true villain. One that is understandable, but utterly irredeemable. One who relishes in the use of their power as they impose their vision as the only acceptable truth regardless how wrong or twisted it is. One who pursues their goal with single-minded obsession, not caring about the means.

She is separate from all of the dead witches and also sealed Witch of Envy.
This is 100% trustworthy information (unless author disputes it in some arc, that isn't published yet, but that's unlikely).

Also, you'll soon see another entity of Witches' stature (not like the pesky bishops, but real one). Devil of Melancholy, who is basically representing Melancholy, but is male unlike witches (he isn't a bishop, but an actual origin). His name is Hector. Sometimes translated as Warlock of Melancholy too. So there's total of 9 Sin factors (not 7 like most of history in the Re Zero world remembers).

Some thoughts on that: it's not so simple anymore as it was ("Witch of Envy killed the other Witches, she's the most evil"). At least 2 other similar beings simingly weren't killed then (well, about Hector it's unclear, because we see him at the point 400 years ago (but it's clearly written in books, that 6 Witches were killed and consumed actually by the Witch), but Pandora is clearly alive and well 300 years after Witch of Envy's "rampage"). The plot thickens.

I haven't finished the video yet so idk if you already mentioned it 😅 But here's my sorta theory: Pandora removed herself from Emilia's memories before she froze, she likely (I don't know, could be a very wrong guess) did the same thing to Guese which means he basically just killed Fortuna which led to Emilia going into a rage and freezing the forest without Pandora being there. Instead he has to fill in the blanks of what happened, and he did that by blaming 'love' idk either way Guese's story is so messed up!

In Japanese, she doesn’t say “THE witch.” It’s simply, “a witch’s daughter.” It could be any witch. To go more in detail, though common articles “a / the” are not used in Japanese, if they did want to emphasize that Emilia was a certain witch’s daughter, i.e., the Witch of Envy, they would have said, “ano majo no musume” あの魔女の娘, or “THAT Witch’s daughter.” So don’t think that this word / translation choice was some clue to mean that Emilia was Satella’s daughter. (I don’t know either way as I haven’t read the novels… my theory is that Emilia is a certain teary-eyed witch’s daughter).

I really love the obvious symbolism of Pandora's name. Like how shes trying to open a door that if opened would essentially unleash unspeakable evil into the world or something. Just like a certain box, and shes Pandora. I also love how season 2, while vague, pretty much sets up the end game for Rezero, from Pandora and the door, to Satella stuff with Subaru. Also genuine question for anyone else during their first time watching these episodes, did anyone else think at some point Pandora would just turn her face towards the screen and start directly talking to Emilia and Echidna? Now that would be creepy.
also one of her last lines was "as sure as the snow melts and the ice thaws, we will meet again" which sets a time, location, and reason for meeting once more.

I'm not a light novel reader so I'm not sure but why would Pandora be frozen? Betelgeuse made it out of the forest alive when he's less stronger than Pandora. I think what Pandora meant is that they'll meet again when Emilia will be freed from the ice that's sealing her

From what I understood as an anime-only, Pandora can overwrite what is the truth. If she wills it, something will become the truth, or, "always have been" the truth. Sending Regulus away on the pretense of him "never having been there in the first place", leading to Geuse's arm "never having been chopped off". Erasing people's memories. Changing people's perception. Making herself not be dead (I'm still unsure how she does this _after_ her body gets disintegrated. My guess would be her body is either a double, not her "real" self, or she is able to set a "timer" for when her power should activate, even if it is shortly after her death).
I think her only weakness is that she can not interact with the world for her authority to work. Precisely why she could not force Emilia to open the seal.
I'm also an anime-only so i'm just theorizing but Pandora's powers are crazy. She sent Regulus away with the idea that he had "never been there in the first place" but Geuse still retained his sloth witch factor. This means either
1. The witch factors might be special or something cuz it affects the soul?
2. Pandora has absolute control over what gets rewritten (which is just broken , I don't see how she could ever lose ) 3. She's some sort of illusionist? which might make sense considering she's the witch of vanity
The most likely attribute of Pandora's power is that she can affect reality, but just a reality that is directly tied with herself.
She brought Regulus there and because of that Geuse's arm got blown off. After that she made it so she never actually brought Regulus and it that way he was teleported away and Geuse's arm was not chopped.
Pandora later affected what Geuse and Fortuna saw, because it was tyed to her own apparence.
She erased Emilia's memories which were tied to herself.
After you finish this season you should Watch a Video recapping all of the stuff thats been cut.
Because there has been *_A LOT_* of content that they had to cut to fit everything in this season.
A lot of things you've found confusing will make _a ton_ more sense after you learn about this cut content, *_Including Satella._*
Reminder, the history in re zero is convoluted at best. Stuff may not be exactly as we are told. For example, people still think it was Satella who made the mabeasts including the 3 great fiends, which we already know it's bullshit since it was Daphne who created them. You ever notice how none of the witches seem to hold a grudge towards Satella (besides Echidna), their supposed killer? Echidna even let some details about Sekhmet's death slip when she is first talking about the witches with Subaru. Sekhmet died while fighting the dragon Volcanica.
So yeah, don't go doubting any and every piece of historical info in re zero by any means, but do keep in mind, there is a 50% chance there is more to it.
And unless time is convoluted as well (which may be honestly, but this is merely speculation) none of the witches we know can be Emilia's mother. They all died at least 400 years in the past, while Emilia herself is a bit over 100.

