He's not wrong. The fact that in ffxiv you don't have to deal with trash, you wipe and you can pull again without downtime, is such a good change with what wow used to be, even alliance raids are not that painful in that regard. Even when they add the option to spawn at the start of the dungeon (forgot what expansion), still is a huge difference and easy to get spoil by that
XIV downtime is the cutscenes. It would be great if the CD reset while you’re in it. That’s part of why they avoid having extremely long oGCD abilities. Though, on the other hands, it would be nicer if buffs aren’t turned off when you enter cutscenes or downtime in the middle of the fight and boss transitions.
Its true though. ff14 does away with so much bullshit thats just there to annoy you for no reason whatsoever that every other game feels inferior. Ff14 has its annoying things as well (like unskippable cutscenes in raids) but those things are nothing when compared to the tedium of WoW.
As an FF Andy who hasn't really seen any WoW raid content before I was expecting the gameplay to be lightning fast with the way a lot of WoW players talked about FF's 2.5s GCD being the worst thing in the world. But this felt like slow motion

We banter a little, do some gestures, sometimes do dungeons or whatever; but it's a neat little social place where a bunch of strangers have fun. In WoW this barely happens because most of the gestures and things you could do have to be through sheer text* shitposting alone. More of a "I hope the bois can read me" than actually walking up and just waving to them
You never know what outdated game design is until you play a different game to compare it to, trash mobs and walking simulator does NOT add to difficulty...its just there to waste your time, if trash mobs have mechanics then sure it adds to difficulty but it doesn't and that's why its a waste of people's time.

This viewing experience made me appreciate some things. In WoW: Guild Summon, Mass Resurrection (+Soulstone), both of which were removed for making the pull to pull raid experience too pleasant In FF14: Loading and respawning straight into the instance, with cooldown resets being added for QOL Can't even say FF14 is spoiling with goodness because, you know what, we had good raid QOL in Cataclysm. They just removed it because reasons.

It really looks absolutely awful, and LAZY. Not to mention inmersion breaking.
Meanwhile, the Suzaku trial in FFXIV clearly shows what’s happening, is fun and dynamic, and even gives the player a DDR mini game to accomplish during phase transition that gives you a damage buff

It flies up to the top platforms and does a raid wide non-los AOE that hits the whole raid if there is no tank there to pick it up if I remember right. It has been like 13 years.
Basically occasionally flies to a spot and spam casts a room wide AoE until it's re-engaged by a tank. Literally just rinses and repeats that until phase 2.
The Idea with alar and why people can assume its bugged is because The fight is being done wrong. **IN TERMS** of how most guilds do it 1: For Phase 1 The idea is to bring 2 non pally tanks, druids and warriors do this boss just fine. Most guilds lust phase 1. Its ideal to get alar into phase 2 as quick as possible. Al'ar will bounce 3 times "usually" before flying across. (atleast thats what happened to my guild) We had. When flying across the room he then summons adds. (thats where the pally tank comes into play) 2: The raid doesn't realize that quills actually is not only for the top plat form but basically all around the very edges of the bottom platform. DBM actually baits u here because you gotta actually look for when al'ar actually flys to the middle of the room. 3: when al'ar "bugs" in phase 2 its not because its bugged and if it was it was still a wipe becuase when al'ar spawns in p2 he knocks EVERYONE back whoever is literally on that blue circle. The raid is suppose to group up and the tank stands in front of them to be ready to taunt al'ar when it spawns tldr: pallies cant tank al'ar. melee need to chill whenever al'ar leaves each platform. (not a threat reset but will melee whoever is closest), run down if quills happen, move out phase 2 b4 spawn. stack for divebomb, let pally tank all the adds (DONT KILL) and just focus boss. It takes 3-5 pulls to get used to imo

Yes ofc right now belive friend said he reach with WL 1.5k dps by Al ar what is good he told me other reach arround 1.7k but back in 2007 you was happy if your wl deal 1.0k - 1.5k(was your top players back) dps that it. Now you have atleast 3 or 4 WL that know what to do dealing atleast 1.5k dps and the other dps above 1k ofc you see less abilites of a boss fight and deny less bugged shit.

While playing WoD, the friends I raided with all stopped playing, so I took a break from WoW and ended playing FFXIV until the .3 patch of legion. When I returned some of my friends where playing and I quickly got caught up to current raiding. But everything just felt off, I just couldn't get back into it in the same way anymore. When Asmon took a break from WoW I had some suspicion that some parts of WoW would start feeling dated to him as well.
I've switched to ffxiv, and actually haven't played WoW a whole lot other that this last expansion until I got burnt out on raiding again... and I've mostly played single player games since Cata released. Anyway, I say all this so you don't think I'm just coping, but TBF this find is like 13-14 years old?

And while there's something to be said for preserving this old stuff and making it still playable (I'm a huge proponent of game preservation efforts, personally), years of progress in design can highlight the flaws in old design and may just not seem fun anymore after you've seen things done better by later games and updates.

