I’m from Boston. Of course back then whenever I traveled a B fitted was an essential accessory. My friend from back home whom I stayed with had a partner of his come pick us to go out. Bro was from Inglewood if I’m not mistaken. After we dapped he said that I may wanna leave the hat behind. Straight Scooby Doo face from me. He then broke everything down. I was hatless the rest of my stay.
Here in the Chi it aint what hat you wear but how you wear it(Turned right or left) however back in the 90s we did rock a few hats that had meanings for example: Gds wore Raiders gear because Raiders stood for (Ruthless Ass Insane Deciple Everywhere Running Shit),Boston gear that stood for (Brothers Of The Struggle Taking Over The Nation),Houston Astros because of the cracked 5 point star logo plus any Duke Blue Devil or Depaul Blue Demon hat....now under the 5 the Stones use to rock Stl Cardinals hats because the STL stood for Stone Love,the ViceLord's and Latin Kings wore any yellow/gold hat (Pirates,Steelers etc) thats just an example however that was the 90's shit done changed here💯

I am originally from San Diego and then moved up to Fresno, but I always knew I had to move different when it came to LA. Even when I would drive through LA and get gas I always made sure I didn't stick out and when I was in LA with family or the homies we always made sure we kept our head on a swivel. Mostly because we know all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and you can get pressed etc....

I went to Cali on a greyhound. I had on a red Houston Rockets hat and the CK in the hat was the biggest letters. Had a stop in Texas and a dude told me thar I'm going to have to take that off once I got out there. I was going to San Bernadino and then Riverside from there. He said that was crip area. Later on in the trip I met a dude from Oakland and I was telling him what the dude told me about my hat. That fool said F them. That's your hat. You bought it and you ain't from no gang ish so rock your ish. I was already leaning that way anyway so I was like F it. When we finally got there, I saw an In and Out Burger not far from the bus station. I decided to walk to the burger spot with my hat on just to see if anyone would tell me anything. Nothing. A dude in a wheelchair asked me for a cigarette but that was it. I went got my burger (In and Out overrated) and went back to the bus station. That's when I started to see a lot of dudes in the area rocking red. That was the only time I wore non neutral colors while I was out there. I figure they won't just kill me without question. They'll at least ask where I'm from first and once they hear me talk they'll know I'm not from there. I ended up meeting some cool dudes out there. I met some weirdos too.

Not from LA but lived near Fremont high school for a while. Just avoid going anywhere out there. You wanna go to Hollywood. Beaches or theme parks than do it. Avoid the clown places where you gotta worry about what your hat say. Them clowns won’t be happy until they run them all out and the neighborhoods completely gentrified. A lot places I avoided and I had a firearm on me almost all the time. I remember going to some African art event they had at the watts towers and one of the most peaceful days I had. That’s how it should be out there

I was just in LA last week literally on Crenshaw and Slauson at the fat burger and I had my homegirl who’s from that neighborhood chillin wit me….did I need her there? Not really but I like having folks from the hood wit me because I don’t wanna look lost although I knew where I was. But while I was there I showed nothing but love to everybody but not because I’m afraid but because I love my people. I pray for south central it needs a lot of TLC.
