In my opinion Misa is smarter then most people give her credit for... *But* there's two things that hamper her; one is she can't keep her emotions in check when it involves Light/Kira and two is even someone with an above average intelligence looks like an *idiot* next to the intellectual titans of Light and L. If she could just *control herself for longer then five minutes* she would be a force to be reckoned with. On another note; I do enjoy your analysis in this series so far as well as how often you respond, even to older episodes of this series. More over I respect how you look through the comments and when someone brings up a good point you acknowledge it, more so when they have a correction to one of your points. Earned a sub.
This episode does show that the chief even though he's not on the level of Light or L, he still figured out that "Kira" was able to kill people without knowing their name. The detail of him putting the towel on his head neat.
Definitely not on the same level as Light or L - but damnit if he doesn't bring something to the table. Both in regard to his intelligence (as you described) but also his leadership (his men respect the hell out of him). I really admire the dude.
Just wanted to say, in the Manga, an ambulance does come by to pick Ukita's body up before the Chief rams the vehicle into the tv station's doors. Apparently Misa was kind enough not to murder the ambulance workers as they did that.
"professionals have standards" or something like that. She probably didn't see paramedics as a threat to herself or Light, as they're just cleaning up a crime scene, not trying to confront her.
Imagine if the death note had determined that it's physically impossible for her to have killed herself at a location where nobody will ever find her - and thus had her die of a heart attack right in front of Light. With Aizawa being like 20 steps away.
Omg that comment about Light's finger prints being on her driver's license is such a game changer. I didn't realize this on my multiple rewatches of this show. I kinda wish that fact helped lead to Light being discovered as being Kira.

On the subject of Naomi Misora's suicide, her forensic knowledge *would* have made her disturbingly aware of not just how to hide the site of her suicide, but also how to prevent herself from being identified if found. The fanfiction "Silent Partner, Unfinished Business" (which is just an all-around fantastic story that I recommend everyone read) actually envisions how this might have played out in some pretty graphic detail. (Also, in that story she survives.)
12:40 - The police would have alerted any nearby cops to the situation over the radio, more than likely, so the assumption that the cop who pulled up to the Sakura TV building did so on purpose is a pretty sound one.
17:00 - They ultimately had to play the message tape at the end because if they didn't, there was a good chance that the Director General would be murdered outright. Putting out the message buys a bit of time, at the very least.
19:00 - Oh, this is interesting, actually. In the manga they don't spend MUCH more time on this than the anime, and details about it are spread out across the series, but it's made a little more clear that Light is discerning in who he kills and why. Besides Lind L. Taylor, the FBI agents, and Naomi Misora, he strictly kills criminals that he judges to deserve it. Which is to say, Light Yagami actually intentionally spares criminals whose motive he judges to be worthy of forgiveness. The anime never mentions this, but it's brought up as a difference in the M.O. between the first Kira and the others (all of whom target criminals with a different "emphasis," if that makes sense), and it's also a point on which Light differs with Mikami during the second half of the series, until he's able to establish contact through Takeda and "correct" Mikami about which criminals to kill. So. Yeah. Not really a vital detail to the story making sense, but an interesting one.
20:00 - At this point the ICPO is just being chickenshit. Their immediate worry in this situation would be that Kira would start killing known members of law enforcement or the government if they don't fold. It's a valid fear, in a way. Every major politician, most minor ones, and the higher-ups in any law enforcement agency could theoretically be identified and killed by a Death Note user.

It's not exactly relevant to this video, but back when Light was talking with the fiance of the fbi agent in police station, not only didn't the receptionists notify any higher-ups from the station, nor did any security cameras existed within the buildings hall, nor outside. Which is very very stupid, but That's literally the only 2 things that saved Light from being 90% more suspicious
So, in the manga there are actually security cameras - and Light has to be strategic about where he stands. But that's something they removed from the anime. However, I don't know what excuse those receptionists could have. You have, like, one fucking job, guys. Lol. I guess maybe they thought she was full of it? Idk. It is weird, though - and I appreciate you calling that out!
It seems as if they actually didn't care about investigating a death of Naomi. Maybe there's a reason but was it so difficult to check where she was a time around her death. Come on, there must be some fly ticket or phone call or something which would lead them to the point when she was about to tell L about her findings but it was just mentioned and kind of ignored. Really? Nothing now. After all L remembered her and cared or he just didn't. But ok just go on
I said this in the last episode but L's reaction to ukita dying shows to me that he may not show it but he genuinely does care about them all, even matsuda. I mean it's inevitable when you spend so much time with someone, unless their awful of course you're gonna end up respecting them or at least like them a little bit. I like the snippets of humanity we see in his normally closed of facade.
0:35 she is still canonically missing at the end of the series and that just. that fact made me hate Light so much more, Naomi is amazing and as someone who read the Los Angeles BB Murder Case quite recently and learnt her body is canonically missing at the end of the series right after reading it???? welcome to episode one of "how the hell does light dig himself out of all those pits misa digs for him" seriously, misas stunt has seriously hampered lights plans and image as kira in so many different ways and it will end up getting him the closest to being caught ever (before he actually gets caught that is, but in some ways that is also misas fault) and throughout all of this, despite having shinigami eyes and getting them a second time later, misa turns out to be impressively useless for kiras cause until he had essentially already won. and even then she doesnt do anything that a more "qualified" follower of Kira couldnt do a way better job at. misa is the textbook example of trying to help but making it so much worse by being incompetent.

