All I can think initially watching this is "eeekkk!!! Electricity from all those machines and all that water that everyone's walking in!!!" A friend of mine was stuck there this evening. He'd said earlier that there was water coming through the toilet ceiling in the domestic terminal and that the carpark was completely flooded. This video gives a very clear idea of how bad it's been down there.
Surface catchment, then channelled into inadequate run offs. So even the natural process of water soaking into soils to alleviate some of the run off can't occur. High tide, waterway levels etc are factors too. Vortexes have long been used in hydrology where dog leg bends at the end of flows is to create a vortex to help suck the water into overflowing rivers where previously water couldn't flow out so would back log back up water channels
Auckland airport should have had a evacuation team in this situation...important that they keep customers safe from disaster....Auckland has a lot to learn about these disaster...sack there emergency response team🤦♀️
