When Krauser approaching with the knife to you, you should armed with your own one. Then Krauser stop to make dashes around and begin slow approaching to you. That's a convenient opportunity to stab him. After that he will retreat immediately.
By a developers idea you should using firearms for medium and long distance, and a knife for close combat against Krauser. Besides such variant looks stylistic better about to Krauser.