16:22 EverQuest raids with 100+ people was the shit. Voice was used but channels had passwords for officers and raid leaders to keep it organized. The largest raid I ever participated in was around 125+ characters in two raid forces doing a full clear of Plane of Time. By the time Quarm went down half the raidforce was drunk. KC

Players wanted pre-nerf. Wow devs took that as "oh ok, so don't fix any pre-existing bugs, got it. I'll just take the month off." I love tbc and I play tbc hours on end, and have cleared multiple bosses on day one of Phase 2 release. But you have to look at for what it is. They could've released the bosses pre-nerfed and still fix the A'lar bugs. They were just too lazy to do anything.
And yeah the downtime was brutal, it was like 6 pulls in 2 hours. That's a World First pace... if our bar for World First is how long Method would take to do pulls. ;D

I assume the reason everyone kept dying to the top layer AOE was because of how the jumping worked. I know at least into WotLK, "your position" is where you last touched the ground. Jumping down would see you as "up top, in the aoe" until you actually landed "on the floor", no "in air" position changes.
Ahh, so it's like a "screenshot" type of attack. Sorry to bring up FFXIV for those who want nothing to do with it, bit it's like that one attack from Sephirot where the floor flashes yellow and the attack hits where you stood during the flash, so you have to move fast to avoid damage and debuff.

I remember pathing though some places and jumping over the "agro zones" for the edges to not pull things running by. Like in FF14 if you see a zone and "jump" out of the zone, but the AOE went off before you hit ground you would still be marked inside the AOE because you didnt land.

@@ArilandoArilando al'ar's behavior is inconsistent. She doesnt aggro properly, sometimes she just doesnt do mechanics like the feathers while other times doing the same mechanic too many times. Knockbacks dont always work. There are a lot of bugs from the original BC release. I dont know how many are actually in BCclassic though.
Mcconnell fails to understand that alt-tabbing to COOKIE CLICKER is not going to entertain 20k viewers once Asmon dies. It's like a streamer suddenly falling asleep mid-stream because narcolepsy takes them when the stream stalls due to dying mid raid.
I like trash mobs in dungeons & raids. Not when done like this though. They usually contribute to your progress to the boss, the exploration of the location and story leading there. It's all about atmosphere. This is just uh... answering those questions but while making sure you rip your hair out as well... or face if you don't have hair anymore.

Sunwell: Another kick in the dick. Ulduar: Meh, not that bad compared to the other ones. Other games do trash mobs better, and I don't think you have to look very far from the content you see on this channel to know about it ;)

The fact that in ffxiv you don't have to deal with trash, you wipe and you can pull again without downtime, is such a good change with what wow used to be, even alliance raids are not that painful in that regard. Even when they add the option to spawn at the start of the dungeon (forgot what expansion), still is a huge difference and easy to get spoil by that
XIV downtime is the cutscenes. It would be great if the CD reset while you’re in it.
That’s part of why they avoid having extremely long oGCD abilities. Though, on the other hands, it would be nicer if buffs aren’t turned off when you enter cutscenes or downtime in the middle of the fight and boss transitions.

We banter a little, do some gestures, sometimes do dungeons or whatever; but it's a neat little social place where a bunch of strangers have fun.
In WoW this barely happens because most of the gestures and things you could do have to be through sheer text* shitposting alone. More of a "I hope the bois can read me" than actually walking up and just waving to them
You never know what outdated game design is until you play a different game to compare it to, trash mobs and walking simulator does NOT add to difficulty...its just there to waste your time, if trash mobs have mechanics then sure it adds to difficulty but it doesn't and that's why its a waste of people's time.

In their defense, the boss is bugged out the wazzoo per Blizzard. Rubbing salt in the wound, Blizz literally said they can't promise they will fix the bugs at all.

The thing is... It's not that hard. Killing bosses in a pug the first week without op gear is a pain in the ass, cause i dont imagine a lot of guilds having issues with these bosses playing with voice chat

In WoW: Guild Summon, Mass Resurrection (+Soulstone), both of which were removed for making the pull to pull raid experience too pleasant
In FF14: Loading and respawning straight into the instance, with cooldown resets being added for QOL
Can't even say FF14 is spoiling with goodness because, you know what, we had good raid QOL in Cataclysm. They just removed it because reasons.
My guess is to artificially amp the difficulty. Making failure more punitive as an way to slow down player progress.

The Idea with alar and why people can assume its bugged is because The fight is being done wrong. **IN TERMS** of how most guilds do it
1: For Phase 1 The idea is to bring 2 non pally tanks, druids and warriors do this boss just fine. Most guilds lust phase 1. Its ideal to get alar into phase 2 as quick as possible. Al'ar will bounce 3 times "usually" before flying across. (atleast thats what happened to my guild) We had. When flying across the room he then summons adds. (thats where the pally tank comes into play)
2: The raid doesn't realize that quills actually is not only for the top plat form but basically all around the very edges of the bottom platform. DBM actually baits u here because you gotta actually look for when al'ar actually flys to the middle of the room.
3: when al'ar "bugs" in phase 2 its not because its bugged and if it was it was still a wipe becuase when al'ar spawns in p2 he knocks EVERYONE back whoever is literally on that blue circle. The raid is suppose to group up and the tank stands in front of them to be ready to taunt al'ar when it spawns
tldr: pallies cant tank al'ar. melee need to chill whenever al'ar leaves each platform. (not a threat reset but will melee whoever is closest), run down if quills happen, move out phase 2 b4 spawn. stack for divebomb, let pally tank all the adds (DONT KILL) and just focus boss.
It takes 3-5 pulls to get used to imo

