I was given the job of vacuuming and occasionally I grabbed the end piece of the vacuum and made lines on the floor so it looked fresh. I was awarded for vacuuming lol.
Give it about another 20 years and everybody's going to regret what they did to their houses and want this kind of design back. Retro is coming back full force, I would kill for this house!

I agree, I love this retro house, I would restore or preserve what in that house and add more vintage furniture, and keep up with the maintenance. There is plenty of living space for the Modern Family that home.

That mint green was awesome back when I was growing up. My room was painted mint green and I had mint green, 2”, shag carpet. It was ‘dreamy.’ I would love to go back and spend time in my room. The old refrigerator in the basement was 1950's vintage, some of the brands (Frigidare, Hotpoint) were so well made they will run for 100 years. Seems they got old, moved on, and the family is dispersed to far cities, or, didn't have the heart to clean it out. The wall treatments are like a comment on the era.
I have a Kelvinater from about 66"that still runs good. Grew up with a Crosley Shelvador ( first fridg with shelves in the door) also ran for 50'years but wasn't Auto defrost, a job that had to be done twice a year.
I would so love to buy this house if i had the money it looks amazing I’d have to get the basement taking care of as it seems the only area of the home that it really showed it’s age. I would have to completely change the furnace and add central heating and cooling.

Houses from the 60's and 70's were famous for bright shag carpet, flocked wallpaper, metallic wallpaper, pink bathtubs/sinks/toilets, pink and green tile in the bathrooms and cedar closets. I hate to tell my age but I was raised during those times. LoL

Hey shag carpet use to be all the go. Some had three different colors in it . Believe it or not you raked it so it stood up . It only lasted until you walked on it .

Hi Ethan! I’d love for you to show close ups of the old dishes, Appliances, decor and stuff you find in some of these houses. I love and collect vintage stuff so it’s so fun to see some of these items from When they were in use!
People will regret tearing down these places. If you wait long enough almost anything accumulates value and nostalgic rarity. All the T|iffany lamps people wanted to buy up in the latter part of the 20th c. were being smashed to bits as junk, and their lead recovered, in the '50s and '60s. Hard to buy a nice example now for under £100.

We had milk doors when I was growing up! So sad to think of this being torn down, a true time capsule, from someone who grew up in this era. 67, the Vietnam war was going on. That bathroom we first saw so psiodelic with the ceiling and walls decorated the same really enjoyed your tour of this house you are so passionate about that earrea and so knowledgeable you must learn so much each time you visit a new house. Maby someday you might write a book about all your adventures and that would mean even though the houses where demolished your memories of your visits would be there to pass on to a future generation.

If i had the money I’d surly buy this place, and give it a good professional cleaning from to to bottom i wouldn’t remodel anything within this place. The carpet throughout is beautiful wow!! The only thing I would do regarding the bedrooms are remove all of the beds now if there’s an amazing headboard/ foot board I’ll keep it and buy my mattress. The kitchen i would try to just app new appliances , but I’d like to get the made to look retro from the 1960s and of cause the laundry room would be the only modern room in the whole house

This is so bazar that pretty much nothing changed from the time it was built after living in it that many years. Usually people do some updating over time. However, I lived in one built in 1965 and they pretty much had not touched it except for new carpet in the den until we moved in 2000. These houses bring back so many memories having been born in 1961 and growing up in the 60's and 70's. I love these videos
Ethan- i grew up in a house with exactly the same flock wallpaper! The ‘ his and hers’ people were classics in my grandparents house. They used them for hand towels. I love this house. The pool down bar with mirrors and black lacquer.... a gem. Such a fi d I can’t believe it. Well done ....

This one was beautiful, and i'll bet it was really awesome when it was new. It's sad that people go into these places and disrespect them by going thru everything and just tossing it on the floor, it would be great if they go in to look and leave it the way they found it. You should however wear masks because black mold and lets face it any type of mold, when you breath that the spores can get into your lungs and cause major health problems.

