  • In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

When Katie started speaking about manipulation through rhetoric I thought she would speak about the age old ethos, pathos and logos but she spoke instead about Euphemism, Jargon and inflated language. Katie's speech is impressive.

There are times in which even Ted talks feel this way about social issues.

I admire that other young people like myself are interested in topics like these but seriousely? Jargon such as "abstain" is deceptive? Now just becasue i understood all of that doesnt mean that everyone will and im not saying that im amazing in any way, but deception is not the same as professionalism. Your medical prescription and advertising are two completely different things eventhough both can implement words that confuse you. In the case of your doctor, its just the lack of knowledge on your side, in the case of a car salesman its deception.

Who writes the speeches of all these young people talking at TED? No, seriously, somebody tell me! Because they always come across as wise and knowledgeable about stuff. Like, how can she even know from personal experience that media frequently uses language as a manupulation tool when she's only 16? Did she carry out long lasting studies on media? Don't get me wrong, mainstream media is a piece of crap and I try not to be jealous because she's admittedly quite smart and does a quite entertaining job in front of a life audience while I am just some bloke commenting on youtube. But still, why is she all sapient about the topic of deception in media?
