    Thank you for clearing that up clearly and simply, Jake. Love the term "permit", suggestive of "permission" so one must apply for permission to collect taxes for a state - possibly one the collector never has and never will set foot in. (Pardon my curmudgeon's aspect.)

Ex. Price of product $11 >> checkout $11.66 total after taxes? And how do I find out how much I should be adding taxes for a product ? If the product is $11 total how much would I add the taxes to be 6% or? Is there any way that can be calculated

      @mattbreezyfile Před 8 měsíci

      So if you have a physical presence in OH such as inventory or an employee (you in this case), you are technically supposed to register and collect sales tax in OH. The thresholds are only for states in which you do not have a physical presence.

    this is an awesome video, thank you! One thing I'm still confused about: so if I have Shopify Tax set up (the automatic plan you highlight in this video), how does that work with reporting taxes to states? For example, I still have to report my sales to the state of California every year so they can calculate my sales tax liability. Has Spotify already technically submitted this tax liability to the state? (I have a tax ID in CA and everything). It's just not clear to me if Shopify has already paid the state, or if it's simply collecting the tax rate from my customers for me to then pay the state on my own..... any thoughts there?

    • @CasualEcommerce
      @CasualEcommerce  Před rokem +5

      Shopify doesn't file any tax forms for you. It's just collecting all of the taxes you need to help you be compliant. You still have to file and pay the taxes yourself.

    hello there, thanks for the video. I have a quick question: I recently created a online store to sell my product, shopify helped me to create my website. I am currently in north caorlina, i dont have any other warehouse for any other state, i followed your step to apply for a tax ID for NC, and I only put NC in the regions/states i am collecting sales tax. But when i do some testing, a customer from california who try to purchase my product does not pay any sales tax at all, is this legit? What should i do with other states? Because there is going to be customers from all over the US. Do I just put NC as the only region to collect sales tax until the revenue or sales from other states exceed their limit?
