The reason it was so easy to escape the quicksand pit was because the tub was like 3 feet deep, so they could just push against the bottom. Actual quicksand is deeper than that.
And they just used wet sand. Quick sand actually breaks the bounds of being both solids and liquids due to liquefaction.
if you noticed it when Preston said the door was locked in the lock pick part he pulled the door but when they apparently unlocked they pushed it open
