- Takoyaki, or Octopus Balls is one of Japan’s best-known street food originated in Osaka.Takoyaki is very popular Japanese street food,hot snack, shaped like a golf ball that has crispy coating around the outside and soft filling inside, made of wheat flour, diced octopus, and ginger. Because of the octopus filling, foreigners like to refer takoyaki as octopus balls.たこ焼き
Takoyaki たこ焼き or 蛸焼 is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special molded pan. It is typically filled with minced or diced octopus (tako), tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, and green onion. Takoyaki are brushed with takoyaki sauce (similar to Worcestershire sauce) and mayonnaise, and then sprinkled with green laver (aonori) and shavings of dried bonito. There are many variations to the takoyaki recipe, for example, ponzu (soy sauce with dashi and citrus vinegar), goma-dare (sesame-and-vinegar sauce) or vinegared dashi.たこ焼きtakoyaki
Yaki is derived from "yaku" (焼く) which is one of the cooking methods in Japanese cuisine, meaning "to fry or grill", and can be found in the names of other Japanese cuisine items such as okonomiyaki and ikayaki other famous Osakan dishes.たこ焼き

1. Smiles (takoyaki on hand)
2. Swallows 1 whole sphere of takoyaki
3. Spit out takoyaki in disbelief 🥵
4. Complain it’s hot while laughing in embarrassment

I didn't spit it, I just inhale and exhale through my mouth while the takoyaki is in my mouth. Then chew it while tapping my feet cause it is so delicious.

Seeing the pile of batter n other ingredients eventually roll up into clean little balls is one of the most satisfying things

the essence of mastery is making it look easy.....
having said that, I'VE TRIED making takoyaki at home, with literally zero experience... trust me, this man (or woman) makes it look VERY easy....
It's also so intriguing and interesting that this is esentially their "fair food," like... their version of turkey legs and frito pies... or like in mexico, gorditas and tripita. I find that fair foods (or carnival foods) better describe a culture than traditional cuisine. These foods always adapt to the current trends and cultures, and always maintain a bit of tradition. I swear, I need to visit Japan one day before I go....

lol when the vendor sprinkled them in then yes it was an unfair distribution but you can clearly see at the 4:40 mark that when he/she starts rolling them into balls they do get distributed to all, even the ones on the side. lol

I don’t know why but seeing the swiftness and life experience of this cook really hits for some reason. Like it makes your realize halfway around the world people live life so much differently than yours but with the same purpose: to live it to the fullest. People think I’m just obsessed with anime and a “weeb” but in reality japanese culture really helped push me towards exploring multiple cultures around the world. Can’t wait to start making these suckers and share it with my family. Don’t even get me started on the festival ambience lol

There arechain of japanese malls in my country and inside were the takoyaki stall. Sometimes they made new batch for you and the wait is agonising😂😂😂. One tako set is never enough though.
