- Even the horror greats have some blemishes on their filmography. John Carpenter has Ghosts of Mars. Tobe Hooper has Crocodile. And Wes Craven has a werewolf venture that reeks of having a troubled production. So we're getting into all of the CGI Werewolves, replaced actors, and forced ratings change, as we look at how Awfully Good is Wes Craven's Cursed.

The moment where the werewolf, which looks pretty good, gives people the middle finger was the best part of the movie
Isn't it the part when Cristina was telling the wolf she had fat thighs and a small a$$ then the wolf says something like b!t€# n flicks her off 😂😂lmfao
I kinda liked it, but I like bad movies 😂
"She's got a bony ass, and fat thighs, and bad skin."
"LIAR!!!" 🖕
YES!
This was a core memory from the 00’s and it was what I was looking forward to the most on my rewatch in the 2010’s 😂
They just couldn't let Wes Craven do his thing....... shame
It's a Scream movie but instead of Ghostface it's werewolves.
I’m still hoping someday they’ll put together the original cut (as best they can) and release it as a special edition. The footage still exists so it’s possible.
The original ending was never filmed so that is a problem!
I can’t be the only person who likes this movie 😅
This waaay better than my soul to take !
Cant they finish the ending as animation and then make the last scene jessie eisenberg waking up and its all a dream
@@davidhope5713 Problem is the actors have to agree to do it! Also who will pay to finish that version of the film!
That parking lot scene made me terrified of underground parking lots at night forever
Release The Craven Cut !
Guilty pleasure of mine. Would love to see the original cut.
Don't throw Shade at Crocodile. It's a hidden gem.
I concur.
I got it as a fipper disc with another movie (possibly Octopus - I can't check as I'm at work at the moment), for about a quid many years back, and was pleasantly surprised. One of my favourite blind buys.
The first ending they filmed during the reshoots was apparently a more emotional ending with Jake begging for Ellie to kill him and put an end to the wolf curse. That ending was received positively at test screenings, but the Weinsteins demanded they change the ending to the version we know today, with Jake being a surprise villain at the end . . . for some reason.
This and Stallone's Cobra need original longer cuts. And Michael Mann's The Keep also.
There's an unrated version that has all of the gore in it.
When i was younger, and this was released, i kinda liked it. I can see how much of a mess it was now, but it's still a guilty pleasure. Just wish they had more of the siblings doing werewolf stuff. And that the story wasnt so convoluted
Same goes with my soul to take. But at least Wes ended with a high on Scream 4
The Werewolf you see on screen is a KNB design as Baker's stuff was dumped which is insane when you see pictures online of his Judy Greer werewolf which is amazing and super scary.
Hold up! Heather Langenkamp, Mandy Moore, and Corey Feldman was the original cast members? That information is new to me.
"Ghosts of Mars" is no blemish, Sir. 👍🏿
What about Atuk? Even before the movie gets made, the leading star ends up passing away, John Belushi, John Candy, Chris Farley… The list goes on. Course it’s not a horror movie but just wanted to put that on the table.
Jim Belushi is still alive. I think you mean his brother John.
@@SupremeGreatGrandmaster you are correct, I will my edit my erroneous comment
the unrated version made it a little better
My friend and I got to see a sneak peek of this movie months before it came out in theaters. Most of what I remember different is less CGI werewolf, Mya's body in pieces on the floor of the elevator and Shannon Elizabeth dragging her ripped in half body across the ground. Unfortunately, the werewolf giving the middle finger was still in that and one of the things the review audience hated the most, us included. lol
I absolutely loved this movie growing up. And still do. So camp. Mya’s chase scene in the garage and death in the elevator is so good. Loved the sibling duo they were cute. And I had the biggest crush on the gay bully growing up and definitely helped me on accepting my coming out eventually
I totally forgot about this movie. Nice coverage Joblo, thank you. 😎
I'd love to see a workprint of the original film with Skeet Ulrich. With Wes Craven and the cast it had a lot of potential. When Shout Factory did their release of the film in 2022 they weren't able to get any of the unreleased material from it. It makes me think the footage is lost.
It exists, but there are a lot of weird and convuluted rights issues due to the demise of dimension/the weinsteins' company which is Shout Factory wasn't able to do so.
I do hope that someday the original cut can be released, or remade. I found the movie entertaining when I rented it from Blockbuster back in 2005 (RIP) but it clearly seemed like it had a troubled production, so I wasn't surprise when that was confirmed- as I had been eagerly waiting to see it since I heard about it in 2022.
Yes... I'm interested in seeing that version, do it Tyler.
It’d be interesting to see the original footage…. Hopefully one day it leaks….
The literal definition of a guilty pleasure watch. Wish someone would actually make the original version of this movie cuz the premise sounds 💯.
