    I've had my cover stitch machine for a few years, always terrified to use it. I bit the bullet today and went through the somewhat lacking manual and learned how to thread and do the basics. Came here to get help with techniques and find you! Just ordered your book. Based on all the great reviews, I'm very excited to read it and get really awesome results. Thanks in advance!

I currently use my cover stitch machine for hemming and for making decorative tees for the hubby. I have a Janome 2000CPX and I’ve used it to top stitch jeans. It worked beautifully on most of the seams. It was a lightweight denim but I finished the seams easily. But, I recently bought a hand cranked Gritzner vintage machine which I plan to use for top stitching on the really thick seams. It does sew easily through layers I wouldn’t dare to put through my coverstitch machine. And I will be ordering your book! Can’t wait!!!

      @Thelaststitch  Před 5 lety +1

      That's so good to hear that you got your Janome to work with jeans. And having one of those vintage power machines sounds awesome, sometimes we need those strong workhorses in these times of rather delicate regular sewing machines!

    I bought a juki coverstitch and really like it. I tried using the chain stitch to stitch seams of a chunky knit top and I'm very happy with the results. I'm now considering using the chain stitch to stitch the seams of a stretch woven with lycra (the samples are looking good so far). Has anyone else done this?

    I bought your jeans book a few months ago and thought it was amazing. Today your coverstitch book arrived and I can already see it's going to be equally useful. I've recently had an unexpected windfall and am planning to buy a coverstitch machine. I'm in the UK and finding it difficult to find many dealers who sell these machines. I'm also somewhat bewildered about the lack of machines that have a free arm. Surely without a free arm sleeve hems and cuffs are very difficult to sew?

    You mention the one-step coverhem for elasticated swimsuit hems, are you able to explain how to do that? I have never been able to figur it out without overlocking the elastic on first, which ends up looking a mess underneath when using the narrow coverhem to topstitch.

    Hi The last stitch, I have a stand alone baby lock cover stitch, and am working on learning the professional finishes for garments. I am watching your live stream master coverstitch in youtube video from march 2019. At 53 mins in you are showing a feature along the shoulder seams and the neck line. This actually has an additional fabric that hides the seam. Do you describe how to do this technique? I am particularly keen to learn this, to hide the stitching on the back neck band.

  • @dopesheepify
    @dopesheepify Před 3 lety

    I've been looking into combo machines that do the top cover stitch, and the options seem to be the Janome 1200D, Elna 845 (looks like the same machine), and the pfaff 4874. Looks like the only one of those still made is the 1200D, and it costs a couple hundred more than an industrial 5-thread top coverstitch machine by e.g JACK or tysew.
    Managed to buy a used 4874. It can hold up to 10 spools and can coverstitch with up to all 10 spools with different numbers of top loopers, it's absolutely crazy

    I had a CV3550. Worst machine I ever had... very finicky. Every critics you have for your Janome, apply for the Brother. After 15 months of hell, I changed it for a Babylock. Cannot be happier. Threading is easy and I don’t have to spend a minute trying to figure out the good settings for my projects. It just works, e-v-e-r-y times, first time!

    I always laugh when people make pronunciation mistakes - not because I’m being nasty but it brings right into my mind the funny thing I say when trying to speak German. I used to say to the waiting staff in a café” I would like a toilet” because that seemed to be the thing to say. Everyone was always very nice but I think the way I said it was like “ I would like a cake” ie I was going to eat the toilet....

    What is reverse cover stitching? You mention it over and over again.

    • @Thelaststitch
      @Thelaststitch  Před 4 lety

      It's when you stich from the reverse side so that the looper thread stitch is seen on the right side of yjr garment, it's used for a decorative effect and looks especially good with a 3-needle stitch
