  • We were originally scheduled to land a ski plane on Ruth Glacier Amphitheatre, near Denali, but due to cloud cover, we had to adjust our tour to a flight weaving near "The Great One" (Denali), its surrounding peaks, and over their glaciers, instead, in a Piper Navajo Chieftain. It was, nevertheless, ...indescribable.

"Alaska has more than 40% of the nation’s surface water resources including over 12,000 rivers, 3 million lakes greater than 5 acres and numerous creeks and ponds."
...that's just the ones over 5 acres in size. Most of the lakes are unnamed, we were told.

"The Hurricane, or Hurricane Turn, is a passenger train operated by the Alaska Railroad between Talkeetna and Hurricane Gulch in Alaska. This train is unique in that rather than making scheduled station stops, it is a flag stop train meaning that passengers between Talkeetna and Hurricane can wave a white cloth anywhere along the route and the train will stop to pick them up. ...The Hurricane Turn is one of the last true flagstop trains in the United States."