My friend said short yeah we actually abuse min max raid dps to finish bosses like them fast off there are other bosses with more ridicilous bugs still thx to more dps+ knowledge everything can be nuke fast and save the kill what would be back not possible.
What i want to say with this? Well that you should beat bosses without the huge dps incrase of final patch and play surive certain boss abilites. Yes ofc right now belive friend said he reach with WL 1.5k dps by Al ar what is good he told me other reach arround 1.7k but back in 2007 you was happy if your wl deal 1.0k - 1.5k(was your top players back) dps that it. Now you have atleast 3 or 4 WL that know what to do dealing atleast 1.5k dps and the other dps above 1k ofc you see less abilites of a boss fight and deny less bugged shit.

Even a Dark Souls game lets you get right back to playing the game more, even if it punishes death in other ways. There are plenty of ways to make difficulty and punishing defeat without preventing people from playing for periods of time.

While playing WoD, the friends I raided with all stopped playing, so I took a break from WoW and ended playing FFXIV until the .3 patch of legion. When I returned some of my friends where playing and I quickly got caught up to current raiding. But everything just felt off, I just couldn't get back into it in the same way anymore. When Asmon took a break from WoW I had some suspicion that some parts of WoW would start feeling dated to him as well.
I've switched to ffxiv, and actually haven't played WoW a whole lot other that this last expansion until I got burnt out on raiding again... and I've mostly played single player games since Cata released. Anyway, I say all this so you don't think I'm just coping, but TBF this find is like 13-14 years old?

And while there's something to be said for preserving this old stuff and making it still playable (I'm a huge proponent of game preservation efforts, personally), years of progress in design can highlight the flaws in old design and may just not seem fun anymore after you've seen things done better by later games and updates.

16:22 EverQuest raids with 100+ people was the shit. Voice was used but channels had passwords for officers and raid leaders to keep it organized. The largest raid I ever participated in was around 125+ characters in two raid forces doing a full clear of Plane of Time. By the time Quarm went down half the raidforce was drunk. KC

Ffxiv had that issue in heavensward where your cooldowns wouldn't reset on wipe. They fixed it and it's infinitely better.

I love tbc and I play tbc hours on end, and have cleared multiple bosses on day one of Phase 2 release. But you have to look at for what it is. They could've released the bosses pre-nerfed and still fix the A'lar bugs. They were just too lazy to do anything.

I assume the reason everyone kept dying to the top layer AOE was because of how the jumping worked. I know at least into WotLK, "your position" is where you last touched the ground.
Jumping down would see you as "up top, in the aoe" until you actually landed "on the floor", no "in air" position changes.
Ahh, so it's like a "screenshot" type of attack. Sorry to bring up FFXIV for those who want nothing to do with it, bit it's like that one attack from Sephirot where the floor flashes yellow and the attack hits where you stood during the flash, so you have to move fast to avoid damage and debuff.
@@SUPERSONICGIRLIFY No, its not the "attack" that is the screenshot, it was the "movement" of you yourself. I remember pathing though some places and jumping over the "agro zones" for the edges to not pull things running by. Like in FF14 if you see a zone and "jump" out of the zone, but the AOE went off before you hit ground you would still be marked inside the AOE because you didnt land.

@@ArilandoArilando al'ar's behavior is inconsistent. She doesnt aggro properly, sometimes she just doesnt do mechanics like the feathers while other times doing the same mechanic too many times. Knockbacks dont always work. There are a lot of bugs from the original BC release. I dont know how many are actually in BCclassic though.

There are still people that think trash is necessary in this day and age. This is why Trial of the Crusader was ahead of its time.
I like trash mobs in dungeons & raids. Not when done like this though. They usually contribute to your progress to the boss, the exploration of the location and story leading there. It's all about atmosphere.
This is just uh... answering those questions but while making sure you rip your hair out as well... or face if you don't have hair anymore.
I don't mind trash as long as it doesn't respawn, killing trash mobs once should be enough.

Sunwell: Another kick in the dick.
Ulduar: Meh, not that bad compared to the other ones.
And I can go on and on, SoO for example have a lot of trash but it kinda makes sense since it's a city, orgrimmar but still is annoying.

In every single example you listed, I dislike trash mobs there. They serve no purpose, even Hyjal. Hyjal waves were designed for a RTS, not a fucking MMO. It was stupid.
Other games do trash mobs better, and I don't think you have to look very far from the content you see on this channel to know about it ;)

No, that's how parsing guilds are. It's in every single video game that exists too. CoD? Competition to get the most kills. XIV? Same as WoW. All hardcore players feel like they're the best and want to be the best, and that goes for any game on earth.

@@cosmicalryu I guess I disagree because there's plenty of skill left in the game. Speed running is a skill, and retail definitely requires plenty of skill. But if you want to focus purely on Classic, PvP is extremely skillful.
