there are quite a few folks doing compilation videos on youtube these days - but the quality of decent information and especially the narration (and the care you take with pronunciation) is exceptional with your videos and does not go unnoticed. They are the only ones I end up watching all the way through.

Regarding the first (#12), the well-timed visit to a volcano about to blow, I cannot help thinking of those poor research scientists when Mt. St. Helens blew. They were five miles away at what they believed was a safe distance. The very first eruption took them out to such an extent that they were never heard from again and no one ever found their remains. Since then I have always considered anyone going to view a volcano up close as idiotic, insane or possibly suicidal.

I was 10 when it happened, living in Sandpoint Idaho, fishing Lake Pend Orrielle. Amazing how much ash touched down and how dark the sky was, given how far away we were. Went outside the next day to collect some ash coating our truck. Roughly 2" of ash on it.

This 9:40 happens in Colorado as well, going through the Eisenhower tunnel. One time we were going skiing from the Denver area. It was nice, clear and sunny, but as soon as we passed through the tunnel, it wasn’t snowing, there was a full on blizzard over there. So crazy that if we had turned back, in a matter of a minute, we would have been in beautiful blue skies again lol

35yo Colorado Native: I can vouch for this. Yeah, there’s that old tired joke about waiting 5 minutes for the weather to change if you don’t like it, but any TRUE Colorado native knows dreads the season of wearing a sweater in the morning and regretting it in the afternoon. Also has supplies and apparel on hand, at any time, in every frequented area for all emergency weather circumstances. Except hurricanes. They don’t know where we live.

As a Colorado native, I totally agree with the sentiments here. Gotta plan for any contingency; gotta plan for any type of weather, which can change on a dime, especially in the mountains; carry survival supplies in your car, especially in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Yes, I know I covered four seasons, but there are really only two seasons -- well, three, if you count the Mother-Nature-with-Turettes that bookends 'Summer' where the weather is...fickle -- and that's hot, and cold...very often BOTH in the same day, and often more than once in the same day! If you're in the mountains (like where I grew up) it often snows September to September, meaning it likely will snow at least once in what would traditionally be 'summer' months. If you go higher than about eight or nine thousand feet (2430m - 2743m), you might as well bring warm clothes 'cause you might see snow. Just plan accordingly.

9:40 something similar happened to us in Lower Austria a few years ago. We have just crossed a bridge of the Danube River near Krems and then drove a road uphill directed north. The higher we got the thicker the fog became. I was just seconds away from turning on the rear fog light (which in Austria is only allowed to turn on when you have 50m or less of sight left) of our car when we suddenly got out of it and were greeted by a blue cloudless sunny sky. 🌄

It’s a perfectly normal rain shadow effect. The rain-bearing clouds are blown onto one side of the island and as the air descends on the leeward side it is warmed by the increasing pressure which evaporates the cloud. The difference in height between the ends of the tunnel in the example shown is irrelevant.

The gas coming out is mostly excess gas being vented from pockets to vent over pressure from oil drilling. The gas is usually tapped after if there’s a big pocket. A lot the gas is greenhouse gases worse than CO2 and burning it is the lesser of two evils.

Actually under a mattress is the safest place in a trailer. 😂 Seriously that’s what I did when an F3 came right for me and I couldn’t leave. After about 30 seconds under the mattress, I felt everything being picked up. I was being tossed and turned and things were slamming into my body. I just remember it being dark and no control over my body. I ended up about 100 feet from where I had been. Long story short, we lost everything. It was a miracle I lived. I had a broken arm, cuts and bruises all over and hurt my back, eventually needing surgery. This was in Alabama in 2000.

@@dr.stacey7283 Believe me, it was nothing short of a miracle. We always left and went to a friends house whenever there was a warning. But like so many, I had become complacent and thought it would blow over. Had my sons been with me I would have left for sure but my husband took them Christmas shopping and I stayed home to wrap presents. This was 12/16/2000. We lost all of their presents but I lived in a wonderful community. Friends visiting out of state offered to use their home until we could find something to rent. A Girl Scout troop brought us a tree and decorations. Parents of our sons’ friends took them clothes shopping. Strangers brought so many wrapped presents for the boys. To top it off, the local Red Cross held a Christmas party for children who had lost their homes in the tornado. I cried every time someone brought us something. Someone we didn’t even know brought me a dozen roses and gave us a thousand dollars. I worried my sons Christmas had been ruined but they had the biggest Christmas ever-and most importantly, both of their parents were with them. Sorry this was long but even though it’s been almost 23 years, I tear up when I think of all the wonderful friends and strangers who helped us. 🥲

Waterspouts are NOT just "tornados that occur over water". Tornados are spawned by meso-cyclonic supercell thunderstorms. A waterspout forms when you have cooler air aloft related to a disturbance (such as a cold front) moving over warmer water below. 2 completely different weather phenomena.