As others have said, I'm loving this series just as much as I did rewatching Death Note those weeks ago. You seem like a very cool person; it's awesome to see your thoughts in the comments and ruminations as we go through the episodes. Not to mention, I love the funny cuts you make! You referring to Kira² as Kira for most of this video was interesting because, while my first and only other time watching the show was like 10 years ago, I still knew the big reveal and failed to imagine this as the original Kira on my rewatch, which would have made this episode as surprising in its turns with Kira²'s actions as you described it. Also, just in general: I know this is the whole theme behind the channel anyway, but I really appreciate how smart you are. Sometimes you'll point out things I didn't consider, and it makes me think I wasn't thinking enough during my rewatch. As though I was focusing too much on enjoyment and not trying to match the bar that this anime for thinkers has set.

But yeah, I've seen this show... a lot. Probably like, half a dozen times (honestly, probably more than that lol) and I feel like I discover new stuff every single time. Especially this run through because I'm *looking* for it. So, it's not really so much intelligence, but more so me watching and stopping the show a lot to think about what was said. If anyone was with me while I was writing the scripts they'd probably be hella annoyed with how much I have to pause the show and let whatever just happened ruminate in my head. Lol.
I'd like to point out the timing of the tapes. These tapes were just sent after L introduced himself to Light. From the contents of the tape, Kira asking for the Director or L to appear on television seems strange as there's no way for Kira to be sure that if the L that appears on television is the real one or not, unless Kira already knows what L looks like. The timing of these tapes while technically would lead to nothing because of who we know actually sent them, should actually make Light look more suspicious here. Why would Kira ask the real L to appear on television if they have no idea what L looks like unless they do know what L looks like, which Light does and right after he got confirmation of who L was. Asking L to appear on television could be a diversion to increase the number of possibilities of who potentially could be Kira, which is why Kira is confident here that they'd be sure who the real L that appeared is but made to look as if Kira isn't close to L at all. Unfortunately it would just turn out that this Kira just didn't think this through much at all and it was all just a coincidence but it's something interesting to note in my opinion. Now that they think there is a second Kira, this opens up all different kinds of possibilities. It could lead the investigation team to reconsider if the past instances revolving around Kira are connected or not. As you pointed out, killing Lind L. Tailor was unnecessary which aligns more with the actions of the second Kira. Were there always two Kira's or is this second one just showing themselves now? Having two Kira's makes it harder to connect which events lead to which Kira. I'd also like to point out that going along with Kira here is a bad choice no matter who they picked to appear on television. I think the assumption was that having L appear would be better as he is the main concern Kira is facing whereas if the Director were to appear, Kira would kill them and then move onto the next person, asking the same question, so and so or L, until Kira finally got L to appear which is probably why they just went with L appearing instead. This is somewhat similar to what happened in the Dark Knight movie. Joker asks Batman to reveal his true identity or he will continue to kill people.
Love these videos! Good catch on the body missing, lol Misa is interesting, she's more powerful because of the eyes but also less powerful because she doesn't know the full extent the death note can manipulate people (unlike Light she doesn't have access to police records to run experiments on criminals) which is probably why she doesn't have a dead-man-walking send the tapes for her from across the globe
now that i think about it, does the death note have a maximum time limit for how long to wait to kill someone? makes me wonder if you could get the shinigami eyes, and sentence someone to death up until the day before they die, and with it command them to live a fulfilling life without intentions of hurting others. if that was possible, wouldn't that be a better sentence for criminals? i mean you can argue they dont deserve fulfilling lives depending on their crimes, but wouldnt it be better if they became contributing members of society and helped make the world a better place, rather than have them sit in a cell accomplishing nothing for anyone? Assuming you can cancel a death note command before its carried out, then if the note gets destroyed or the user dies, that criminal may still remain a reformed person just due to their improved living conditions and not wanting to ruin all the good theyve done for others. depending on how long theyve spent under the death note's command of course. and im not forgetting the elephant in the room. Detailing such a command for every name you write down would be a fucking nightmare. still an interesting idea though I'd say. if someone were devoted to it as much as Light was with his killing sprees, then even just a fraction of the names he writes down in a session would be a fairly significant amount of people. "Kira's image" is the key phrase in this imo because Light got hoed by L yes, and he made mistakes between L and himself BUT Lind L Taylor was his only PUBLIC Disgrace. It also proved Kira was a person before this

