Freezing your bag of rice as soon as you bring it home from the store and leaving it in the freezer for at least four days will kill the adult bugs and possibly their eggs. (freezer time may vary upon the research you do) It’s your personal choice what you fill your gnomes with. Just have fun making them!
Miriam's Crafting Cottage Cute Gnomes so easy who doesn’t have odd socks 🧦
You can also mix some food-grade diatomaceous earth in with the rice and it will kill any type of bugs and their eggs. It is non-toxic and I use it all the time. If it is windy, I cover my mouth when applying it because it is a fine powder. Also, I mix it with water and use it as a spray.
@@wiseowls117 we use it for natural flea control too. Please be sure to cover your nose too. Even though it's natural and organic it can really harm your lungs.
@@trollyforest2618 Amen. I had to argue with two different older ladies about this same thing. Terrible management for not showing their employees the ins and outs on things in this department ( or at least a howt oli st behind the counter for them to see and know how).
@@wiseowls117 NO worries it won't hurt you if it gets into your mouth or nose thankfully. A lot of us with Lyme Disease and RMSF use it to detox and on our gardens a lot etc. I have asthma and a co- infection that affects my lungs and this does wonders for my lungs.
These gnomes are just too cute! Love how easily they come together!
These are some of, if not THE cutest ones I've seen, but what I love, as soon as you tie off the white sock, these gnomes become alive in your heart!
I always use plastic water bottles and put little rock pebbles at the bottom of the bottle and stuff the rest with stuffing never have to worry about bugs in the rice so cute thank you for the video
I am not a gnome person but I wanted ideas for crafts to do with my kids and I am so glad I watched this. What a brilliant and informative tutorial. Not only was it clear and straight to the point but I absolutely loved how much you spoke about his personality and gave him a little persona as you were making him. It made the video quite magical. Definitely going to be making some gnomes with my kids now. Thank you for sharing this.
These gnoms are the most adorable thing I've ever seen. I just love them can't wait to make them thanks
Best gnome making video EVER! Thank you for sharing! ❤ That are so adorable! I watch the clearance bin at Joann's all the time for fur and I FINALLY scored a few days ago! I am super excited to make these with my granddaughters!
Thank you, I'm going to make them for next year. I crochet a lot of lap robe for our local VA Hospital. I love making and giving my items away to hospitals and nursing homes. There are so many people out there that never get a gift or see their families. Thank you for the video. I'm legally bland from an eye stroke 5 years ago, see only a little in each eye but can still help others in a very small way. M
Your thoughtfulness doesn’t go unnoticed! Merry Christmas!🎄
I'm very grateful for people taking the time to make these videos.
I have my rice in the freezer and going to pick up supplies for my Christmas Gnome tomorrow! I think it will be a fun project for the grandkids while they're off for the Christmas holidays! Thank you for doing it great tutorial!!
I loved the look of these so i decided to try to make it myself! They turned out so adorable!!! So much so that i actually made 3 of them, giving one each to my sisters and keeping one for myself! Thank you for the easy-to-follow instructions.
Brilliant! These are so easy and they would be the cutest little stocking stuffers or decorating the house with them for Christmas. Make a few for each Holiday and all seasons, even Superbowl parties. The ideas for these cute little guys are endless. I volunteer at a old age home and making a bunch of these would bring quite a few smiles to my senior friends. Thank you Miriam!!
I'm just searching for odd socks now. Lol I like to keep a small bag of them in case their partner turns up. Now they have a use. Thanks so much for cute and easy Xmas ornament Super cute.
I absolutely love these gnomes!! 2 years ago, I made them for my coworkers and they loved them!! Thanks for a great video!
I love how you’re falling in love with him as you make this. So cute. Thanks n
Yes! Me too!
Me too. She’s like a sweetheart.
Have you ever watched the Jenny Jones cooking channel here? She's super sweet and funny too. She's the same Jenny Jones that had that talk show years ago.
@@debbietencza190 I’ll be sure to look her up. Yes I know the show you’re referring to. 😃
@@johannebrunner6477 You'll love it!
Sooooo cute. Grand-daughters are spending the weekend and we will be making your cute Christmas gnomes!!!
I love this. I see a Gnomes Family in my future and my kids. Hubby and I are empty nesters and have a tee tiny tree. So I decorate with things instead of a big tree. Thank you for this.
Finally someone made a version I can do! Thank you
I just discovered your tutorials! I LOVE your little gnomes and hopefully I will be able to make them for Christmas! Thank you for sharing your design!!!
