Although we are from different islands with different accents, we sound a lot alike.My daughter, a SLP, can help her with her accent reduction; not to lose the accent, but it won't be as thick. All of us from the islands have the same issue. We want to hold on to our accent, but we hate when US folks continuously ask "What did you say" or "Huh?" Americans have accents too. Living in the south, it's difficult.
