A word of warning to anyone with fine hair: you do NOT want to razor cut fine hair. When fine hair is razor cut, it ends up looking like cotton candy (no matter what color it is). It takes away the shine and makes it look dull and fuzzy. Trust me - I learned the hard way. You can easily do this with scissors - just use lots of snipping instead of straight, long cuts. Just make sure the scissors are super sharp.

watched this three times before trying it on my own hair with a shaving razor, and it came out EXACTLY how I wanted!! Anastasia Gr I find that no hairstylist knows what a scene style is, and that's because it was alternative. Not something they're taught.
If I had your combs I would probably get confused and accidentally pick up the razor to brush and end up shaving a big gap in my hair....

Been wanting that for years with no luck. Stylists don't seem to understand what I'm wanting. I'm too scared to cut my own hair but watching a bunch of tutorials is making me a bit more confident.
this is the tutorial I used in september of 2012 when I cut my emo hair for the first time. I looked like a mop, or justin bieber. Or the shaggy dog. I just looked bad, ok.
I do the same thing but with a shaving razor. It works exactly the same. (Just for anyone who doesn't have access to a razor comb.)

i really think this style of scene is my favorite! not too obvious and not too mild. I kinda have your hair. i went to the hair dresser, asking for lots and lots of short layers and more side bangs. i like the result but it was too messy. it was really choppy! like he just took safety scissors, took the top section and chopped it off. so i think when my hair grows out a bit, ill get that special hair razor & do it myself like yours! Thank you~

I just want to thank you for posting this video! I just used it to cut my own fringe for the first time, and I'm really happy with the results. I feel like my hair looks really good for the first time. Without your tutorial, I probably would've screwed up really badly and spent the day crying in my room. xD

AH! Thank you SO much. I have been asking for these bangs/fringe every time I go to a hairdresser and NO ONE knows how to cut them! I'm ready to just try to razor them myself and this helps a LOT! If I screw up it's only hair, so it's not THAT big of a deal to me but doesn't really seem like you can screw up much with the baby steps you take so that'll help a ton. Thank you! Now I can just do this myself instead of going somewhere and spending money on a haircut that's not even what I wanted! :)

I cut my hair like this when I graduated high school I’m almost 23 now and considering doing it again it’s a really cute hairstyle and I’ve been looking for a good video because no salon knows how to cut “scene/emo” hair and so far this video has been most helpful

I always sucked at giving myself a fringe, like REALLY BAD. But after a few years I finally did it, it turned out pretty great, I stopped a little past my eyes, I was afraid I would cut it too short & make the same mistake I always did in the past. So I’ll just kinda tease it up which looks better. So yay me :oooo
My NEVER lies that straight. It's a mess of wave and mostly frizz. Your hair is like, perfect. I worship it.
I personally like it better flat than teased.

oh my goodness, this is just adorable! I'm surprised that professionals can't do this same exact thing? even when you show a video to your hair dresser, they say it's easy as hell, and then promptly ruin what it took so long to grow out! Now you're wearing hats again, on top of having to wait another 6 months for it to grow out, and then take yet another chance, on yet another stranger - or try this!! I'm gonna!

How do you explain this to a hairdresser? xx
1st: Go to the hair dresser
2nd: explain to her what you want your hair to be
3rd: if you want to be scene/emo or this hairstyle, explain to her how many layers you want
4th: make sure to tell the hair dresser not to play around with the layers. (I'll personally say 3 to 4 inches)
5th: if not wanting to explain, just show the hair dresser the hair style on your phone or tablet (etc.)
6th: if it's not perfect the way you expected, you can always go home and touch it up
7th: it may not perfectly be what you wanted so you have to try get used to the hair style
Hope this worked out :3 yes, I have my hair currently in a scene way but I touched it up and made myself more how I wanted my hair to be.
The hair dresser was a professional but she failed.. But I asked to buy a few of their tools and yeah!

Easiest way would probably ask for a lot of layers all over and for regular like bangs but at an angle at one side. If all else fails, screen shot some clips of her hair from this video and take it into the hairdresser and show her so she knows exactly how to do it. :)

as a cosmetologist i would like to say that this is very accurate and well done. although i would like to stay that it is very bad for your hair to razor it while dry. but so many people on youtube do i dont think ive seen anyone do it wet so whatever but this was very good i liked it

one tip: don't expect it to turn out this good the first time you do it. you're going to have to try it, and figure out how to make it look the way you want. at least it grows out if you don't like it. :)
