    My 2 Pennies as someone who is a passenger on the distance struggle bus.
    I saw a video talking about how McBeth keeps his weight on his backfoot until the pull through then explodes through that foot as the rips through smoothly and that when I actually remember to do it ALWAYS gets me more distance.
    I believe the video was from Slingshot DG

    Love your honesty and transparency as always. I turned 40 this year after working through knee surgery early in the year, so longevity is definitely on my mind. I shifted from my raw MPG quest to increasing spin and consistency, and my body's thankful. Similar to you, I struggled with letting the disc rip out after years of subconsciously opening my hand. I went from low 800 RPMs to 1000+ by focusing solely on that, and I indirectly started throwing farther. The "tip of the whip" is real 😂, which I should already have known as a math/physics guy.

    Hey man, real talk: You know I'm well aware of that frustration of 1 step forward, 2 steps back. But I'm here to tell you, what you're doing makes a difference. Your advice on head placement and arm speed has yet again given me more distance, (I had a jump putt on hole 5 at alabaster today)and I know you've yet to see it, but my putting today was on point because of your methods.
    It'll all come together man, and we'll be here to cheer for you when it does.

    That's a good point about reaching back to far. It's also a good reason to actually release the disc when throwing hard. Because if you're letting the disc rip out of your hand you are risking hyperextension. Thanks for pointing that out.

    I feel your pain. Sometimes when you’ve been doing something so long your body has already figured the best ways for you get speed for you. I had this issue with golf trying to get passed the 110mph clubspeed. Only thing I found that works when you’ve hit a wall is fitness. I’d recommend get in the gym consistently for a month or two, Lift as heavy as you can for 2 or 3 reps. Then once your progression slows weight wise switch to 5 or 6 reps as fast as possible. All the while doing 15 or so minutes 3 times a week of pure speed throws with tech disc. This worked for me when I was a pro golfer. Still trying to get my disc golf form to reasonable starting place but I’d say fitness is the way to go

    I feel for ya. I overdid myself during one field session and had to take 4-6 weeks off, then continued wearing an elbow brace for a month or two after that. You still have more distance than me - I'm consistently around +/- 200, slowwwwwwly increasing, but overall just struggling to figure out what's really holding me back. It seems like people can hit 250-300 just arming it so it's really frustrating to feel so feeble.

    As someone who has worked with several front leg coaches and coach T back leg is the only way to go just from a safety perspective alone.
    You’re flailing your back leg which is a sign you’re not getting anything out of your lower body which causes your upper body to over compensate.

    I think your upper body stuff looks great, but your left leg is working AGAINST the rotation and energy into the disc. If your legs and hips are closing it’s gonna hurt putting power into the disc. Try letting that left leg wrap around clockwise rather than counter clockwise and see what happens. 😊 excited to see the distance in 2024!!!

    • @Alexisking222
      @Alexisking222 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Really solid advice. Drew Gibson emphasized the same thing when training Bodanza. With Rob you can see his left leg travel behind his right, which has to be acting as an anchor for the rotation of his hips, rather than a tool used to help accelerate his hip rotation. Suuuper solid advice and great eye

      I wouldn't be surprised if his coach is teaching the opposite as this looks to be a counterweight style of throw where the leg is supposed to kick back.
      Different from what Drew uses.

    • @andrewcoffey022
      @andrewcoffey022 Před 6 měsíci

      @@ViJt-oq5nq if that’s the case I’m not sure what the benefit to that would be. That move seems to disconnect the upper and lower body, mess with timing, and decrease power, but that’s just me… ha ha.

  • @Alexisking222
    @Alexisking222 Před 7 měsíci

    Saw another comment mention this, but your left leg is traveling behind your right leg and is rotating in the opposite direction you want your hips to turn. When Drew Gibson was training Bodanza, he mentioned the importance of driving that back leg forward to aid in the rotation of his hips. If you can focus on using that leg to drive the rotation of your hips rather than countering it, I think it will really help with your power.

      If you've ever hit the gym, you'd know there are days you can bench 200, and days 160 feels like a struggle.
      It really does come down to how well fueled your body is. Personally, I like drinking a protein shake 30 mins before going in as the amino acids in Whey is absorbed insanely fast and provides consistent strength n energy.

    I'm not a coach by any means, but I watched your 10 O'clock video and this one to kinda confirm my thoughts, it seems to me like you are pulling through a little too close to your body, which would explain why when you feel like you get a good rip it comes out later because that is when you seem to be making full extension. I watched a few videos that kinda exaggerated the rolling in of your shoulder to make the distance of the 90 degree during the power pocket reach out a little further, which would lead to a more extended release when you hit that 10 O'clock point in your throw. just my take, obviously take it with a grain of salt, but I am curious to see what your coach would think about it.

    Quick fix on elbow pain...it looks like your hand is ABOVE your elbow. Hand dangling below the elbow is know to reduce injuries.
    Work on greater inward elbow rotation as a longterm exercise habit. This will reduce elbow problems when throwing hard.

  • @ViJt-oq5nq
    @ViJt-oq5nq Před 6 měsíci +1

    This is just my opinion, but this looks like you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how THAT specific form is supposed to work.
    That's the "counterweight" style of throw you see taught by Trebuchet Disc Golf. It's apparent based on your rear leg going behind you and the way you are coiling.
    It's an entirely valid throw, but it's meant to be thrown on HYZER because it has hyzer baked in.
    Trying to throw flat and straight is extremely difficult to do to near impossible, you trying to reach the disc back flat is showing this. It's probably what's causing the elbow pain, because you do have to get into uncomfortable positions to do it with this form... Probably also explains why the first couple throws were such rips but the more you tried to straighten out the more it broke down.
    Trebuchet has openly talked about this in his videos. You have to rely on hyzer throws n hyzer flips, and you will find improvement.
    I'd highly highly recommend you go talk to that guy. I don't even use that form, I use slingshot, but Trebuchet has a great understanding of that form, knows how it's different from others, and could probably tell you how to fix it if you want to continue with it.
    But if you insist on using that form the way you are trying to use it, you'll hit a dead end, which you have.

    I know I have no credentials and no one knows your body like you but, why would you do this with overweight discs in a distance trial? Throw what you are used to. Warm up with flippier plastic to feel the confidence of the glide them try to push it with your drivers. Also, I feel like a huge thing your missing with your distance is something almost all the big arm guys do is having their hips “raised” where your whole body feels like it’s moving from high through the walk through, low on the x step, and flat through the throw. I feel like the whole time you throw your hips are aimed into the ground and the only time you explode is when you forced your arm to do the work hence the elbow pain. But of course those are just my guesses

      It comes with age. Those young kids on tour have young, fresh and flexible hips so they are able to transfer a lot of power. Once you get older and aren't into sports activity as much as you were when you were young you need to bring that hip strength back and act more like an athlete and train to get that strength back into your body. Thats why plateaus happen.