This trial is not the modern era and Pandora herself is a witch so she knows about the other witches and will refer to them with the old rhetoric. Super important to remember that the past and the present have different ways of referring to things. For example in the present day they don't call authority users witches, they just call them archbishops. Functionally they are the exact same.
It's also worth mentioning that Re:zero loves it's word play and relationship dynamics. "Daughter" isn't always literal. Just as Puck refers to Emilia as his daughter, how Emilia refers to Fortuna as mother, or how Subaru refers to Ram as big sis. These familial terms are only to represent who would have claim to another on a close relationship level. So another way to translate "witches daughter" in this context is "someone treasured by a witch like a daughter".
There's also the matter of inheritance. Conceptually re:zero plays with that too. For example one could argue that the clones of Ryuzu meyer are the original's "daughters". The truth is you're not supposed to know what that "witches daughter" comment from Pandora is supposed to mean, because with the way Re:zero does things and speaks sentimentally, it can have any number of meanings.
Long long ago, I mean the reality world story. That has 8 deadly sin: Sloth, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Vanity, Melancholy. After some years, they see Vanity some kind of Pride, see Melancholy some kind of Sloth, so they delected that two sins and added a new sin, Envy. So, in this story, you will see all 9 of them, 8 witch and 1 evil.
Actually, I am more than sure there is more to Geuse's backstory, since he mentions "Flugel", who means a lot for Re:zero lore, and he is sorry to him for using witch factor, that means its yet to be explained

One detail that was omitted was that those "fairies" Emilia thought was helping her was actually Pandora the entire time. She had intentionally led her to the seal and was planning this all out from the very beginning. Also as you saw, the reason Geuse mistook Fortuna for Pandora was because Pandora used her authority to make him see them that way

Also for the witch factor thingy, I have a theory that whenever vanity gives people authorities, it's a corrupted form of the actual authority. Since the witches are all non-existent in the world, it could very well be that vanity went around gifting powers to people to amplify her influence. Also

witch factor when given to a contradictory personality, can actually corrupt the person- they basically become insane (like geuse) if they get the witch factor that doesn't *belong* to them.
i think that its when she does give them the title of it, that does something ominous. not specifically the witch gene, rather the name it was given. subaru doesnt have a name and he could pick authorities with no problem.

It really isn't like that, the more compatible a person is with their witch factor, the stronger it'll be or the more useful it'll be. The compatibility also takes two possible evolutions inside the person, one is the sinful path and the other is the virtuous path. At least that's how ReZero lore is understood nowadays.

it's not a confirmed theory but it is a popular one. However, it's been mostly debunked. The witch factors have no confirmed canon explanation as to why they're stronger in certain people. It might even just be luck. but having a witch factor can make you even stronger than the witch that had it first, like the case with regulus for example. That's regardless of what anyone else says really. Another thing is that having an authority or "witch factor" does not mean it will be the same as the previous users. For example, Subaru does not have unseen hand. It looks like unseen hand, but it is in fact different in several key ways, some of which have yet to be explained even now. Echidna's authority isn't explicitely known, but it is very different to regulus's authority. the list goes on.
The end speech of emilia this episode is just yet another indicator of how epic re:zero is
Think about Echidna's personality. Sanctuary isn't a prison, it's a containment laboratory. Just like her contract with Betty wasn't to make her suffer indefinitely, but an experiment to see if she'd ever make a decision on her own. There's a way out of the lab if qualified people volunteer as lab rats and pass her tests. That seems to be how all her deals are.

