  • “No road car I’ve seen pulls like that.”
    -Mitchell Townsend
    Racelogic / VBox Technician
SSC North America has reached another milestone in top-speed testing, surpassing the previous world record top speed set by the SSC Tuatara in January 2021.
American hypercar collector and Tuatara customer Larry Caplin piloted his SSC Tuatara with Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at Space Florida’s LLF, Kennedy Space Center Merritt, Florida on May 14th, 2022, where he previously broke the speed record for world’s fastest production vehicle on the 2.3 mile stretch of runway. A top speed of 295.0 mph (474.8 km/h) was recorded by data and performance logging firm Racelogic with dual VBOX GNSS systems onboard the Tuatara, as well as a Life Racing GPS unit for additional data acquisition. Present during the top speed run was Racelogic technician Mitchell Townsend and independent analyst Robert Mitchell, ensuring extra levels of transparency and validation measures that SSC North America has integrated into its testing process.

Please take it to where Bugatti did their high speed test and hit 300mph. Would love to come see this top it... Been a huge fan for several years, would love to see the shop! We are usually in the area a couple times every summer.

They would, but Bugatti/VW Group won't let anyone go there... they don't want someone else breaking the record :/

Notice how they call it a "Roadcar" now. Rather than a production car. Because it isnt a production car.

Do you think its a "great job" that they only have 1 car? I would say thats a huge failure.

Well... This is a customer car. What they dont have is a prototype or a development car. Im not sure why they still only have ONE car after, what... 2 years of claiming woooorld records. I can only guess most customers pulled out when they got busted faking their spectacularly misleading world record claims. -- Which they have been desperately trying to redeem ever since. With multiple runs every other month.
Then their car, THIS car, got severely damaged after it fell off a transport. So I guess they fixed it. But yeah. These people dont have a car factory. They are not a registered car manufacture. They do not build cars. This car was designed and built in Italy at a LeMans racecar company called Podium Advanced Technologies. Which is great. They are experts. But they dont tell us that, do they. They want this to be seen as an all-american "hypercar" while being built by other people and is running on kit-car number plates.
This is their only car so far. So obviously ZERO crash testing. No emissions certificate, no federalisation of any kind. And therefore not a production car by any stretch of the imagination.

This car can go much faster then what we saw now on the videoclip; it has always gone faster then what many expected ; The fear of Americans beating the Euros was just to hard to fathom. I feel that media hype around the speedo was unjustified. Give Euro cars their due, sure in terms of perfection and drive the American are just as good. Maybe not getting the same media attention as their European counterparts because they don't do mass production. Would I buy the TUATARA ? YES !