Man, L is such a hard character to analyze because I don't think he is ever nervous or angry or sad, but is in fact faking it in order to get what he wants. So in this situation the rules in which he has set out for how they should act based on what's considered safe has been altered. I don't think L really cared about the death of Ukita (or however it's spelled) based on his "feelings" towards him, but only showed emotion in order to convince the others that he actually cares about him so they would listen to him and wouldn't just go out and die before their usefulness is not needed anymore. I always view L through the lens of everything he does is mulipulative and is only for selfish reasons in order to win. NOT for justice or saving lives, but to win this phycological battle vs Kira.

@@overanalyzinganime I'm pretty sure the Author stated that L "is evil, but not as much as Light". All he wants is to "win" this battle of wits just like Light. Light doesn't really care about "creating a new world" and L doesn't care about "justice prevailing" they both just want to win and literally don't care about anything else. A good spot in the story which you haven't reach with your videos yet is when they bugged Yotsuba and learned they were going to kill X, Y, and Z people. Light (memory loss) and his father (who is defined by the Author I believe as the only "good" or justice driven person) want to act in order to prevent the deaths of the "innocent people" even if it risked letting Kira slip through their grasp.While L literally would've let them die in order to prove Kira was among them so he could win this ego driven battle of wits.

Not taking the manga into account, I do see Misa being okay with an ambulance coming in to take the body. She only killed Ukita after it was obvious that he wasn't going to leave and was pulling out his gun to shoot the glass. As long as the medics didn't try to open the door she'd be fine with them coming in to get the body.
22:26 Just wanted to mention that Takeshita Street, which is in Tokyo, is not far from the Kanto Region because it's actually already located within the Kanto Region. It's just the way that Google Maps works that they still give you directions to the "Kanto Region".

The scene at the very beginning isn't just "Light is in his room" It's also the beginning of the answer to the cliffhanger from the previous episode. Werent meant to believe that Light is the source of the tapes, and it's a great moment for the audience to be left thinking to themselves
I imagine L aired the tapes to make the most of the situation. He probably thought it was the optimal play given the circumstances. 1. He probably caught on quickly that it had been a different Kira, given the profile he built over the actual one and how the broadcast had Kira using dense and vague words like "I hate evil, and love justice." That's a terrible first impression, the First Kira would never go for that. Also of course, Ukita died without having revealed his name, and the fact he was killed the way he did. Imagine if Kira controlled Ukita and made him show his ID to the officer before he died, that would've been more of a First Kira play. As is, it looked like a play of overconfidence or a Chess blunder where he accidentally showed he only needs a face. Anyway, in airing the broadcast, L provokes the First Kira into hasty and drastic measures, which he wanted and couldn't get from the 1500 investigators thing. 2. Kira looks incompetent now, and like you said, human. He seems limited, like someone who can be outplayed. This is absolutely something you want announced to the world if you're L. 3. Kira looks limited, having threatened the life of L or the deputy director. Goes to show that he cannot yet kill L. Also, he had only asked for them to appear, not wanting their name. This is probably something he knew the First Kira would catch onto. 4. L looks indispensable. Being someone who hadn't revealed his name, he's the only one equipped to challenge Kira. The world has databases and all that, it was built for Kira's reign. By the way.. I don't know why this whole plot line was dropped. L could’ve agreed to appear on TV, potentially faked his death again as he did with Lind L. Tailor and continued the investigation in secret. Or L couldve just told Kira "it doesn't have to be me so your play is shit" If Kira continued to make the public question Ls life over another person, eventually people would side with Kira to stop the senseless murders. Or at least, they would urge L to stop chasing Kira. And I imagine they chose L to appear on TV just to stop those ultimatums before they became a trend. Kira could play that card endlessly.