These are beyond being cute! I just love these little gnomes and they seem so easy to make. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this tutorial! I love gnomes and I have crocheted a small one to go with my store-bought larger gnomes. I will be trying this for sure!!!! Great tip below about freezing the bag of rice for several days.
So cute and a great Christmas 🎄 gift. Hand made and it seems very few people need anything anymore.
Absolutely gorgeous, thank you so much for sharing your method.
That lil guy is just too cute. Love him ❤
They are darling! They would make a cute little hostess gift too. I think you could set them just about any place around or in your house, even the bathrooms, just for a hint of Christmas throughout your house! Very cute and easy to do!
Omg this is the cutest craft EVER! Can’t wait to have a family crafting day with my kids and grands!!!
this is the most adorable little guy. thanks so much for sharing with us. I am going to make him or maybe even a few.
I made three of these last year after watching her video and I'm going to make more this year. They are quick, easy and fun to make and so cute when they're done.
These little gnomes are so cute. I bought socks last year, to make some of these, but never got around to doing it. I discovered the bag of socks a few days ago, so watching this video has inspired me to make a start. Thanks.
I did the same thing, only I was going to make snowmen last year. Based on this tutorial, I believe I can make some gnomes.
I've watched other ladies, you really taught me something that none of them mentioned. It was how you cut the fur from in back, and then, Pull. How neat! Thank you! Use a blush brush to apply the blush, it goes on easier and quicker, than with a small brush.
Looking forward to seeing more ideas from you!
Tom Valveede I’m so glad that I had a tip that could help......... and thank you for the brush tip! I hope you’ve had a chance to make one of those adorable gnomes!
@@miriamscraftingcottage8980 I am making a gnome from your tutorial now. My 1st one ever. =0)
If you glue a glass or heavy metal coaster as the base, the gnomes will stand up well, and will also give the crafter lots of flexibility about what materials to stuff with. Thank you - adorable!
oh good idea
oh my god, thats the cutest ever!!! I am a caregiver and my residents and friends would LOVE these!
They make wonderful gifts for sure! Thank you so much for watching!
Started making these for this Christmas. Very easy to make. I did use wood noses and less beard to show the shirt underneath. Also glued them to a wood slice so they stand up forever. I used my own old white socks! Four cups of rice was perfect. Had to order the little rubber bands from Amazon, but they really work great. Added the jingle bell and I am really pleased with how they turned out. Again, her directions are easy to follow and you can keep the cost down by making the beards a little smaller.
I love your family of winter gnomes. The gray beards must be grampa gnomes. The fake fur you bought is absolutely beautiful. A mantle decorated with them all lined up would be adorable.
I have looked at countless videos on gnome making and yours is the one I'll use to make mine. Thanks for a video that's easy to follow
I had a bag of mini zip ties that worked great for tying off the top and nose, and I filled mine with walnut shell cat litter. Thanks for a cute, quick craft and clear instructions.
Zip ties should last longer than the rubber bands. Great idea
This will be the perfect craft to do with my granddaughters. It is easy and cute, and I just know they will love their little gnomes! Thank you!
Hello Bev Happy Merry Christmas to you. I hope you are safe and having a good weather. Nice to meet you.
I love this tutorial!! You did such an excellent job of keeping the instruction moving forward while talking about his personality and steps to make him. I wish everyone was as prepared as you were when making videos. I will be making a few of these for my family.
How cute! This ticks off all of the boxes: cute, affordable, easy and does not require a great deal of artistic talent! Keep up the good work. Great craft to do with kids or grandkids!
I made a gnome using your video. Thank you so much. Instead of new socks I used items from the thrift shop: white sports socks; upcycled sweaters sleeves for the body and the hat.I even found a piece of fur for the beard. I used a sewing machine to construct the clothing pieces but they could be sewn by hand too. Actually one sweater could make many gnomes. Very cute.
I watched a gazillion of these “how to make a gnome“ videos and yours is the first one that has ever emphasize the need to reinforce the rubber band, and you do it without using hot glue! You make a perfect example/argument for why you do this and you were absolutely correct, the rubber band will the grain, and glue will harden so that won’t necessarily work. Tying a string is ingenious!
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate your comments!