And thanks for this cuz I’ve watched a few BTS vids on this movie, but you still had some new nuggets here. ❤😊
Fangoria Magazine detailed the crazy making of the movie more than once. If I recall it correctly, they shot version 1 with the original cast and script, edited it, and the Weinstein hated it. They then shot version 2 with the new cast and script, edited it with some bits from version 1, and the Weinsteins still demanded reshoots, which in turn brought in a new edit. In all of this, CG was used to replace/alter most creature effects. It was never clear whether the gorier shots (I remember them being in the extras on the DVD when I rented it) were shot along with their tamer versions or they actually went back and painstakingly reshot everything. All in all, it took almost two years to make the movie we got.
I wish we could see the original ending and ideas, maybe threw animation someday, because it sounds interesting and cool
Just wanted to say as a fan of oldies the original version of 'little red riding hood' by Sam Sham and the Pharohs is actually a really good song and probably would have made a good little end credit song for this movie
Shoutout to Judy Greer keepin it real
Seems like you could say that this movie's production was....cursed. I'll see myself out. Good night.
you beat me to it by a day, well played 👏🏼
We want to see more of Rick Baker’s effects & the rumored Eric Goldberg animated opening
I’m pretty sure Omar Epps was originally cast as well. It’s like 1/2 the cast of Scream 1-3 either were supposed to star or did at least wind up with a small role. Joshua Jackson, Portia de Rossi, Skeet Ulrich, Scott Foley, and Omar.
I actually really enjoyed Cursed, lol.
I wanna see the Skeet Ulrich footage
Any film The Weinstein's and dimension put out that has the word curse in it is guaranteed to have a troubled production
I actually liked this movie and Cristina was 🔥
i genuinely love this movie so much
When the narrator doesn't seem to know or like that song, and the wolf call it opens with, I knew this would be bad. Though I enjoy the original.
@@grannyweatherwax8005 its a great listen right!? surely not that much of an acquired taste i hope xD
A perfect example of CGI v Practical effects. It's got one of the best movie werewolves in it when practical effects are used, and one of the worst movie werewolves when it's CGI.
jesse eisenberg is the carrot top of actors.
Yes, this movie did have a troubled production.
I woul like to have seen the original "Serial Killer that was a real werewolf" twist like in the first draft of the script
The missing cast members have always been so confusing. A lot of really fun actors just deleted from the movie...
I haven't seen this since I rented it from a video store.
But I really wish werewolf's would make a comeback soon since It annoys me how Vampire's & zombies have been repeatedly over used for the past10 plus years
@@mightybitchy yeah
The last somewhat recent werewolf movie that I know of was mostly about some blind veterans.
If I remember correctly I haven't seen it
The Uncut R version is pretty damn good. It’s out there but hard to find.
This is my alltime fav warewolf movie that everyone hates but it’s a fucking great time! I mean in London is better but this movie is sooooooooo fun! Love it
I didn't know this was a Wes craven film. I actually liked this movie. It's not great but it's a fun 2000's movie. Haven't seen it In years though.
The Entertainment Tonight clip with Skeet Ulrich during filming, that speaks volumes to the level of meddling by the Weinsteins. Filmmakers were either given carte blanche treatment or excessive levels of scrutiny.
I feel like any list of “worst productions ever” is rife with Weinstein crap. Those are the movies that should be remade or released as directors cuts.
My biggest disappointment with this film was no sexy Christina Ricci werewolf
Man I still have my DVD of this movie to me it was ok but damn I want to see the original version of it. I know that their is an unrated version but man hearing the info on what this movie could have been is crazy.
Stalking in a parking garage?
Why does that seem familiar?! Oh, wait that's how Rebecca Walters dies in "Scream 4", right?
I did not know West Craven directed a werewolf movie.
As a big fan of all the knock offs that came after Scream, I think it's really not as bad as people like to make out - except for the whole ending which makes no sense and is obviously tacked on. But like 5/6ths of it is fun!
I remember the first time I saw this movie was with two friends as a double feature. Enjoyed it for what it was despite it being a random werewolf movie I watched one Saturday afternoon
I actually enjoy crocodile over lake placid ...haha
I keep hoping that one day we will get the original cut of this movie.
I mean, people died on the set of 'The Crow' & 'The Twilight Zone Movie,' respectively. So, no.
I loved the gay character realization 😂😂😂 so good. Wish they leaned in more with that. Also love seeing the wig changes as the scenes went on, it's so messy 😂😂
I don't remember it being so bad when it came out, but whatevs
I think a certain type of horror fan who hates Scream and its influence, really gets off on talking about how this is the worst movie known to man. To me, getting upset because there's not enough gore and "what's the point of a character if you can't seem them tortured to death in intimate detail" takes away some credibility.
A guilty pleasure. I love this movie 😂.
Nah if talked about violance buchered movies in editing, then Sylvester Stallone's Cobra (1986) is the most one!