I saw you posted on today's video and it reminded me that I never responded to this comment - even though I really wanted to. In regard to making your own channel - do it! I too was skeptical about doing these - especially considering I have a whole other channel filled with some pretty low quality content (at least in comparison to what I'm doing now). I've always been self conscious about my voice because I used to get picked on for "sounding like I had a dick in my mouth." (Kids can be assholes). But, yeah. If you're nervous about the quality of your videos - well, I'll be straight up in saying that my videos may be pretty good now - but they weren't always like this. It took time. I have a whole other channel that's filled with pretty garbage videos, tbh (not anime related content, though). So, I say go for it, Rainy! If it's something you really wanna do, there's no harm in trying - I mean, you'll never really know until you try! Also, thanks for the kind words about the video!
When perusing distances in japan, Public transit rationale paints a clearer picture than driving time. Kanto - Osaka is a local train, HSR, Local train swap that takes 12 hours. you can grab a bed compartment for the middle part and sleep through it, only requiring you to be awake for maybe 3 hours of the total thing. Tochigi - Shinjuku is a 3 local train swap that only takes 1 hour 45 to complete, most of which you are chilling in metros and watching death note. when concidered as thus, you realize why it didnt seem like a big deal to Amane's friend. they arrived at tokyo on saturday morning, recorded whatever, and fucked off with the tapes that night, and where back home sunday morning, and just slept on the train. As for Light it was piss easy to check the maps and walk to the tochigi station, board the train, do the 3 swaps, and get off at shinjiku, and stroll the rest of the way.
Thank-you for the additional insight! Using drive times probably wasn’t the best idea - I think I was just viewing it through the lens of an American, because I don’t know many people who use trains for casual travel - people are typically driving or flying.

So, interestingly enough - in watching Episode 13, Misa is actually pretty smart. Her issue is that she’s ridiculously impulsive, and that makes her look kinda stupid. But the way she implemented her plans in Episode 13… I mean, there’s a reason that my thumbnail for that answer is going to be “I WAS WRONG.” Lol. Because I definitely ripped into her in my script for Episode 12 and it’s already mostly finished so I can’t go back and edit it before I drop it on Tuesday. Lol. But, yeah.

I didn’t think about it like that. You’re right before the broadcasts Kira could’ve been some specter or supernatural entity or even deity. But the broadcasting on a trashy tv station is very wannabe celebrity. Kira was more frightening as an abstract concept. Now they for sure know Kira is a person and one that can make mistakes and be stopped
i never thought about it before but she possibly could have throw herself into the ocean or found a way to burn her body to ashes without anyone finding out? not sure of the amount of time it took her to find a good place conflicts with the time rules
I can actually see more people supporting kira than people hating them. I think without knowing what i know as a viewer, I would support kira to. I think anyone who is a victim of a serious crime would be, which is a lot of people. Then you have all the people who are in awful situations like poverty, abusive situations etc I think that would push a lot of people into supporting kira, just like how people can turn to religion when things in their life goes wrong or they're in a shitty situation.
A thought on Naomi Misora. The details about her death are not that "she will choose a location where her body won't be found" rather it says "and her body will not be discovered." Does the manner in which that is written alter reality in some fashion, versus simply making her choose a remote spot at which to commit the act?
In regards to the writing instrument rule: could you use invisible ink? So long as you hold a black light over it until the victim is dead? Not that this has much practical application, I’m just curious if it’d work.
Year old video, maybe you've made this change already but I would reccomend not feigning ignorance of the situation due to it not being reveled yet within the episode even though you as the reviewer clearly know the truth. Analysing this episode knowing who Misa is and contrasting all of the differences in her modus operandi as compared to Light would have in my opinion made for slightly more compelling content then the feigned confusion you ended up going for. Still a great video!
The public knew Kira is human when Light k1lled Lind but failed to K1II L. If Kira was some diety, L would have d13d that day, but he didn't confirming Kira is human and emotional.