I made these last year for gifts. Everyone enjoyed receiving them but one person was so upset that he didn't have eyes under his hat. She just couldn't understand why I would make something without a face. lol. If this seems to be an issue just glue or sew a couple of black seed beads for eyes. Thank you so much for this tutorial. Hugs and blessings
The gnomes are just to cute!! I am not to crafty, just had to try to create a gnome or two! Took me a little longer then 15 minutes and I love the finished gnome!
I love that each little gnome has their own little personality.....I’m sure yours turned out perfect! Merry Christmas!🎄
He is adorable. And so easy to make. Thank you.
These are so fun to make! I’ve already made 4 and will be making 4 more. I used solid colored anklet socks (black) to cover the white sock and stitched them in place so no white shows through. I’m going to use mini red bows with Christmas buttons & bells as decoration for the hats. I can’t wait to give them away as gifts & see everyone’s expressions! Even my husband thought they were cute. Have fun making these.
excellent host, best I've seen on demonstration. thank you for passing along how-to Hope to see more of you
Those are the cutest Gnomes ever and I plan on making some myself this holiday season. Thanks.
This is an excellent project for those of us who are on a tight budget. I know that she said that the faux fur is expensive, but you could find it at a thrift store. Either as part of something else, or in the spot where they have bits and pieces of material etc., also the socks, as well as other items that you may not have on hand. Sometimes it's possible to find these items brand new, still in the original packaging, for a fraction of the original price! Taking advantage of the dollar stores is an excellent idea too. You can add things like feet, spectacles, as well as creating girl gnomes by putting hair in the back, to start with, or maybe make a couple of yarn braids (also taking advantage of the thrift store for materials). I enjoyed this tutorial, helped me get into the holiday spirit a little bit! May your Holidays be as good as they possibly can for all of us, this has been a difficult year for all people no matter what you believe!
🙋♥️🏵️🌾🍂🍁🍂🌾🏵️✌🏾💪🏾😷☯️
Love these guys! I’m going to buy the supplies and have a gnome making activity for all the girls over the holiday. Boys, too if they want!
By far the best Gnome tutorial I have seen. Thank you!!!

So adorable and you made it look easy. I found my first Gnome in Germany and have been hooked ever since! Thank you.
I'm glad I looked at your vedeio the second time . I believe I can cut the fur better then I do now . Thank you so much . Love the different ways a person can make the Gnomes. I enjoy makeing them .
Inspiring video, thank you for sharing! I volunteer at a resale shop that helps support homeless women and children in my local area. I found most of all the things I needed at the store and made two of these little cuties today to sell. One of them didn't even make it out of the back room before another volunteer fell in love with it. Your video is so good that I had no trouble making them and they look absolutely adorable! Kudos to you!
"he's a little chunker" - you're so funny! Can't wait to make these.
Thanks for this video! I was searching for an easy gnome tutorial to do with a group of ladies in November. THIS IS PERFECTION! Thanks for doing it live so we can see pitfalls and successes. Better than full-on edited where you don't see the problem-solving.
Hello Jen Happy Merry Christmas to you. I hope you are safe and having a good weather. Nice to meet you.
Thank you so much for your tutorials!!! I'm absolutely in love with this little Gnome ❤❤
Love these. I added eyes which gave him more personality. I also cut the bottom out of the red cup and made a funnel for pouring the rice. Lots easier. Thanks for a great video.
I use a straight edge razor l use a razor
Blade or an exacto knife to cut the back - works great. Your guys are cute!
Molly Fien thank you so much for the tip.... I’ll try it next time!
They are so adorable. Thank you for sharing. I cant wait to make some.
I love that you say to yourself "cute, cute, cute" instead of the perfectionist's voice I'd hear and say
these lil fellas are so adorable, i cant wait to make these for my Christmas gifts and also for my holiday baskets I make, thanks for sharing
I really appreciate your kind comments! I hope you enjoy make these little guys!
Absolutely adorable,
Cute to place a pair of mini sunglasses on his nose
Zztop
And if you can not find sunglasses, grab in the greeting card section the sunglasses stickers. Stick to card stock paper, cut out to size and one Dan of hot glue between the eyes and glasses will stick
15 mins indeed! I love it, thank you for sharing.
My daughter came to visit, and we made a few of these ~ well, actually, about 10 because they are too much fun to stop! We had so much fun with them!! Each one has its own personality. We used a variety of socks and trims, and love them all. We had to make another trip to the dollar store for more socks. We are officially addicted!!
I love when daughters come to visit.... that’s the BEST! I’m so glad that you had a wonderful time together making these cute little gnomes! It’s fun to see each little personality develop! I made some using valentine socks and I absolutely love them! Thank you so much for watching!💕
Hello Happy Merry Christmas to you. I hope you are safe and having a good weather. Nice to meet you.
