I love these cooking demonstrations. There's no faffing, no fancy words, no pretentiousness, just good recipes and excellent food. Thank you. I'm a new follower xxx
That's the point, you are a home cook and that is what most people like to see. Dishes made simple with step by step instructions that we can all understand and make ourselves. @@thedinnerlady9180
Wow, Sorry I am a Mackem, but at 77 and alone, I now cook for mysellf, My latest success was your Bacon and Egg pie , minus the top like my Mam used to bake it Thank you for your excellent instructions
Omg, that looks delicious and I can’t wait to try it ! How much flour and butter did you use to do the thickening please? New subscriber- even though we are on a diet.😂
Older than you by two years Jack and love these recipes that are so easy to follow. No messing about just simple and easy to follow instructions. Dinner Lady is fast becoming a legend.
Love it, will definitely be making this. Never done hot water pastry, but will give it a go!! Thank you for your videos. Look forward to your next ones.
Tip: Just add about half of the jam required before baking the tarts, so that it doesn’t boil over. Add the rest as soon as the tarts come out of the oven so that the jam melts together. The pie and the tarts look heavenly. Thank-you for another great video xx
IT’s exactly how John kirkwood does his pastry ..he has a great youtube channel..very talented old school cook who has his own cookbooks…it’s what the dinner lady needs to aim for..north east cooking books..keep up good work..👍
100% bring back northern cooking for the masses! Teach all these idiots there’s way more to it than just Yorkshire puddings 😂 Old school family meals that are big enough to do a tea and lunch the next day!
This is my second video of yours, the first was the egg and bacon pie. Cos I’m on my own I don’t cook a great deal for me but OMG!! Its been a very long time since I’ve made an egg and bacon pie or a steak pie. I’ve decided that I’ll make both but make individual pies cos my mouth is watering right now. I always used to make different things with the left over pastry also so I’ll be doing that as well. Thank you so much for your beautiful home cooked food. I used to love cooking. I find it very difficult standing up at the bench in the afternoon due to my chronic pain so I’m going to cook in the morning and just reheat it before I want to eat. I can get my vegies ready, prepped, waiting to be cooked and I may start eating properly again after watching your videos. Thank you, thank you, thank you. OMG!!!!! Im so hungry after watching this video lol.
Another classic like I mentioned on your jam rolly polly pure old school classics we had massive steak pies cooked in 2 foot by 1 foot alloy trays and cut into squares served with chips and gravy and the same with the puddings 🍮 and yes we to had the lemon curd tart yum yum 👍👍
Such a beautiful presentation, cozy and homey. Him sitting there enjoying it, I'm loving it. It all looks so good! Oh! BTW years ago a girl at work made jam tarts and she had mixed coconut in the jam and always wanted to try it now I will.
My grandparents were English and I grew up next door but one to them and I love the way my Grandad cooked. He made a Steak and Guinness pie that I can still smell to this day. I love to see you cook the good old-fashioned meals of my childhood. He also made what he called a "spotted d....k", don't mean to be crude but that is what he called it. It was a pudding he cooked in a sausage shape in a pudding cloth and poured custard over it when it was cooked. I think he put sultanas or raisins or maybe even current in to make the spots. By the way..being from Newcastle in Australia I was so pleased to see you using the Newcastle ale. We are about miles north of Sydney, we always say that the best part of Sydney is the road going to Newcastle, so much quieter here. Keep on being you, authentic and real.
You are right that pudding your grandad made IS called a spotted dick., don't know why but it is. Elderly cockney lady here so take it from me. 🤗🏴
New subscriber here I had every faith in the pastry fitting the tin lol absolutely down to earth wholesome food and I will definitely be trying every recipe thank you so much for your skills and guides all the best god bless
I made this last week, it was amazing. The pastry was amazing 🤩 To make sure the base of the pie was cooked, I heated a tray in the oven first and then put the pie dish on that. It base came out lovely and crispy. Thank you for you videos 😊
I’ve never made hot water pastry but can’t wait to try. I love how you speak of your mother’s teaching! I was 10 when my mom introduced me to the bread pan. We were a family of 10 kids. Today i still use the same recipe! We are seniors now and I still make 8 loaves. I love learning from you even though you are far younger!!
Fantastic homemade food looking homemade, and that's how it should look too. That bit of effort made is worth every minute. Real food for real people. Nice!

I sometimes put coconut on top of my jam tarts. I prefer fresĥ coconut but its such a faff breaking up a fresh coconut and grating it down. But......whenever i watched the American Barefoot Contessa on Food Network, i got coconut envy. She used beautiful shredded moist coconut and then i found online, the American Foodstore which is here.in London, near t Ladbroke Grove. As that's West London and Im North London, i order a couple of bags of their coconut online. Lasts absolutely ages in the fridge. I also order ready made gram cracker pie bases for pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie or lemon meringue pie. Yummy in my tummy. Uk dessicated coconut so dry. Thank you for sharing your family based recipes. I really love to watch unpretentious baking and not once do i hear you say that youve been to the woods to forage for mushrooms or dandelions 😅😅😅😅 .