About Naomi suicide, you're not far off when you said she should know how to do it better than most people since she was an FBI agent In the manga, Light says that she seems quite intelligent, so he wrote on the Death Note that she should use her brain to the fullest to kill herself in a way that no one would find her body. The thought has crossed my mind, but it just seems kind of unfair of me to ask y'all for money without providing anything extra. Because it's not necessarily money that's the issue with me - I actually have a really good job currently - it's just that it takes up a lot of time right now, which is part of the reason I couldn't post this week (though, I will be putting out two videos next week!) To your point at 17:49, it's not only (paraphrasing) "what are the odds that a 2nd notebook is in the world and was picked up by someone who loves Kira?" At least thousands of people are down with Kira at this stage. Even millions being down with him would represent a small percentage of the planet. It's "what are the odds that a second notebook exists and was picked up by a human that fits the following criteria: A. Parents were murdered B. Murderer of said parents was captured and found guilty, but underpunished, and C. Was "lucky" enough to have said murderer be in turn murdered by Kira. That's gotta be a pretty narrow field. And it's not the sort of plot convenience that is justified in a "the force often creates such coincidences" sort of a way. The Shinigami are just some random, bored ass beings doing stuff for poops and laughs. I love Death Note, but it routinely asks for some major suspension of disbelief
that's a good question. there's a rule that specifically states that a persons whose name is written cannot effect other people lives, so, maybe it would force the pilot to land safely before then dying of a heart attack?
The "World's Greatest Detective," mantle more respected by the people. I don't think the system has a lot of love for him. That's the reason investigators quit That's the reason the actual police force distances themselves from him. Like Everyone starts having doubts. They're mortal, you know? Is this L dude just a guy? He's as clueless as the rest of us. Maybe he has just been getting lucky. Or worse Maybe he's a hack A magician And he had a hand in setting up all these crimes he's claimed to have solved. And now that he's faced with a real case, a real threat He's folding. Honestly, probably best to just let Kira have him. The Japanese police force with still have the director And at the end of the day He was always just a civilian helping out sometimes at best.
In my opinion Misa is smarter then most people give her credit for... *But* there's two things that hamper her; one is she can't keep her emotions in check when it involves Light/Kira and two is even someone with an above average intelligence looks like an *idiot* next to the intellectual titans of Light and L. If she could just *control herself for longer then five minutes* she would be a force to be reckoned with.
On another note; I do enjoy your analysis in this series so far as well as how often you respond, even to older episodes of this series. More over I respect how you look through the comments and when someone brings up a good point you acknowledge it, more so when they have a correction to one of your points.

This episode does show that the chief even though he's not on the level of Light or L, he still figured out that "Kira" was able to kill people without knowing their name. The detail of him putting the towel on his head neat.
Definitely not on the same level as Light or L - but damnit if he doesn't bring something to the table. Both in regard to his intelligence (as you described) but also his leadership (his men respect the hell out of him). I really admire the dude.
Just wanted to say, in the Manga, an ambulance does come by to pick Ukita's body up before the Chief rams the vehicle into the tv station's doors. Apparently Misa was kind enough not to murder the ambulance workers as they did that.

She probably didn't see paramedics as a threat to herself or Light, as they're just cleaning up a crime scene, not trying to confront her.
Imagine if the death note had determined that it's physically impossible for her to have killed herself at a location where nobody will ever find her - and thus had her die of a heart attack right in front of Light.

On the subject of Naomi Misora's suicide, her forensic knowledge *would* have made her disturbingly aware of not just how to hide the site of her suicide, but also how to prevent herself from being identified if found. The fanfiction "Silent Partner, Unfinished Business" (which is just an all-around fantastic story that I recommend everyone read) actually envisions how this might have played out in some pretty graphic detail. (Also, in that story she survives.)
12:40 - The police would have alerted any nearby cops to the situation over the radio, more than likely, so the assumption that the cop who pulled up to the Sakura TV building did so on purpose is a pretty sound one.
17:00 - They ultimately had to play the message tape at the end because if they didn't, there was a good chance that the Director General would be murdered outright. Putting out the message buys a bit of time, at the very least.
19:00 - Oh, this is interesting, actually. In the manga they don't spend MUCH more time on this than the anime, and details about it are spread out across the series, but it's made a little more clear that Light is discerning in who he kills and why. Besides Lind L. Taylor, the FBI agents, and Naomi Misora, he strictly kills criminals that he judges to deserve it. Which is to say, Light Yagami actually intentionally spares criminals whose motive he judges to be worthy of forgiveness. The anime never mentions this, but it's brought up as a difference in the M.O. between the first Kira and the others (all of whom target criminals with a different "emphasis," if that makes sense), and it's also a point on which Light differs with Mikami during the second half of the series, until he's able to establish contact through Takeda and "correct" Mikami about which criminals to kill.
So. Yeah. Not really a vital detail to the story making sense, but an interesting one.
20:00 - At this point the ICPO is just being chickenshit. Their immediate worry in this situation would be that Kira would start killing known members of law enforcement or the government if they don't fold. It's a valid fear, in a way. Every major politician, most minor ones, and the higher-ups in any law enforcement agency could theoretically be identified and killed by a Death Note user.
That’s a VERY good point, I didn’t even consider she would consciously use her own skills to cover up her suicide to that extent.