Yes I do remember raking the carpet. My brother and sister would fight over who gets to rake when mom was done vacuuming. I was born in 69 and our house was built in 69. We had green, orange and red shag carpet throughout our house. We had a full finished basement with a bar. I loved that house.
Whoever lived here was obsessed with wall paper. I grew up in a late 60's house of harvest gold and orange decor, but this house takes it all to the extreme limits, then takes it even further out into the realms of psychedelic madness.
I don't think I have ever commented before but I had to take a minute to let you know how much I love your videos. I too am an old house buff. I love them all but turn of the century and mid century modern are my favs. However I grew up in the 70's and 80's so they are very nostalgic for me. Your a wonderful docent. That is more like 1975. I had that same flocked wallpaper in my bathroom in 1975. That queen headboard is 1950s tho. And look at all those hula-hoops! That's a big 1950s fad! The "early american" furniture in the "office" is 70s. (The 70s was my decade!) The flooring in the laundry room is 70s... You know, developers are dirty. I mean scum of the Earth dirty. They will offer you a ton of money for your house but even if you love your home and don't want to sell for any amount of money, the developers will threaten you with ordinances, pay off county/city officials to harass you and take you into court to try and get your house condemned or have you labeled insane. They're f*cking scumbags. People don't always take the money. They want their homes. But the barrage of legal actions the developers can bring against you if you don't take the money and go so they can have your home is unbearable. Developers have their own prime spot in hell, for sure. That Happy Face clock @13:47 came out in 1976 lol I had one! The fridge was from the late 1940s. Yeah...that green stove is late 60s. "Avocado Green". And that old brown couch was sold as a "playpen" couch...it would have ottomans with it to make it into like a big bed/lounging area. I'd always wanted one...they came in brown, rust and gold but I think you could find red ones. This was a great blast from the past...I could see some 60s in it but it definitely wasn't original. It appeared to have been updated in the mid-70s then updated a little more in the mid-80s. Every ten years... I'm thankful you're getting these houses on film. They're all so nice and take me back to a time when life was so good. Thank you SO much, Ethan.
The only nice thing about some of this mess is who ever bulldoze it. Will have to come in and get some stuff out. Like the refrigerators, just smile 😊 knowing they had to work extra hard to get this house bulldozed. At least that is what happened down the street from me.
The basement is the most original section of this house; that was pure '65 - curtains, deep aqua vinyl chairs, the sofa, etc. This place could be put back together easily. That fridge looks more early to mid '50s to me. Good video.
it would be awesome to have a fireplace in the basement! I live in Louisiana, so basements are not a thing here (not needed), so I'm fascinated with basements, especially ones where there's a kitchen, fireplace, etc. It's like another house inside of the house.

Sad to see so much left behind. Must have been an elderly person that passed with no family.
The person had family as there were bedroom/s that were clearly kids rooms.
There's not much value in what's left behind. Kids probably took what they wanted, sold house in as-is condition to a developer

I’ve been waiting to see a fur coat left behind in a cedar closet. First channel to ever find one from what I’ve seen. Wow. That looks like it’s in nice shape too. A mink or sheared beaver with fox or coyote collar.

My late gran had a bedroom set like that dresser in the master bedroom sucked that we had no room for it when she passed and were cleaning out her house , those suckers were HEAVY.

Yes I do remember raking the carpet. My brother and sister would fight over who gets to rake when mom was done vacuuming. I was born in 69 and our house was built in 69. We had green, orange and red shag carpet throughout our house. We had a full finished basement with a bar. I loved that house.

Same flocked wallpaper my mom had in her bedroom and she had a red crushed velvet bedspread with matching curtains.
Whoever lived here was obsessed with wall paper. I grew up in a late 60's house of harvest gold and orange decor, but this house takes it all to the extreme limits, then takes it even further out into the realms of psychedelic madness.
I don't think I have ever commented before but I had to take a minute to let you know how much I love your videos. I too am an old house buff. I love them all but turn of the century and mid century modern are my favs. However I grew up in the 70's and 80's so they are very nostalgic for me. Your a wonderful docent. That is more like 1975. I had that same flocked wallpaper in my bathroom in 1975. That queen headboard is 1950s tho. And look at all those hula-hoops! That's a big 1950s fad! The "early american" furniture in the "office" is 70s. (The 70s was my decade!) The flooring in the laundry room is 70s... You know, developers are dirty. I mean scum of the Earth dirty. They will offer you a ton of money for your house but even if you love your home and don't want to sell for any amount of money, the developers will threaten you with ordinances, pay off county/city officials to harass you and take you into court to try and get your house condemned or have you labeled insane. They're f*cking scumbags. People don't always take the money. They want their homes. But the barrage of legal actions the developers can bring against you if you don't take the money and go so they can have your home is unbearable. Developers have their own prime spot in hell, for sure. That Happy Face clock @13:47 came out in 1976 lol I had one! The fridge was from the late 1940s. Yeah...that green stove is late 60s. "Avocado Green". And that old brown couch was sold as a "playpen" couch...it would have ottomans with it to make it into like a big bed/lounging area. I'd always wanted one...they came in brown, rust and gold but I think you could find red ones. This was a great blast from the past...I could see some 60s in it but it definitely wasn't original. It appeared to have been updated in the mid-70s then updated a little more in the mid-80s. Every ten years...

The only nice thing about some of this mess is who ever bulldoze it. Will have to come in and get some stuff out. Like the refrigerators, just smile 😊 knowing they had to work extra hard to get this house bulldozed. At least that is what happened down the street from me.
The basement is the most original section of this house; that was pure '65 - curtains, deep aqua vinyl chairs, the sofa, etc.
This place could be put back together easily.

it would be awesome to have a fireplace in the basement! I live in Louisiana, so basements are not a thing here (not needed), so I'm fascinated with basements, especially ones where there's a kitchen, fireplace, etc. It's like another house inside of the house.

At the start that red shag pile carpet, the room with the wallpaper on the ceiling gave me vertigo. Staircase wax my favourite. Spot on with the dates.
