Your videos are really well made. It's so rare to find quality food videos like this when reality TV cooking shows have taken over. Please make more! hope you get more subscribers.
True food,,, i would be very happy if you could make a video about tropical fruits, i have a farm filled with any kind of tropical fruits, just imagined if you'd come to visit indonesia
Mom and her mother grew black raspberries and OMG they made the best jam and pies! Girl I am 65 and you have me inspired to plant some brambles this spring.
C Bentler Can you tell me how? Like, how to contain it and keep the plant healthy? I would really appreciate it! I'm an aspiring gardener, but I haven't done too well!
Avery Carreno well, I live in Canada so raspberries do rather well here. Give them plenty of sun, well draining soil that doesn't dry out super often, and prune them often. If you have primocanes then they fruit on new wood ever year. If you have the other kind, it fruits on 2nd year wood. Prune accordingly.
C Bentler Bro we grow our own in a patch too. They are delicate, but ours must be weird, cuz they don't fall apart as easily as the video makes it sound.
We have wild black raspberry on our farm. The quality is excellent with no inputs. Here , they grow where they are under shade for half the day, and they seem to grow best when they get early morning sun and are shaded in the afternoon. When we find a nice patch, we then go in and weed and trim it up and they give us more than we can eat ourselves, so get canned into preserves. They spread by the tip of the plant getting long enough to weep down and root in soil nearby, Easy to dig that plant if wanted for a new place too.
I don't know why Shirley made me tear-up, but she did!!lol Her approach and philosophy to this growing is just beautiful! And, of course, the video presentation was great!
The government should try to encourage people to eat with the seasons again it might seem inconvenient at first but it would be better for the environment in the long run
Great for people who live in Florida, California or other southerly areas with extremely long seasons. Everyone else gets to eat turnips and potatoes eight months a year.
My wife and I live in the VA mountains and they are everywhere around us. We pick a five gallon bucket full just from the wild ones on our property. We wash them. Then, dry them and freeze them separated on trays. Doing it this way keeps them from freezing together in a clump. Once frozen, they are put in ziplock bags and can be kept for many months. My wife bakes desserts and breakfast goodies with them. Raspberry pancakes are mouth watering. They are my favorite of all berries. Something about the sweet and tart flavor.
This is a totally awesome channel! We have Yallow Rasberries in the UK aswell. The best thing about them is they produce two crops per year. One in late spring early summer and one in late Autumn. One variety that is worth growng if you can get it. Is Fall Gold. Its been grown here for centuries and comes true from seed. It will also cross pollinate with Red and Black Rasberries aswell producing even more colours.
I live in the top raspberry-growing state in the USA, and when I was little I spent a week picking raspberries at a local berry farm. It was hard work for a 12 year old, and I couldn't stand even looking at them for a while but now I love 'em. It seems like only yesterday, but it was 49 years ago; time sure flies.
I don't know if current child labor laws still allow for such young workers, but it wasn't uncommon back then. A lot of people I talk to nowadays don't know that the reason for the long summer break from schools was to free the kids for harvest time. Spring break was for planting, not for partying.
My parents had a small farm like 60yrs ago in upstate New York. I could wander around the pasture to pick a pail of berries some years and pick more right near the house. Made the kitchen smell so nice.
Thank you very much for this video..Bought my first raspberry plant this year and this information is very helpful, especially "Shirley's quote: after fruiting if the cane is green let it be; if the cane is brown cut it down"..I searched and watched lots of videos about raspberries which confuses this senior...Hoping I'll be able to buy yellow variety this fall. My youngest sister and I are both looking forward to taste those raspberries next year.
Here's two tips if your going to grow raspberries: 1: The plants are pretty thorny, so they have a defense against birds, but isn't so fun to pick them all out... 2: once done picking, make it into Jam. Trust me, my mom once made this from raspberries our aunt grew and all I had to eat for about 4 days was Peanut better and Rasberry jam sandwiches. It's delicious, but I don't know how to make it... (There is probably a video in it) Anyhoo, great video!
They are a blessing from God . I have one little plant , in a pot and I don't have a garden , so I wil try to keep it carefully on the balcony . It's warm , it's already grown so much , and I don't even have especial caring for it . I love them . Thank you for this beautiful video .
My summer job when I was a young teenager was pickling raspberries for a neighbour farmer. We were paid $.0.10 per pint box. That may not sound like much but it was 1962. A good picker could make a few dollars a day which, when you're 14 was pure gold. The side benefit was, if you found a badly misshapen one, you could just eat it. The farmer was a kind man and good to work for. I must have been a good picker because he always called me when more berries had ripened.
Since your channel is about growing things, i guess youre going to like this recomendation: not long ago i made and uploaded a video to youtube about a tree, a fruit tree that lives in my backyard, and i'm planing do make a part 2 of it where i will show more about that is missing to tell; if you have a time i guess you guys would like to check it out. :) bye o/