It's not exactly relevant to this video, but back when Light was talking with the fiance of the fbi agent in police station, not only didn't the receptionists notify any higher-ups from the station, nor did any security cameras existed within the buildings hall, nor outside. Which is very very stupid, but That's literally the only 2 things that saved Light from being 90% more suspicious
So, in the manga there are actually security cameras - and Light has to be strategic about where he stands. But that's something they removed from the anime. However, I don't know what excuse those receptionists could have. You have, like, one fucking job, guys. Lol. I guess maybe they thought she was full of it? Idk. I said this in the last episode but L's reaction to ukita dying shows to me that he may not show it but he genuinely does care about them all, even matsuda. I mean it's inevitable when you spend so much time with someone, unless their awful of course you're gonna end up respecting them or at least like them a little bit. I like the snippets of humanity we see in his normally closed of facade.
0:35 she is still canonically missing at the end of the series and that just. that fact made me hate Light so much more, Naomi is amazing and as someone who read the Los Angeles BB Murder Case quite recently and learnt her body is canonically missing at the end of the series right after reading it???? Just hurt my soul.

seriously, misas stunt has seriously hampered lights plans and image as kira in so many different ways and it will end up getting him the closest to being caught ever (before he actually gets caught that is, but in some ways that is also misas fault)
and throughout all of this, despite having shinigami eyes and getting them a second time later, misa turns out to be impressively useless for kiras cause until he had essentially already won. and even then she doesnt do anything that a more "qualified" follower of Kira couldnt do a way better job at.
misa is the textbook example of trying to help but making it so much worse by being incompetent.

You referring to Kira² as Kira for most of this video was interesting because, while my first and only other time watching the show was like 10 years ago, I still knew the big reveal and failed to imagine this as the original Kira on my rewatch, which would have made this episode as surprising in its turns with Kira²'s actions as you described it.
Also, just in general: I know this is the whole theme behind the channel anyway, but I really appreciate how smart you are. Sometimes you'll point out things I didn't consider, and it makes me think I wasn't thinking enough during my rewatch. As though I was focusing too much on enjoyment and not trying to match the bar that this anime for thinkers has set.

But yeah, I've seen this show... a lot. Probably like, half a dozen times (honestly, probably more than that lol) and I feel like I discover new stuff every single time. Especially this run through because I'm *looking* for it. So, it's not really so much intelligence, but more so me watching and stopping the show a lot to think about what was said. If anyone was with me while I was writing the scripts they'd probably be hella annoyed with how much I have to pause the show and let whatever just happened ruminate in my head. Lol.
I'd like to point out the timing of the tapes. These tapes were just sent after L introduced himself to Light. From the contents of the tape, Kira asking for the Director or L to appear on television seems strange as there's no way for Kira to be sure that if the L that appears on television is the real one or not, unless Kira already knows what L looks like. The timing of these tapes while technically would lead to nothing because of who we know actually sent them, should actually make Light look more suspicious here. Why would Kira ask the real L to appear on television if they have no idea what L looks like unless they do know what L looks like, which Light does and right after he got confirmation of who L was. Asking L to appear on television could be a diversion to increase the number of possibilities of who potentially could be Kira, which is why Kira is confident here that they'd be sure who the real L that appeared is but made to look as if Kira isn't close to L at all. Unfortunately it would just turn out that this Kira just didn't think this through much at all and it was all just a coincidence but it's something interesting to note in my opinion.
Now that they think there is a second Kira, this opens up all different kinds of possibilities. It could lead the investigation team to reconsider if the past instances revolving around Kira are connected or not. As you pointed out, killing Lind L. Tailor was unnecessary which aligns more with the actions of the second Kira. Were there always two Kira's or is this second one just showing themselves now? Having two Kira's makes it harder to connect which events lead to which Kira.
I'd also like to point out that going along with Kira here is a bad choice no matter who they picked to appear on television. I think the assumption was that having L appear would be better as he is the main concern Kira is facing whereas if the Director were to appear, Kira would kill them and then move onto the next person, asking the same question, so and so or L, until Kira finally got L to appear which is probably why they just went with L appearing instead. This is somewhat similar to what happened in the Dark Knight movie. Joker asks Batman to reveal his true identity or he will continue to kill people.

Misa is interesting, she's more powerful because of the eyes but also less powerful because she doesn't know the full extent the death note can manipulate people (unlike Light she doesn't have access to police records to run experiments on criminals) which is probably why she doesn't have a dead-man-walking send the tapes for her from across the globe

makes me wonder if you could get the shinigami eyes, and sentence someone to death up until the day before they die, and with it command them to live a fulfilling life without intentions of hurting others.
if that was possible, wouldn't that be a better sentence for criminals? i mean you can argue they dont deserve fulfilling lives depending on their crimes, but wouldnt it be better if they became contributing members of society and helped make the world a better place, rather than have them sit in a cell accomplishing nothing for anyone?
Assuming you can cancel a death note command before its carried out, then if the note gets destroyed or the user dies, that criminal may still remain a reformed person just due to their improved living conditions and not wanting to ruin all the good theyve done for others. depending on how long theyve spent under the death note's command of course.
and im not forgetting the elephant in the room. Detailing such a command for every name you write down would be a fucking nightmare. still an interesting idea though I'd say. if someone were devoted to it as much as Light was with his killing sprees, then even just a fraction of the names he writes down in a session would be a fairly significant amount of people.

