Ultralight And BFS Fishing With NEW Combos! Dobyns, TFO, Shimano and Okuma!

- We recently picked up a few new Ultralight combos that are in need of an on the water test! Today we are kayak fishing with these new combos. First up is the TFO Trout and Panfish ultralight spinning rod, paired with an Okuma Ceymar C-10. Then we have our new favorite, the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse casting rod, paired up with the Shimano Curado BFS reel. Both of these combos are amazing for ultralight fishing, and we had a blast with them on the water!

What is your go to ultralight combo?
Mitchell avocet rz
Kastking resolute with a Lew's reel. 6lb suffix braid to a 2lb fluoro leader
Edge EFX Pro finesse rod (UL/L), Shimano Aldebaran BFS reel and 4-6lb braid.
I rigged my old lews american hero 6'6" med is my "light" setup. 10lb braid to 10lb leader. Toothy beasts where I fish so I opt for a heavier leader
Will a MED/light xfast OR UL XFAST cast micro Zman and Ned’s farther?

So just upgraded to a lews lfs for swimbaits. Beyond impressed. After a day of throwing heavy stuff I tied on a leader and went the other way. Told myself bfs wasn't going to happen
I have the 7'0 version of the TFO. It's absolutely fantastic for all those ultralight baits. Brought an 18.5 inch largie on it the other day. Hell of a fight.

After a month of bfs fishing with a cheap $120 rod and reel combo from amazon, im in love with it. Having such a blast even with little blue gills and dinks. Even raked in a 5lbs carp i didnt want on bfs gear lol what the heck?

I have 2 BFS setups, a Conquest on a Phenix Classic BFS rod and a Aldebaran BFS on a MajorCraft Benkei Light rod. Both have light braid with fluro leaders.
My rod for this year is a Shimano Sahara 2500 reel with a homemade 7 foot rod i.made from a kit I bought. I think it's a medium spinning rod. I found out with the older reels that a 2500 spool fits a size 2000 reel so I actually upgraded it.

You HAVE to get the Aldebaran BFS reel. You have the Curado already, so youre almost there!

I purchased a Shimano SLX BFS have tried this reel, casts like DC model with light spool on the reel.
This is a cheaper Shimano but cast like SLX dc. 🤔😎🏅
TFO one of my favorite fly rods. Have a 5wt and a 9wt.
As far as other types of rods, I don’t have experience with them but I’m sure they are great.
They can always send me one to test. I’ll record it. 😀
I should add. The original rods came as a rod/reel combo from Cabelas. The reels are ok. They hold line BUT huge difference in rod quality.
I keep the Cabelas rods as a back up. But TFO is so much better. Eye -opener really.

I was looking at the Dobyns rods. They have them from 6ft5 to 7ft. What size would you recommend and what action? Like fast or ultra fast. I’m just getting into BFS. Also, I’m from Michigan too. West Bloomfield and Milford. Go Green
Go shorter if you have a sit down kayak or tight cover to fish, otherwise 7 ft is a good size. Fast or Moderate fast action is where I would go for a sensitive rod. Go Green, Go White!