Okay, so I think the confusion with the true connection between Emilia and Satella/Witch of Envy is cause that the light novel the entire series is based on is still ongoing and the web novel that originally started it is apparently also still ongoing. For now, there's no actual answer to Emilia and Satella's connection but Emilia is sure she isn't the witch's daughter so that's what people would believe but the characters themselves might be dropping hints we're not sure of. No one's lying, no one just knows the right answer at the moment.
When people call her the "witch's daughter," I interpret it more like the witch's HEIR, someone who does not necessarily share a direct bloodline, but due to their similarities, might become the next witch. It has been said by the Witch's Cult that they wish to use Emilia as a vessel for the Witch of Envy, to essentially reincarnate her, and we've even seen recently that she CAN be possessed by the Witch, so maybe there's actually something there that justifies the belief.

You sure are right it got Dark. And I thought your worry about it being too happy a few episodes ago was definitely right that we knew something bad was going to happen. But this hits so hard in the heart especially her losing her mother figure who basically raised her. It is definitely one of the more brutal episodes especially for Emilia at such a young age to witness losing I would say the person she loved most. The moment he used the sloth witch factor, the battle for control started. They visualized it with the blood coming from his eyes etc pp.
This was not included in the anime but when Satella joined the tea party, everyone greeted her as Satella, not as the witch of envy.
It was elaborated upon that when Satella took in the witch factor of Envy, her personality got split in 2 as she was not compatible with the sin.
Satella, who we saw during the tea party who was caring for Subaru, not envious at all and the Witch of Envy who we saw every other time.

The witch factors are complicated you can be compatible with them while at the same time not.
Satella would be an example of that, she was a great vessel for her factor/authority which is one of the reasons she was so powerful, but her mind was not compatible so it broke her and create The Witch and Satella is the name that remains for what is left of her original being.
Geuse was neither a good vessel nor mentally compatible, which is why he is relatively week as a bishop.
The other witches were fairly compatible as vessel and mentally, which is why they are much more stable.
Now things get really complicated as there is more to being a witch than just having the witch factor/authority, since one of the bishops is also female, yet not a witch.
Another thing to consider is that the witches still seem to posses their powers, yet the bishops have their factors/authorities.
No, we're not effing you - first, even through Arc 8 (this is Arc 4) we still haven't been told who Emilia's mother is. But it's basic genealogy (I think that's the right term?) - If we know Emilia is half-elf, and we know Emilia's father was full elf, and we know Satella is half elf... Satella cannot be Emilia's mother because that would make Emilia 75% elf and 25% human... and that would mean Emilia would be able to escape the Sanctuary, not being half human and half something else - but we've been told Emilia is currently trapped in the sanctuary because she's half human and half elf.
That being said - it would be fairly easy for Emilia to be the "witch's daughter" without her being Satella's daughter, because there are at least 6 other witches, and there's a very prominent fan theory (one I personally subscribe to) as to which one actually is Emilia's mother - and it's not Satella.
didnt you notice?? pandora called emilia the witch's daughter but didnt even know who her mother was..... fortuna has to tell pandora that her sister in law was emilia's daughter, so obviously the saying "witches daughter" doesnt mean so in the literal sense, theres more to it than meets the eye.
re zero has much much more story and plot to cover so emilia's real mohter might be something even bigger than just being any of the witches
also important callback to season 1, when betelgeuse twisted rem's arms, legs and head in the cave when she came to rescue subaru, he said the same words as we see now when fortuna died.... ""with your own hands you killed her"" etc etc , the foreshadowings in the anime are insane
The thing with this show is that so far no one really has the answers to any of the big questions because the story is as yet incomplete and none of the big answers have been revealed yet. There is just a swarming hive of questions and theories. There are shorter term answers about upcoming events and arcs but the big questions are all unanswered and everyone has their own guesses.
Why and how was Subaru brought here, what is his connection to Satella?
What happened 400 years ago with Satella/WoE and her sealing?
What is Emelia’s connection to events, who are her parents, what is the seal, what is Pandora after?
What is Puck’s real connection to Emelia?
Where is the story going?
Will Subaru ever see his parents again.
Just what the heck is going on???
Look at it this way: if the Witches were the Gotei 13, the Witch of Vanity/Vainglory is the Aizen of the bunch. She went rogue and weirdly enough, nobody seems to talk about her all that much in the ReZero world, much like the other character still about to show up.
There are several details that are easy to overlook in this chapter but are important. for example the fact that Roswal knew nothing about Otto despite having a book that literally tells him the future. so Roswal knows that Subaru's power exceeds anything he knows. or like the fact that they called Emilia the daughter of a witch as well as that Fortuna said that her sister-in-law would be upset with her. Anger is a sin..!
As I said in the last episode already. Satella, the witch of envy, can't be the mother of Emilia. They are both half-elf, and that's already where the problem lies. Since there are no other half-elves except Emilia and Satella, the mixed race must be human and elf. So, if Satella were to be her mother, Emilia wouldn't be half-elf. She would be quarter-elf or quarter-human. Because the blood ration would be 1:2 and not 1:1.
Anyway, hope this might help you with your theory a bit.

