This is the first video I've seen where someone explains how the release actually works and how to properly adjust it. Thank you.
Excellent description on downriggers and the Chamberlain releases. I just learned of these releases and they are the best but I had tangles when I mounted them above the cannon ball so I tried above the snubber as you suggested and much better. I need to try the stacker next. Thanks for another excellent video - keep up the great work.
Thanks for explaining the how to set up a downrigger. Planning on my first fishing trip using one.
Likely the best too the point no BS video I’ve ever seen. Nice jobs
absolultly the best video explination of a good downrigger setup. I was out with a guide today to try and improve my trolling game we had great success and he had the same setup.
awesome video! just what the hubby and I were wondering about down riggers!
Thanks for the heads up on the Chamberlains. I just ordered 2 and a stacker for Australian delivery! I haven't used a downrigger for years, I've been fly fishing - but I have some locally made ones on the new boat.
Another awesome video perfect explanation on everything great job thanks again keep the videos coming
Good video , I wish we would get nice rain 🌧️ here in Cali like you do
Excellent tutorial!
Showed me a lot. Thanks and tight lines
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Well done , I. ran a pair of electric Scottys off the back of my 18 ft Lund . Many similarities to your setup . My friend ran a pair of Big Jon downriggers . If I were to do another setup, I would go Big Jon , electric. Thx for your excellent video . Good luck this year .
You are such a resource for information as a whole but particularly an incredible resource for us in New England! Because as you said Great Lakes things that do but don’t apply up here. You literally cover all of the topics! Haha thank you!
I’m trying! Haha thanks
Great video, concise explanations!
Great video. Best I’ve seen yet.
Chamberlain releases are hands down the best
Great video explained a lot I didn't know thanks.
Thanks man! Helped a ton!
Great video ! Thanks
Very helpful thanks
I bought chamberlains releases but haven’t used them yet. I’ve watched several videos on the chamberlain releases. Your video was excellent. Thanks
Glad to hear!
Nice riggin’ guy
Many of the links are broken. Nice video 😊
What is that bar across the back of boat that your downriggers are mounted to?
Never heard of a snubber but just ordered one. Definitely worth it losing $8 and a ball over the release and everything.
For sure
Thank you for the video, it is very informative! Question as far as the double-stack release clip... I too have switched my downrigger from wire to 200lb braided line. Does the double-stack release clip slide on the braided line, or does it stay where you put it? I'll be fishing Salmon on Lake Michigan in
It stays!
Great video...thanks. I am curious about the rope accessory you have to pull the DR line toward you when attaching the line to the clip. That accessory and the attached rope lowers into water as you drop your DR cable as well? Where did you get it?
No it doesn’t.. it might thouch the water a bit but it has a roller on the end that the cable goes through so it stays above water. Its linked in the description of video :)
i was wondering what size drift socks your using? great videos !!!
I use a bunch of sizes depending on speed. I have some 2 foot, 3 foot, and 18” ones.
Have you tried any Okuma equipment? if so where do you place them compared to the one you recommend? Thanks for a well explained subject matter video.
@@homesteadfromscratch not a fan of the okuma stuff.. I have 3 cold water reels. They look like a million bucks but don’t work anywhere near as good as the shimano.
Hey - great video! What do you have on each end of the snubber - the green material?
It’s just the way it’s made
Chris - I’m running MAG5’s with stainless but fully agree with the bad harmonic annoying noise you mention. What weight Dacron are you using & how much did you end up spooling?
I can’t remember what lb test I got, but it was 150-200lb I’m guessing. I linked the stuff in the description and I used the whole box.
What style line terminator are you using? I switched over to the Dacron in the spring and used the Cannon line terminator and it managed to slide off the Dacron and I lost my whole setup to the bottom. Didn’t know if they made a specific terminator for Dacron.
I got rid of it and tied directly to the swivel. The rubber stop thing slides over the knot and protects it.
Release clip links no longer work
How far do you put your lure from the downrigger weight ball?
@@Marioguajardo3167 depends.. anywhere from 5-100 ft. Usually I’m about 20-30
@@mainetroutwhisperer I’m new to this trolling. I’ll be trolling at about 10-20 feet deep.
@@Marioguajardo3167 depends how clear the water is and how spooked of the ball they are. I’d start with 30ft back.
@@mainetroutwhisperer it’s about the water clarity is about 4 feet.
