I have same issue with my garage door it’s separating from bottom due to water damage. Now I will be completing this project on my own. Your Video was Very Helpful and Straight to the Point
Thanks so much for the Video. I have the exact same problem with the bottom section of my garage door. Could not buy a replacement section at a reasonable price. Very clever fix.
3:34 I'm doing a very similar job and used a method or two that you demonstrated in your video... Thanks! However, at this step with the clamps I also tied the wires down to lower parts of the garage door assembly in case the clamp(s) somehow slip during the fix. If they did (or do) slip, it would be rather difficult to get the spring-loaded bar rotated back to the appropriate position with the appropriate amount of torque necessary for the functionality of the garage door opener. I noticed you used the exact same clamps that I ended up using- and they had to be in the same position too. The metal clamp would only catch and inhibit the metal bar from rotating if it was clamped from up-underneath (visible as you had done in this part of the video). That being said, simply gripping that sleek bar with a clamp seems like a flimsy way to rely on keeping that spring-loaded bar from rotating. It worked for me as I used the exact same method you used. But once again- I tied down my wires with extra rope and string just in case that setup somehow slips. 4:52 I also found the bungie cords to be a very useful idea.
You really should first unwind the springs with winding bars. Until you do that it's an accident waiting to happen. Winding bars are cheap! Replace the springs with identical ones while your at it. See films on CZcams, plenty of info
+Some Videos Thank you for the interest. I chose to use poplar because it would be stable to keep it from sagging it still might need a small angel strap if it wants to sage a bit mine still is ok at this point.
Hi, I know your video was made a few years ago and I hope that my message gets to you. I have a four paneled wood garage door and I need to replace the bottom panel. Is there a place online that I can go to buy replacement panels? I've looked and haven't found anything so far. Or I might have to do what you did and make it. Thank you very much.
Also I think the panel itself has damage that - what would you recommend to replace this. You also used some sort of wood filler - was that to repair the panel - what did you use?
I wish you lived near me I need the same repair as you did, the door was "smiling" at me on both sides, Does anyone know of some handyman near 20878 MD and can connect me?
EXCELLENT ! I've watched videos where the cable was NOT disconnected. For the time it takes, this to me is perfect. Thank you

Nice! I’m about to do this same exact thing
Excellent explanation. I am about to engage this task. Thank you for the video.

I am inspired sir
Excellent video!!
Thank you. Great presentation. Ill start on mine tomorrow.
You didn't though, did you?
The outside is PVC and the inside is popular and at this time several years it has no water problems it has held-up very well.
I wish you lived near me I would hire you in a minute,, you were good !!!
Yes I wish I could help you I love doing projects like this.

Thanks for the info I always like to know better ways of doing projects.

@@TSPhotoAtlanta Really not necessary to replace the springs for this repair. There are safer ways to secure them, but hey, it worked.
HI PAul, thank you for this tutorial. Could just advice how you bonded PVC board and poplar together?
He's not saying.
Seems that a lot of details were left out of the video, but the results look good.
Thank you for the video. Why did you chose to use Poplar on the inside of the rail and PVC on the outside instead of just PVC? Thanks!

I have a very similar project - did you by chance create an
inventory list - how to sheet?
Also I think the panel itself has damage that - what would you recommend to replace this. You also used some sort of wood filler - was that to repair the panel - what did you use?
Did you have some rot on the panels and then cleaned these up - hid any edge imperfections with the molding? did you use calking at all?
It looks like you are using 1 X 4. Isn't the bottom a 2 X 6. Did you put PVC next to a nother 1 X

What is the cost to repair a door like this, same job
The cost at that time was less then one hundred dollars I think it well be somewhat more then at that time but still under a hundred.
Would have been good to show what you are doing instead of this. These type videos are usually meant to be instructional, step by step.