"Kira's image" is the key phrase in this imo because Light got hoed by L yes, and he made mistakes between L and himself BUT Lind L Taylor was his only PUBLIC Disgrace.

Man, L is such a hard character to analyze because I don't think he is ever nervous or angry or sad, but is in fact faking it in order to get what he wants. So in this situation the rules in which he has set out for how they should act based on what's considered safe has been altered. I don't think L really cared about the death of Ukita (or however it's spelled) based on his "feelings" towards him, but only showed emotion in order to convince the others that he actually cares about him so they would listen to him and wouldn't just go out and die before their usefulness is not needed anymore. I always view L through the lens of everything he does is mulipulative and is only for selfish reasons in order to win. NOT for justice or saving lives, but to win this phycological battle vs Kira.
Damn, I didn’t think about it this far. So, you think he’s a complete sociopath? Because I could see that. I cut it out of the video that’ll be premiering on Tuesday, but I wrote: “to the other members of the Investigation who aren’t nearly as calculating and duplicitous as Ryuzaki is. And I know those words carry a negative connotation - but, it’s true, he is calculating and he is duplicitous - and it’s those attributes that not only make him a perfect foil for Light, but they also allow him to work alongside Light while actively treating him as his number one suspect. The others just aren’t built like that, and so, I’d imagine it would ultimately affect their ability to perform their jobs the way Ryuzaki needs them to.”
@@overanalyzinganime I'm pretty sure the Author stated that L "is evil, but not as much as Light". All he wants is to "win" this battle of wits just like Light. Light doesn't really care about "creating a new world" and L doesn't care about "justice prevailing" they both just want to win and literally don't care about anything else. A good spot in the story which you haven't reach with your videos yet is when they bugged Yotsuba and learned they were going to kill X, Y, and Z people. Light (memory loss) and his father (who is defined by the Author I believe as the only "good" or justice driven person) want to act in order to prevent the deaths of the "innocent people" even if it risked letting Kira slip through their grasp.While L literally would've let them die in order to prove Kira was among them so he could win this ego driven battle of wits.

Hell yes, go for it Lisa! Death Note is a series that really is worth further dissection and analysis. Honestly, there's probably plenty that I'm not even picking up.

Not taking the manga into account, I do see Misa being okay with an ambulance coming in to take the body. She only killed Ukita after it was obvious that he wasn't going to leave and was pulling out his gun to shoot the glass. As long as the medics didn't try to open the door she'd be fine with them coming in to get the body.

The scene at the very beginning isn't just "Light is in his room"
It's also the beginning of the answer to the cliffhanger from the previous episode. Werent meant to believe that Light is the source of the tapes, and it's a great moment for the audience to be left thinking to themselves

10:27 this might imply that the rules are written by the gods of death themselves; meaning they had to find out by trail and error.
I imagine L aired the tapes to make the most of the situation. He probably thought it was the optimal play given the circumstances.
1. He probably caught on quickly that it had been a different Kira, given the profile he built over the actual one and how the broadcast had Kira using dense and vague words like "I hate evil, and love justice." That's a terrible first impression, the First Kira would never go for that. Also of course, Ukita died without having revealed his name, and the fact he was killed the way he did. Imagine if Kira controlled Ukita and made him show his ID to the officer before he died, that would've been more of a First Kira play. As is, it looked like a play of overconfidence or a Chess blunder where he accidentally showed he only needs a face. Anyway, in airing the broadcast, L provokes the First Kira into hasty and drastic measures, which he wanted and couldn't get from the 1500 investigators thing.
2. Kira looks incompetent now, and like you said, human. He seems limited, like someone who can be outplayed. This is absolutely something you want announced to the world if you're L.
3. Kira looks limited, having threatened the life of L or the deputy director. Goes to show that he cannot yet kill L. Also, he had only asked for them to appear, not wanting their name. This is probably something he knew the First Kira would catch onto.
4. L looks indispensable. Being someone who hadn't revealed his name, he's the only one equipped to challenge Kira. The world has databases and all that, it was built for Kira's reign. By the way..
I don't know why this whole plot line was dropped. L could’ve agreed to appear on TV, potentially faked his death again as he did with Lind L. Tailor and continued the investigation in secret. Or L couldve just told Kira "it doesn't have to be me so your play is shit" If Kira continued to make the public question Ls life over another person, eventually people would side with Kira to stop the senseless murders. Or at least, they would urge L to stop chasing Kira.
And I imagine they chose L to appear on TV just to stop those ultimatums before they became a trend. Kira could play that card endlessly.
Anyway, I love your videos. You thought of so many things I didn't think of~ I had been thinking of making a channel just like yours but I was indecisive and shy lol