@@DraKeNgg. Well, there is not much to be lying about. We know the mother is someone with kind eyes, probably human. The father has silver hair and is probably an elf. These two would result in what we know as Emilia. So it's just a logical conclusion. If they're all saying "witches-daughter", then that might mean that Emilia is the daughter of a witch, which could be wrong, there's no denying that. However, after all is said and done, the mother and father must be human + elf. There's no half-elf in there like Satella. So it already rules her out as a candidate.
Well lets just say, don't count your chickens before they hatch. What if there are possibilities you aren't considering? Its tappei afterall
@@TheNoGamer44again I think you are simplifying it too much, what if Emilia isn't born in a normal way? What if she's born in an experimental lab. Heck for all we could know, satella could have used Echidnas influence to create Emilia , indirectly she could be the "witchs daughter". We cannot be sure just yet until the author confirms it himself.
@@ketchumuu These are all plausible possibilities. But the more complex the solution becomes, the more possible plotholes might occur. It's happening a lot in complex story writing. I have faith in Tappei, that he will come up with a conclusion that will satisfy the past interactions.
Edit: Important side-note - With the information we currently have, the possibility for Satella to be her mother has been ruled out, if the way she was born would be normal. That's fact. Any other roundabout way of birth has never been mentioned in the Anime to this episode. There might be speculations about time-travel, lab experiments, spirit birth, etc., but there is not enough evidence supporting these. So I'm going with the most obvious solution so far - if facts change or if something comes up to being wrong, then this will change my view instantly.

luke i think you need to understand the timing of events in re zero, 400 years ago, the witchs all died and satella was sealed up, 114 years ago, emilia was born while satella was still sealed, and then she froze herself along with the forest when she was 7 years old. her parents do have a role since pandora did something to them, possibly killed them according to fortuna, but thats upto speculations, anyways emilia being the witch's daughter or any of the witch's daughter doesnt even really matter anyways coz theres no relavance to it. id rather you remember about stull like the sage's name, flugel, which was said back in season 1 when subaru cut down the tree on top of the white whale, betelgeuse also said it when he took in the sloth witch factor coz evidently flugel was the guy who gave the witch factor to betelguese so that he safeguards it or uses it
pandora could also be the reason the white whale disappeared suddenly in season 1

In episode 21 of season 1 (i think) we see Emilia crying when finally killing the last finger of Betelgeuse. I just thought "Oh emilia is such a sweet and kind person" but with our knowledge of Betelgeuse being Emilias father figure it becomes kind of dark and depressing

14:35 I don't know for sure, but this is my guess ... the powers of pandora seems to "change the reality based on the things that she say or think" so as she said "you just have misstook what you saw", that way the reality is setted to him hiting her for accident
3:17 the emilia being half human half elf isnt a face value thing she was affected by teh barrier which only reacts to half bloods (also the author confirmed in a interview but thats a meta hindsight thing)
The whole Witch's Daughter thing confuses me too. Like, I don't know if they mean it in a literal sense, as in biological daughter of the Witch, or a spiritual daughter of the Witch, or some sort of reincarnation of the Witch, while the real Witch's soul is still stuck at the Sanctuary 🤷

"Which daughter" is used as an insult since Emilia looks like Satella, being an half-elf like her. Emilia is not Satella's daughter, that much is confirmed.

In case you missed what was said, Roswell does not know who Otto is. Roswell who has a book that tells the future.
Because all the events that lead to Otto being here were caused by Subaru, a Foreign force in this world.
So Otto was not even in the future Roswell saw, thus with him being there in front of him means Roswell's foretold future is wrong.
It basically means Subaru beat Roswell just by proving the future Roswell was trying to make happen was already off course.
