How did it work out for you?
For those with out a dremmel or who prefer not to use one:
A hole saw in a drill in reverse with a wood backing will reduce splitting the plastic. (works well on wood to for the starting cut)
Wow, I love the idea with the self created enclosed area made out of foamboard! I gonna order some foamboard and build this for my table. I was always wondering what the trick was to have a lying fog covering the whole board. Cant wait to try this out, epic :)

Thanks for watching! Creating atmosphere has been a big part of how I run games. I love being able to immerse my players in the world with all the exiting new tools we have in this day and age. Having great terrain can make encounters exciting, but nothing is going to be as vivid as the players imagination.

I think I may have found the solution for a low lying fog effect in my Uber minivan...thank you! The ground fog mixed with the Floorboard RGBIC LED's and the disco lights on the ceiling will really get university students in the party spirit when they take my uber

Thank you for the video! I want to build a table for my Kill Team to play night missions with a moon lamp and fog :) which fog do you use for the machine? I dont want my figures to get sticky or something :/
Thanks for watching! I use a water based dense fog fluid from my local DJ supply store called "Magic Mist". Whilst most of the residue is captured in the cooling chamber, there will be some on terrain after a few hours of play. After a couple of years of use, can highly recommend varnishing minis to protect them, but i've not had any get sticky. If you're worried about residue from fog machine fluid being too sticky, there are fog options that use vaporised water mist. Lately I've been using a reptile enclosure fogger, with the only drawback being some water condensation forming after a few hours.

Yeah for sure. It should work with any regular smoke machine. I typically like to go with a low powered smoke machine like a 200w - 500w

@@Zakethehero Ah ok, yeah sorry I see what you mean now. I'm lighting the whole board with some red dmx/Ambient lighting and it's tinting the fog. I'm using some PAR lights here, but you could use any kind of RGB controlled light as long as it's diffused. Some alternatives can be those smart bulbs or mini RGB led panels. Hi Sebastian, quick question, is there any reason why you placed the fog machine on top of the cooling container? Or is it just to save some space? I am just building the same one you have. So I am wondering if I should get those 90-degree pipes. TY! :-)
Ah yes, it is to save space, but it also is the first point of deceleration for the fog output. Deceleration is a big part of making the smoke heavier. The 90 degree bend gives it some resistance.
I already have a preset play area with an inset TV we use as a battle map. Would the smoke be a problem for the TV? If so what would you recommend to prevent that
Hmm, yeah that's a tough one. Is there a clear plastic or glass over the tv? If it's straight onto a tv screen, I'm not sure how it would go with the electronics. After extended use there can be some residue build up.

I've actually used this setup in our living room for a Halloween party, so yeah it's possible. Probably if you wanted to have a bigger spread, could use a higher wattage smoke machine.
i need a very low power low condensation fog for under a mini pot to simulate boiling pot and people are 3 inches. display area is about 7x7x7 inches a really small area. i need it to fog for 12-14 hrs. shut off with a timer and with no buttons pushed turn on again with a timer no aduino involved just timers can this be possible?
Tough question! The only out of the box solution i can think of (without hacking vape pens) is a running from fog from a little humidifier unit. That will give you a little bit of condensation, but it'll be a consistent rolling effect for long hours. If it's only a little bit of fog, the condensation should be pretty minimal
Awesome idea! I may be doing this for my game table.
A few questions before I commit though.
1. How much smoke leaks through the holes you drilled into the PVC piping where the smoke comes out of the machine?
2. Why exactly do you need ice packs? You mention cooling but does that mean the smoke comes out of the machine hot?
3. Would laying the ice packs down flat have the same effect but give better air flow? If not laying them down but securing them flat under the top (heat rises)?
4. How loud is the machine? This is important during game play as sometimes the background sounds can be important.

Some answers!>
1. Barely any smoke comes out through the drilled holes when puffing because of the venturi effect drawing it down the pipe. Optionally, you could have the pipe with no holes drilled and a space of an inch to achieve the same effect, but personally i like that it connects to keep it all together.
2. Yeah naturally because of the heating element in the fogger, the fog will come out hotter. Having it move past cooling packs cools down the fog to increase the low lying effect. The added length of the piping, chamber, and halloween cloth decelerate the fog more so it has even more time to cool. An added bonus is if there is any condensation from cooling the fog, I've found it builds in the cooling chamber instead of on the game table.
3. The idea here is the fog gets more surface contact with the icepacks and offers some resistance for the fog to decelerate. Laying them down will give you less surface area to contact with. An alternative would be to fill the container with ice or dry ice, but you would have to waterproof the chamber so it doesnt leak out the holes.
4. I have my fog machine under the game table, so the only sound audible is from the hissing of the smoke being produced. Honestly if you have music playing or ambience, its barely audible. That said, it can depend on the smoke machine. the one i have here is one of the cheapest you can get, some larger smoke machines may have an audible fan noise....but those ones are for large stage productions haha.
@@Atmoseeker Awesome. The smoke machine I found on Amazon is the cheapest I could find at about $36. The rest of the stuff is pretty easy to get and not expensive except for the high tack glue. The ice packs are also a bit more difficult to find in the right size.
I also like your lighting ideas and may incorporate some of them. I currently have RGB LEDs that I built into my table along with the regular room lights being RGB . The RGB table lights sit at the bottom recessed into the sides and I have been thinking of adding another set along the top edge with angled mounts pointing down. All the lights can be voice controlled through Alexa.
@@brucemeyer6345 Amazing! Sounds like a great table, that recessed RGB lighting around the game area will really enhance the fog. Also would highly recommend getting a timer for the fog machine. I have something similar to this www.amazon.com/dp/B08VDY4TXV that lets you set the duration and time between smoke purges. Helps make one less thing to juggle as an AtmoFX DM
@@Atmoseeker I never thought of this. But interestingly enough the fog machine I have in my cart comes with a remote timer that has three settings. It has a 30, 60, and 80 second spray time. @@brucemeyer6345 ooh fancy. I guess I would just wonder if 80s would be long enough. What I like about the plug in timer is that you can adjust the length of purge and the time between purges, rather than preset ranges. It doesn't look like the timer I linked would plug into that model.
I'd be curious if the remote uses an RF signal, then you could use an RF blaster like a broadlink to use Alexa to fire off smoke.

Yeah for sure, as long as you have fog fluid.
all vaporizers must be restarted with pushing the on button which is not possible so i will have to be more creative
