    I just ordered the Baldr-S, I have owned several Olights for a couple of years now and have been extremely satisfied with performance and reliability and at the price it hard for me to personally justify paying the extra money for the Streamlight.

      Same here. Olight makes quality products. I've beat the holy hell out of a few of my Olight WML,'s and they've been every bit as robust and durable as my streamlights, SureFire's, OWL etc.

    One of my favorite things about the Baldr is the fact that the laser is above the light (not below, like with the Streamlight). That helps keep it a bit more accurate as the POI distance shifts away from the originally zeroed distance. I own 7, including one of the new Baldr S. One drawback: lack of user replaceable battery. When the battery goes, it's trash, as a factory out of warranty repair won't make sense vs. a new (and likely more advanced) replacement. It also makes it inconvenient if your needs would require a recharge (or in the Streamlight, a quick battery replacement) in the middle of whatever you're doing (like a security guard using it instead of a flashlight--not necessarily a great idea). And I understand that getting the Baldr drenched isn't a great idea, but have no experience with this. But at less than half the cost (with the periodic 'flash' sales), it worked for me.

    That power level stepdown is something that has bugged me about the Olight WML's (Weapon Mounted Lights). I get why they do it.. but then again, as HarleyWood said in this vid, if you are in any stressful situation and your light starts stepping down in power due to the temp protection.. That 'could' bring unwanted issues into the mix. None of my other WML's (Surefire, Streamlight, Modlite, etc..) have a Step-down temperature protection. Olight needs to get that part figured out for whatever WML's they plan to release in the future.

    I just picked up the baldr S mini. So far I love it. The buttons are a little stiff, but that's a good thing since I don't want it accidentally activated. The white light is plenty bright enough. Especially for home use. And the green laser is perfectly visible in the dark as well as direct sunlight. I cannot complain for a sub $90 weapon light. It feels very well made and has yet to fail me. The weather is very crappy, so I have yet to go out and see how well it holds zero. Soon as I get a nice dry weekend, I'll put a few hundred rounds over it.

    Besides the giant price difference, I particularly like the Baldr S sliding mount. The tlr has strobe though, and that is huge. I know you have to “click set” the strobe function to work….so does that make it so the light will ONLY strobe when you turn it on? Or can you quickly toggle from “hi” to “strobe”? Again, if olight can add strobe….it would be the perfect light.

    • @DioRando98
      @DioRando98 Před rokem +1

      I've had one for a couple years and held a 0. way the light once you activate the strobe it is activated by double clicking the button very quickly and if you single click the button it's a regular light no strobe. Did you mention that my recent T alarm did break because I put the battery in backwards and turned it on it fried the motherboard looking PCB part inside but I'm still ordering another one.

  • @jasongaudreau2075
    @jasongaudreau2075 Před rokem

    So, the plastic and price is what drove me to purchase the Baldr S for my g45. Also, I picked it up for $97 shipped to my doorstep. I don’t particularly like the profile of the “hinge” on the olight lock system. Kinda sticks out when you look down on the slide profile, for sheath especially. I didn’t see the set screws until you mentioned them, so since it’s dedicated to that sidearm, I’ll set them. Would love the streamlight for that hinge profile only…but it’s not worth an extra $160 on top of the price of the Baldr S! If olight could somehow figure out a sliding lock instead of the hinge….it would be “perfect” in my mind. Until I get a chance to try the streamlight…I’ll never know. But in my case, even after scrutinizing and purchasing a Jude’s sheath fit for the tlr-8ag….I still ended up purchasing the Baldr S because the seller kept dropping the price on it.

    Olight really needs to work on there run times, I'm so happy you brought that up to them. Not to mention they start getting too hot to even hold after only a few seconds.