NJ represent! When I would go to my grandparents house in Closter his backyard was filled with raspberry brambles. We'd go out in the morning and pick them for breakfast before heading out for the day.
We have so many raspberry plants outside that a lot of the berries just mold on the plant, the season here in Norway is short so we're usually away when they're at their peak
in India, we have mulberries which are a lot like raspberries but a little bittersweet tasting and much tart too. but most of the fruits are never eaten as they fall on the ground themselves and are squished or damaged. most of these are eaten by birds. they grow on large trees and the trees are grown for the wood of the tree
Another great video. In England, we only call blackberry plants brambles; not raspberry plants. I love growing raspberries but they often die from botrytis fungus.
Thomas McBride spray with beneficial fungus tea...the benefical fungus and Bactria form a biofilm which helps protect the plant. basically out competing the botrytis.
Haha! This is Mark, the other (British) half of HDIG... yes: this came up when we were scripting and we decided to defer to the host nation lexicon on this one :)
My grandmother would can hundreds of jars of raspberries every year. Almost every dessert included some and I never tired of them. My berry patch does not compare but l still love them right off the cane.
We grew up growing raspberries and it was my favorite fruit and still is. They really are super difficult to harvest. We ate them smeared on waffles or toast and it was the best food. Luckily we never had to use chemicals as we ate them within minutes of picking. But I just remember it needing such a cool thing to see them grow the following summer and we didn’t need to do anything to facilitate the next harvest
Great video. I am so happy to see how much ur channel had grown. When I first started watching ur channel it was tiny. I knew it would grow, ur perfect for this this. God bless you.
Can you make an episode about pesticides that are organic /non organic? Like where you go to a chemist /agricultural scientist and they tell you how it works? Also another one about preservation techniques and how they keep fruit fresh with science!
Its like I can't get enough of watching your every new video that I come acroos..your amazed me with your phrases.." hold your horses"" because it's needs super delicates touch."".May the Lord of host bless your channel to outgrow beyond your imagination.
We had a raspberry bush in my child hood home (in the city). In the summers we would get cups of fresh berries every day. From what I remember it was a very hardy plant. The bush just kept getting bigger and bigger :)
I've found that washing raspberries in a bubbly mix of vinegar and baking soda, effectively kills mold spores. Same goes for strawberries. Just leave it in there for 15 or 20 minutes, drain the mix, rinse with a bit of water and allow them to dry before putting them back in the fridge. Done.
Clearly the one channel that had helped me get proper sleep at nights in these horrid situations of Covid-19 all over ! I want to thank you for the amazing content and the lovely, pleasant background music, intricate details, calm description, very manneresque behaviour of the host, perfect pitch and an exceptional composition of just everything. Keep the good work, prayers from a Covid-19 survivor and a doctor treating his patients. All the blessings from India 🇮🇳✝️
might be one of my new favorite channels. hope you are able to continue with this production. it really would be nice having a Shirley nearby, ideal actually. Imagine if there were 1500 Shirley's all over the country, and these Shirley's each had 15 friends that were also specialists in their fruit/vegetable/livestock. Golly, we wouldn't need to worry about pesticides so much or unnecessary hormones in our food, we could cut back on food costs because we wouldn't need so much packaging or need for transportation. I think i need to be a farmer.
I love how raspberries can just grow wild sometimes. I remember as a kid just walking thru the neaighborhood and youd see these berries growing wild everywhere. just eating them wild.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND SO IS YOUR VIDEO! You're crushing it pumpkins! All the close ups of the raspberries (or drupelets, I payed attention) are making me really want one.
that was awesome I never knew a raspberry had to get chemicals to not grow mold! So now these days when people say stop chemicals they have to know why😁 and am so glad u posted a new video
I've eaten a lot of different raspberries in my time but I grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains of NC where there are two wild raspberries. One of them growing on a furry cane and have a beautiful red color, juicy and sweet. And another that grows on a smooth cane, often with a blue hue. Thorns I swear that have the ability of jumping off the cane and grab you from two feet away! :) But has a small black berry with a dusty cover kind of like a blueberry that has more mouth watering flavor than any other three raspberries put together. The climate in the mountains is very similar to the northern states and they may grow there also? But I have never seen anything that came close to them offered in any markets for sale.
Raspberries and Blackberries grow near and on the sides of the gully at the end of my road near the train tracks every summer and their super delicious :3
We had red and black raspberries growing wild all around me. I never had blackberries until I moved away and I thought black raspberries were black berries until just a few years ago. I couldn't figure out why I didn't like blackberries anymore! I'm hoping to bring some over from my dad's house and grow my own next year.
I only started watching your videos recently but I've got to say I love them, this one with the raspberries really brought a smile to my face cause they are one of my favourite fruits. I'm inspired to grow my own now! hahaha