Seriously that movie needs a remastered original longer cut as even Stallone himself wants to go back and fix it.
This movie truly makes justice to its name😂
I loved this movie as a teenager!
Still a fan of this movie though it would've been nice too see what Wes had brewing before studio interference.
Yes I was fresh out of high school when this movie was released and I remember thinking this is nothing like the hype I remember when they were promoting it while it was still in production. Now I know why. Smfh. I would definitely want to see an episode of WTF unmade about this
This and many other movies make me glad that Harvey Scissorhands isn't in the film industry anymore.
Just about on the same level as an American werewolf in Paris.
it needed to be more like the lost boys and ginger snaps becouse it is trying to be.
No CGI werewolf transformation.
The movie also needed the main werewolf to fully transform at the end and have a fight with the sister who turns.
I know it’s bonkers but I grew up on this one…loved it mostly
That car crash was almost as bad as the one in Jack Frost
I like this movie, it's so stupid good. When the werewolf gets pissed because she has a skinny ass, and flips the bird.
i loved this movie growing up , i never took it seriously.
When I Saw Cursed My Reaction To This Movie WTF That's All I Have To Say. The CGI Werewolves Are Torture To Sit Through It . This Should Be Added To The List Of Worst Werewolf Movies Along With The Wolfman Reboot And An American Werewolf In Paris.
Stop lying lol you’re opinion is this simply because people shit on the movie lol stop trying to fit in and have your own opinion
I don't think it's that bad of a movie. The R rated version is a guilty pleasure of mine.
I must be on a minority but I do like this movie a lot
I wish a Director's Cut
That would never happen though
I love almost all Wes Craven's movies, this one included
I have it in my collection and watch it once or twice in a while
There is a unrated version on DVD which shows all the original killings. If you find it it had a RED cover as opposed to the original blue cover.
I still love this movie but wished waited one year on production too have late night with “Craig Ferguson” lol
But Craig K plays basically himself, a narcissistic, sleazeball, womanizer. Craig F couldn't play that back then. Unfortunately now he's turned into yet another over the hill white, male comedian claiming "they" won't let you be funny anymore. Breaks my heart.
At least there is an Unrated version.
I enjoyed cursed but it definitely had its flaws. Now I want to see the work prints.
Omg do the WTFH for this please
I still love this movie lol. The cursed production makes it all the better.
You spelled Lon Chaney's name wrong.
I enjoyed Cursed. It's a good movie to me.
With a titled called cursed. What could go wrong lol
Aside from the CG, the werewolf design was awesome. Rick Baker was finally able to make his anthropomorphic werewolf. Studios have _never_ learned, that going with ho-hum cg effects are usually always a terrible idea. Just a few years after a film's release, it already looks distractingly dated beyond belief. Practical designs (GOOD practical designs) will always stand the test of time. CG usually does not.
Ghost of Mars kicked ass
This movie was awesome and will always be awesome to me. I don’t got to try and fit in by repeating nonsense critics say
the original movie sounds awesome. wish we had gotten that instead of this
What happened to this movie is such a travesty. It irritates me to no end.
I thoroughly enjoy this movie
Lol I loved this movie as a teen
So you're saying this production was cursed from the get-go? 😜
This movie is so dope
Studios have always stuck their nose in and ruined films. One great example is with The Godfather. That studio didn't want Al Pacino or Marlon Brando in the film. The director had to fight to have them in it. Imagine that!
Poor Judy Michael Myers killed her because of the bad Werewolf movie.
@@mightybitchy ikr
🤔
19 fucking months to edit this movie!!?? WTF!!!.... never saw it and i dont think i ever will!... but i recently saw Malicious, Tyler if you talk to John, tell him so random dude on YT liked the movie 😉.... even if i had no idea whats John character was doing in the movie, probably some BTS BS but a 5 min explanation would've nice!?
@@mightybitchy Dude there's a fucking difference between a big budget movie made a legend at the peek of his craft and a guy who's starting his career has a filmmaker with a very low budget!!!.... come on man, be smarter!!!.... back in the day, when i watched the NBA and the BULLS were on, i expected at least 30 points form MJ, not the dude that came off the bench in the 3rd quarter!... what's the matter with you!
Bullied by Peter peroli that's bad.
wait?.....we hate ghost of mars?
I will rather watch Ghost of Mars and Crocodile then ever put on this bag of trash. Wes sure screwed up on that one. And sure you can blame the Weinstiens but Wes(RIP) is part to blame himself. Man what a terrible film. And that scene with Mya in the parking garage is just Scream but with a cgi werewolf
Yeah, nothing messes up a movie quite like Studio interference. It makes you wonder, what is the point of even having a director with a vision, if these talentless pencil pushers are going to come and chop it up later.
I actually kind of liked "Cursed"