    • @lishawj8829
      @lishawj8829 Před rokem

      It is fair to conclude that if you are a service member you will likely want to go with Streamlight, SureFire, or Cloud Defense products. Olight is an excellent product for civilian use. I read a lot of complaint about runtime but a standard CR123A battery is rated at 1500 mah while the Baldr S is half of that, so it has half the runtime. My Baldr S on 300 lumens run for 37 minutes before shutting off (light+laser ON). That is more than plenty of runtime for checking the "bump" in the night and around my property. On the 100 lumens setting I have tested a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes consistently after months of medium duty usage. Using only the light feature on low consistently produced 2 hours and 30 minutes of runtime at 100 lumens. That is plenty of light for civilian usage.

    • @jajak8055412
      @jajak8055412 Před rokem +1

      @@lishawj8829 I agree that Olights great civilian lights. I'm a police officer in training, so my needs in a flashlight are a little different. I've tested tons of flashlights, and favorites are streamlight, Fenix, and Olight. Like I said though I would use my Olights much more often if the had better runtimes, otherwise they are fantastic flashlights.

    I have 2 of the Baldr S and aside from the price... I'm not really happy with it and planning to sell at least one of them. My major issue is the laser shifting around if you put any pressure on the light body. If you have a red dot on the gun like I have you will see the green laser (in my case) shifting couple of inches to the left of the red. dot or to the right of the dot if you push on the light. It is the nature of the clamping system and I do have the 2 screws under the gun tightened but I still have the shift. Also have another Olight Odin GL and the laser has also a shifting habit if you touch the light.

    By any chance was the BaldrS in its high intensity mode? I believe you need to double tap the on/off paddles inorder to switch between them. Its also why I think the Olight is better than the streamlight as you can choose what intensity the light is producing.

    I just had to choose between these two, and while I have nothing against the Olight, I went with the Streamlight solely because I would have looked like a fuckin’ dickhead shooting a Staccato C2 DPO TB with a $80 dollar flashlight on it.

    SET SCREWS (at 3:45) ... probable reason is that I have owned 4 Olight Baldr Minis and none of them would stay on either of my 2 Springfield XDS .45's. After one shot the ratchet rail would move all the way forward and then after 4-5 shots it would come completely off the pistols. I documented this, with video to show Olight and they absolutely "cared not" ... with the official comment, email reply of, "Sorry for the inconvenience." Anyway, I now run Streamlight TLR-7 Subs on all my stuff, Olight lost me as a customer. Perhaps the set screws fixed this problem? Perhaps Olight should have reached out to everyone who documented it with a box in the mail labeled, "Here, try this" ???

      I am sure it would have help you for Olight to recommend setting the set screws. My own experience with the same problem and initial inspection of the unit showed two unused set screws and I thought it was extras in case the adapter screws were lost. However, I noticed the device had a tiny bit of play after locking down the QD lock mechanism and started troubleshooting it. It dawn on me after an hour that perhaps the two screws are not extras, but are instead locking/set screws. I tighten both all the way down and VOILA the tiny bit of play was instantly resolved. My Baldr S has held zero after 2000+ rounds and it has been an excellent product. Sad, you did not get to experience the same.

    The bad thing about the Olight Baldr mini is the lever. When shooting a compact depending on the gun it could hit your thumb as you shoot.

    Rechargeable is a miss-understood English word. It means "Something that is inoperative when needed, but will work if charged" The Olight looks like It can take a standard CR123A and the dead weapon light in the nightstand issue can be negated.

      Usually that is coming from consumers that are:
      1. Against buying anything "Made in China".
      2. Advocate buying only USA made products.
      Do not sell yourself short and buy an Olight WML. I am formerly a Streamlight fan for their excellent products but cannot continue to pay hefty prices when Olight has the same quality for much less. I put Baldr S, Baldr Mini, and Baldr Pro on all my firearms and had to return only 1 Baldro Pro for losing zero no matter what i did to correct it. Olight sent a replacement and that unit has soaked up over 3000+ rounds of 5.56 and an additional 1500 rounds in .300 BLK without losing zero. If that is not quality, then I don't know how else to justify it.