I love her interactions with people. She's such a sweetheart!
The best show, I will not be surprised if you go on national TV very soon, success!!
You're too kind, Gerardo! Thank you for the encouragement!
Gerardo Vitale It does look more like a TV show than a CZcams show.
Gerardo Vitale I agree with you she definitely has what it takes to say the least 👍🏽
Some of their videos were in tv!!! Right?
TRUE FOOD - How Does it Grow? Your orange video was showcased in a segment right? I saw it in your fb
Mom and her mother grew black raspberries and OMG they made the best jam and pies! Girl I am 65 and you have me inspired to plant some brambles this spring.
I never buy raspberries from the store. We grow our own, it's so rewarding!
That's fantastic, and very inspiring!
C Bentler Can you tell me how? Like, how to contain it and keep the plant healthy? I would really appreciate it! I'm an aspiring gardener, but I haven't done too well!

That is so kind, thank you!!
Tangguh Satria Pamungkas what about all their other ones?
How could anyone dislike Nicole's videos? It is beyond me.
they were sleepy and tried to click the like button but missed and accidentally disliked the video
@@bird271828 easy - the anti scientific stance on pesticides is one reason

Thank you, Patrick! Means a lot from you.
A trick : you can watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Louie River Yup, I have been watching on flixzone for since december myself =)
glad CZcams recommended something interesting this time, loving your every videos
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you found us.

Mike Davey key word: 'encourage' not force
Do people in US grow their own fruit and veggies in their backyard?
Leon PRG some do a lot don’t. I grow some in my aparment

I see; that's understandable.
Thank you for giving so many people a peek into the beautiful world of growing things😃
I love this video! I live in Bridgeton NJ and never knew about this farm...but how cool was it to see my own town in one of your videos! 😊
The area in/around Bridgeton is full of many wonderful farms! You're a lucky girl to live there! Thanks for watching!
My grandmother would can hundreds of jars of raspberries every year. Almost every dessert included some and I never tired of them. My berry patch does not compare but l still love them right off the cane.
Oh, what an amazing grandmother!
I have raspberries growing right in my backyard. It is so nice when they get ripe to go out and eat them right off the vine.
March 2021 Shirley still runs the farm
Thanks for the video
I am so happy for all these women working on the field.

God bless you.
You are too kind, Donna. Thank you so much for believing in me and supporting this channel!
Can you make an episode about pesticides that are organic /non organic? Like where you go to a chemist /agricultural scientist and they tell you how it works? Also another one about preservation techniques and how they keep fruit fresh with science!
Great ideas! I can definitely do some "Quick Bites" about those.
Thank you Nicole for these awesome videos !!!
Thank you, Steve, for watching!

Thank you so much!
We missed your how to grow... I enjoy every information you are telling us
Glad to be back with a new one!
Hello 2021. I dont know why im so addicted to this Documentary about Fruits, Vege.
We had a raspberry bush in my child hood home (in the city). In the summers we would get cups of fresh berries every day. From what I remember it was a very hardy plant. The bush just kept getting bigger and bigger :)
I love these videos because these are the videos that show the fruits that i have never tasted. This vid is so satisfying to watch
Done.
So happy when I found you are making videos again. I loved watching when you just started.
Thanks for sticking with me!
I am growing my own raspberries in pots. Planted them last year, no berries, but this year they are producing.

I think i need to be a farmer.
It makes me really appreciate those that grow fruits and vegetables!

Raspberries are simply from Heaven. Perfect
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND SO IS YOUR VIDEO! You're crushing it pumpkins! All the close ups of the raspberries (or drupelets, I payed attention) are making me really want one.
Drupelets! Bonus points for you, sweet Will! Thanks so much for watching. xo
Will Carmack *paid attention, not "payed".
Berry-licious
I used to pick fresh raspberries from brambles with my family near Yucaipa! It was always so fun and yummy, but I would always almost grab bees
that was awesome I never knew a raspberry had to get chemicals to not grow mold! So now these days when people say stop chemicals they have to know why😁 and am so glad u posted a new video
Yes, if you want access to all foods year round, we all have to make compromises.
She sure is correct when she says chemicals are poison. Nice video. Thank you for this.
wow thank you a whole new world has just opened up for me.
I'm so glad!