Rice needs to be frozen so you don’t get little bugs. I use cat litter, the gravel kind, not expensive and doesn’t get bugs. Easy to store and stands up better. 👍
Michele Conley Eckert bay leaf or chili pepper will stop that
Bugs??
I like the cat litter better
I've never heard that you can freeze rice to kill weevils before... good to know.
If you freeze the rice, will it never get bugs after you make the gnomes? Or must you keep in freezer?
Love this little gnome. thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day!!
Donna Kelso Thank you for watching! I love how they each have their own unique little personality. Keep watching for more holiday ideas. Have a wonderful day!
Of all of the videos on Christmas gnomes, you have the best by far. Your teaching and demonstrations are spot on. Thank you!! All of my kids and grandkids are getting one this year.
Cute little gnomes and so simple to make.
Thank you so much for an easy no sew gnome. I’m going to make some and give them out at Xmas. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much 😉💕
Absolutely adorable, I have always wanted to make the gnomes, your wonderful instructions have inspired me to do so! Thank you for sharing ❤️
I really need to give you my (belated) thanks for making this video. I stumbled upon it 3 years ago and my other half and I have since made it a tradition to make a new gnome each, every year. He looks forward to it so much that he will spend weeks searching for different coloured socks and working out a new "theme" for the years gnome.
That is such a fun tradition…… I love it! Thank you so much for watching and the kind comment!
Live these. A must try. Thanks for posting
I've seen these gnomes made with a pair of boots on the bottom...the kind that come as ornaments to hang on a Christmas tree.
Super cute.
These are so cute and so easy. I was just looking at a Christmas gnome at Walmart that I loved, now I can make my own. Thanks.
Love, Love, Love this. Thank you to other people for suggesting alternate items to fill him with. Rice is at a premium with people stocking up, so your suggestions help. I can't wait to make this little gnomes.
I love your enthusiasm about making the gnomes!! I'm going to try to make one myself! 🤞🤞
I love ❤️ your Gnomes they are so cute and easy to make , thanks for sharing!🙏👍
Soooo cute. Love this... Put rice in freezer for a few days and than add a bay leaf, bugs detest them. Like the cinnamon sticks and cloves, drown out the bay leaf smell, although I like the smell of bay leaf. Great tutorial :)
I love this. Thank you for sharing.
He is soooo precious! I love the mustache, too!
I have an honest-to-goodness question. How in the world could you watch this video and give it a thumbs down?????? I LOVED it! I am a gnome making fool!! lol!
I know! Over 400 dislikes???????
Jealous people 🙄
I agree completely!
Doesn’t make sense, must be a bunch of Scrooges!
I wondered the same thing🤦♀️
Haters be hatin
Dental floss also works for tying the top of the head and nose.
what a mint idea 💡
@@dalilaho2366 so punny !
Adorable. Wish I had seen this sooner before I started making my yearly ornaments for my nieces. Well, there is always next year! Thanks for sharing these adorable guys.
Wow what a wonderful idea thanks for sharing.
OMG!! I'm making these for Christmas. Too cute and so easy. I still double tie my shoes.
So adorable!!! Your comments are so funny "Oh, isn't he cute!!" I enjoyed this tremendously! Thank you!!
I also thought so. I had such a good giggle, watching the video and listening to the commentary!X
How adorable and easy too. Thank you for sharing. I’d like to see more of your videos.
I love these gnomes!!! Tfs.
These are soooooo adorable.
I am in love!! These will be my christmas presents this year!!

I'm obsessed with these gnomes and im not a crafty person but these are so easy. Thank you so much from Australia.
OMG these are the cutest version of gnomes I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing your creativity! 💜
Those are the CUTEST THINGS EVER !! 💚❤
This is adorable and a quick an easy craft. I’m making them for nieces and nephews and their spouses for Christmas this year. I didn’t know about the bug issue but will put my rice in the freezer now since I’m not ready to make them yet. Thank you for the great inspiration.
Love these so much going to store to buy everything and start making some. Great tutorial.
So very cute. I am going to get my granddaughter to help me make some as gifts for Christmas. She is 14 and a big help. Arthritis and joint pain make crafting a challenge, but I am fortunate to have her help. Thank you!
You are blessed to have a good helper!
So flippin cute!! Thank you.
Love them. Thanks.
