  • Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi is a set of Qigong exercises which is based on the philosophy of Tai Chi and extracts some of the best movements from the Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. It places emphasis on synchronizing the 18 movements with proper breathing techniques. It is a gentle, beautiful and flowing Qigong exercise routine that is both a joy to do and deeply relaxing.
Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi is designed to improve the general health and wellbeing of the practitioner. The gentle rocking motions and stretching movements improve circulation and digestion. The chest exercises and controlled breathing are good for lung conditions and asthma. And the overall effect of the exercise is to reduce mental stress and physical tension carried in the muscles of the body. This Qigong is very effective and easy to learn. The gentle movements doubled by the rhythmic breathing are suitable for people of all ages as it does not put too much stress on muscles and joints if done correctly and can be practiced sitting or standing. It is practiced around the world by over 10 million people, and is considered a national health exercise in Malaysia and Indonesia.

I have tried several times over the years to learn Tai Chi, but I just couldn't seem to get it. The movements felt forced. I found this video tonight and gave it a try. Well, I'm very happy say that this just flowed so beautifully. The music is very relaxing and I found myself following the movements easily. I will continue to do this daily. Thank you!

Interesting point of view. The Tai Chi (Chuan) movements feel forced because you force them ;-) This form is also called the 1 sqm Tai Chi form. It's actually the same kind of movements as in Yang style Tai Chi Chuan, but simplified and without steps. If you really want to learn Tai Chi, you should not place the responsibility for not getting it right on external factors. If you learn this form correctly, you will also be able to learn Tai Chi Chuan correctly. Else, you end up just mimicking the movements, and yes, then Tai Chi Chuan movements will feel forced. Even mimicking the movements will give you some health benefits, but only a fraction of their true potential. The essence of all Tai Chi is internal, and is not found in the external movements. It's about HOW you exercise the movements, not the movements as such.

@@romedbucher2854 I've only done it on CZcams, and even though I'm sure I make mistakes, just slowing down and making myself stay for the duration is hugely beneficial. I do it before bed, really helps me unwind. How can I learn more about what you refer to, the internal stuff? A friend said when you do it a lot, it helps you heal inside. I'd love a private teacher as haven't really got the stamina to stand for one hour in a class.

    • @romedbucher2854
      @romedbucher2854 Před rokem +4

@@rosyarmitage8164 You're absolutely right. Even a few minutes a day, even with lots of mistakes, will make you feel better. That is the case for literally any kind of exercises, but Tai Chi and Qi Gong are more efficient than most other exercises. The "internal stuff" is basically the coordination of breathing and visualising/meditation with the movements, and that promotes healing even more than physical exercises alone. Tai Chi practise will among other things also improve your aerobic stamina, even though you never do any aerobic exercise.
This video here is great for Tai Chi Qi Gong.
There are many good teachers you can learn from on CZcams, check Michael Gilman, he's the best Tai Chi teacher I can imagine, and he puts all his knowledge on CZcams for free, not least a complete course of the Tai Chi Yang form.

I watched this video some years ago. In between, I practised Qigong.
Now, I see this video. Today, I see so much more in the video. I recognise that my perception has transformed. I realise that I have changed. I am thankful, seeing that over the years there has been healing. I did not see it until I watched this video. My body started kinda copying the sensation of the movement without moving.
I can sense the result now.
Also I think that the music is just perfect for this movement.
    Inspired peace.
    Thank you.

I was introduced to Shibashi through religious sisters of the Good Shepherd. Practiced the exercise decades now though when I turned 60 I became lazy, did the exercise off and on. But by this time the 18 movements are already a muscle memory. I do it now to slow down before sleeping. Now I am 76 years old. I returned to Shibashi because I had a mild stroke. I did not lose mobility however movements have become uncomfortable especially in the morning. I do the 18 steps upon waking to awaken my muscles and push movements beyond discomfort. I do 7 counts of each. I still do the cooling and slowing down after dinner using Shibashi. I am back to my normal activity and chores.
      Shibashi do work.

Why can't I feel the qi ball? I've followed this tai chi numerous times because I love the meditative flow but I've only felt the qi ball once

Just be patient, some students took a few years to feel that.

@@TaiChiQigongShibashi thank you for your reply and insight. I realize I'm probably being impatient and frustrated. It was a surreal and exciting experience to feel the Qi and I was confused and saddened that I could not feel it after subsequent Qigong sessions. I will continue to practice patience

Stephen, here are some practices I found most helpful to feeling the chi in my palms progressively more consistently, and over time, to experiencing intermittently an exhilerating/euphoric/goosebumpy sensation throughout most of my body at times while doing Qigong! First and foremost, I had to develop the the ability to move effortlessly. There were weeks that would go by without feeling the Qi in my practice, and I eventually learned to reverse this by re-establishing a consistent focus on moving like a cloud consistently during my practice. It is not so much the exact movement that matters, it is the effortlessness. Every muscle in my body must be kept relaxed to maximize the energy flow and the Qi sensation. It is sensational to have your whole body buzzing with this healing energy. I hope you can persevere! A cool air temperature helps maximize my Qi sensation, not shivering cold, of course. Being outside, morning sunrise, a gentle breeze, singing birds, a skilled teacher, and a dedicated group all are helpful for me. At the same time, practicing with a gentle fan breeze by a window at night, all alone, with an excellent video like this one also can greatly help bring about a powerful experience with a strong sensation of Qi Energy. Oh, when I stand in the WuJi posture like Wing Cheung has us do early on in this video, I am careful to have head, shoulders, and hips aligned over my heals, and my elbows(this is crucial!) out a couple of inches from the side of my body. I can seriously feel a much stronger energy in my palms when I maintain a bit of space between my arms and my sides all the way to the top through my entire practice, and beyond. Trust, and take great joy in the journey!