I saw you posted on today's video and it reminded me that I never responded to this comment - even though I really wanted to. In regard to making your own channel - do it! I too was skeptical about doing these - especially considering I have a whole other channel filled with some pretty low quality content (at least in comparison to what I'm doing now). I've always been self conscious about my voice because I used to get picked on for "sounding like I had a dick in my mouth." (Kids can be assholes). But, yeah. If you're nervous about the quality of your videos - well, I'll be straight up in saying that my videos may be pretty good now - but they weren't always like this. It took time. I have a whole other channel that's filled with pretty garbage videos, tbh (not anime related content, though). So, I say go for it, Rainy! If it's something you really wanna do, there's no harm in trying - I mean, you'll never really know until you try!

When perusing distances in japan, Public transit rationale paints a clearer picture than driving time.
Kanto - Osaka is a local train, HSR, Local train swap that takes 12 hours. you can grab a bed compartment for the middle part and sleep through it, only requiring you to be awake for maybe 3 hours of the total thing.
Tochigi - Shinjuku is a 3 local train swap that only takes 1 hour 45 to complete, most of which you are chilling in metros and watching death note.
when concidered as thus, you realize why it didnt seem like a big deal to Amane's friend. they arrived at tokyo on saturday morning, recorded whatever, and fucked off with the tapes that night, and where back home sunday morning, and just slept on the train. As for Light it was piss easy to check the maps and walk to the tochigi station, board the train, do the 3 swaps, and get off at shinjiku, and stroll the rest of the way.
Thank-you for the additional insight! Using drive times probably wasn’t the best idea - I think I was just viewing it through the lens of an American, because I don’t know many people who use trains for casual travel - people are typically driving or flying.

I know I like to fondly remember how well I identify with L… but sometimes I wonder if I would have been more naive like MisaMisa when faced with this kind of reality.
So, interestingly enough - in watching Episode 13, Misa is actually pretty smart. Her issue is that she’s ridiculously impulsive, and that makes her look kinda stupid. But the way she implemented her plans in Episode 13… I mean, there’s a reason that my thumbnail for that answer is going to be “I WAS WRONG.” Lol. Because I definitely ripped into her in my script for Episode 12 and it’s already mostly finished so I can’t go back and edit it before I drop it on Tuesday. Lol. But, yeah.

I didn’t think about it like that. You’re right before the broadcasts Kira could’ve been some specter or supernatural entity or even deity. But the broadcasting on a trashy tv station is very wannabe celebrity. Kira was more frightening as an abstract concept. Now they for sure know Kira is a person and one that can make mistakes and be stopped
i never thought about it before but she possibly could have throw herself into the ocean or found a way to burn her body to ashes without anyone finding out? not sure of the amount of time it took her to find a good place conflicts with the time rules
I never made it past three episodes in the anime, this is going to be my canon.
I can actually see more people supporting kira than people hating them. I think without knowing what i know as a viewer, I would support kira to. I think anyone who is a victim of a serious crime would be, which is a lot of people. Then you have all the people who are in awful situations like poverty, abusive situations etc I think that would push a lot of people into supporting kira, just like how people can turn to religion when things in their life goes wrong or they're in a shitty situation.

The details about her death are not that "she will choose a location where her body won't be found" rather it says "and her body will not be discovered."
Does the manner in which that is written alter reality in some fashion, versus simply making her choose a remote spot at which to commit the act?

Year old video, maybe you've made this change already but I would reccomend not feigning ignorance of the situation due to it not being reveled yet within the episode even though you as the reviewer clearly know the truth. Analysing this episode knowing who Misa is and contrasting all of the differences in her modus operandi as compared to Light would have in my opinion made for slightly more compelling content then the feigned confusion you ended up going for. Still a great video!

At least thousands of people are down with Kira at this stage. Even millions being down with him would represent a small percentage of the planet.
It's "what are the odds that a second notebook exists and was picked up by a human that fits the following criteria:
A. Parents were murdered
B. Murderer of said parents was captured and found guilty, but underpunished, and
C. Was "lucky" enough to have said murderer be in turn murdered by Kira.
That's gotta be a pretty narrow field. And it's not the sort of plot convenience that is justified in a "the force often creates such coincidences" sort of a way. The Shinigami are just some random, bored ass beings doing stuff for poops and laughs.
