In an interview with Elton John(!!!!!), Chappell said she wrote pink pony club after going to a gay bar, having some kind of spiritual experience being there, and being enamoured with the go-go dancers.

Pink Pony Club was inspired after Chappell went to her first gay bar in West Hollywood and saw the gogo dancers. It’s supposed to be like an anthem for the lgbt+ community. Also, she’s from Missouri, she just said Tennessee in that song bc it sounded better. lol
it's sooo funny to me how you can tell whether someone is connected to queer culture by how they react to pink pony club, i also fully sob every single time and it's so good

Hah, YES, I'd say "snarky" is a fantastic descriptor for a lot of Chappell's writing! Still human, still emotional, still a bop - but with this prickly, campy, almost jokey twist that brings it all together in such a unique and satisfying way. SO happy you've finally started discovering her music! :)

My great love since I was a teenager and I never had a song that fit our experiences together, but this one, over the decades it connected all our loves of each other and how they changed and how it was beautiful and strange and every day...
It's the most mature love song I've ever heard! The one love song that doesn't make you feel like you grew out of it, or can't relate anymore

I literally cry when I hear good luck babe and pink pony club (I told you so and girls and boys can be queens) just melt me. I saw her live in concert and she blew the roof off, my voice is raw from yelling, she speaks out loud in her show that everyone is welcome, no matter who or where they are. She says she wishes she had this community when she was 14. She is lightning in a bottle live, such an amazing voice. I cried at her concert, if you follow her story her dreams were crushed, youtube singles at 14, got a label and dropped in like a month. Had to rebuild and work odd jobs. All signs points towards a flop, but she persevered when I would not have, and now she is huge with a diehard fan base.
i think the reference of her mom calling her a “pink pony girl” is that there’s a club in Tennessee back home where her mom is called The Pony and it’s aesthetics are hot pink. so basically her mom is saying “what have you done? you’re a literal stripper now”

I don't think I've randomly been hit with an artists music quite like Chappell Roan. I've never added so many songs to my spotify from one album/artist before. Finding six songs I fall in love with enough to listen to them on repeat is WILD for me. Can't wait to see what her future holds in store.
My favorite of hers is Guilty Pleasure (which is also her own favorite from her album) but she doesn't really perform it live anymore cuz it's so demanding. Check it out!

Aaaand now that I've actually watched the video, hell yes I've had similar reactions to her (including getting very flustered by how forthright she is lol) but I'd highly recommend the song Casual! It's another tearjerker but the MV is a MASTERPIECE.
