- The final flybys of MiG-23 'Flogger' 8107 at the 2023 Thunder Over Michigan airshow at Willow Run Airport in Belleville, MI.
This video contains footage from both the Saturday afternoon demonstration, the Sunday morning formation with two F-35Bs, and the final takeoff on Sunday afternoon. Sadly the aircraft crashed just seconds after the last flyby clip, but thankfully both crew were able to safely eject and no one on the ground was injured. The aircraft came down on a golf course and damaged some cars in a nearby parking lot.
We wish everyone involved a speedy and full recovery.

Sad to see such a beautiful bird go, but we should be very thankful those pilots made it out and no casualties occurred on the ground, keep in mind the MiG-23 was very close to hitting an apartment complex. It’s a miracle no casualties occurred from this.
We should all be happy there is one less mig in the world.
THIS... right here is the best part out of this event. Nobody, was hurt, which is a miracle in itself
I saw it happen, I was on the other side of the airport. Then we raced over to where it crashed and observed from the other side of the highway. And when I saw the flames I thought for sure the it hit the Building. The flames were so close. It is unbelievable how close the plane got.
always sad to see any aircraft crash butt... that plane is really ugly, nothing beautiful about it
true statement, but since the crash cause hasnt been determined i think he may have lost control due to being too slow, but if he didnt, he should have tried to ride it somewhere safer@@zachansen8293

I had the great pleasure of witnessing this rare MiG-23UB’s full demo on Saturday afternoon as well as the formation passes with the F-35Bs on Sunday morning. I’m glad to hear everyone in the air and on the ground is okay, but such a shame to lose such a rare aircraft.
Seeing it with the F-35s absolutely blew my mind. So happy I recorded a pass 😅
It’s so sad that it crashed. It was such a rare plane.
They have another 4 airframes to build a second one
@@armoredspain7053should they though? I think we need to make that decision after we find out what happened
@armoredspain7053 true, but I'm worried about what the FAA is gonna do to them, especially if it's found that the crash was caused by a critical maintenance error.
@@mr.bombastic1173 i said another aircraft can be built, but never said by the same team
it was designed by Russians of course it crashed
So sad to see this plane go down. I stood right next to it and touched the fuselage of this plane. I even talked to one of the pilots. So glad they made it out before it crashed. i’m so glad i got to see this beautiful plane fly at Sun N’ Fun, something about it just really mesmerized me. R.I.P. Flogger One…
His name is Dan. He’s still recovering but he’s coming along.
A very sad loss, and a reminder of the risks involved, but I am grateful to the people who have the money, skills, and courage to keep old jets flying.
Money, sure. Courage? You're telling me if you had the money, you'd pass up on it lol?
@jeberg29 I'd love to have a go, wouldn't we all, but these old jets have an awful lot of critical components and some are lost every year. And this one was built by the Soviets.
so you are grateful to the EU countries that handed over old planes to Ukraine and the conflict dragged on ?
@@user-el5yw3fs4b Yes, of course, every step to throwing the invaders out of Ukraine helps.
Perhaps you need to put heavy weapons on Indian reservations - so that they can drive the invaders from the continent of North America . Or is it different ? Ahahahahahahaha@@TheophilusPWildbeest
Apparently there's 11 (now 10) civilian owned Mig-23's in America, making this bird pretty rare. Such a shame to lose vintage aircraft but glad no one including the pilots were injured or killed.
I'm actually surprised there's that many. I'd thought there was just like one or two.
I was at the morning show Sunday and got to see her fly. Such a beautiful aircraft, couldn't believe it happened when I found out 😢

For those wondering, there is more MiG-23 in the US. Hopefully this incident will result in a more mature maintenance procedures for the rest of the fleet, so we still can se them flying in the future.
How many?
@@DanMaverick2211 (now 10) since this is the first loss of civilian MiG-23.
Hopefully Filer keeps ol mate out of the observer seat of the remaining 10.
A 1/72 model by MPC of a single seat FLOGGER-D was 1 of the 1st models I ever built, so sorry to hear this aircraft lost, thankfully no casualties.
I was bummed at Oshkosh when it couldn't go up Saturday night, presumably because of the canopy issue on Friday. I was excited to see it fly but never got the chance to. As disappointing as it is to see this rare aircraft go down, I'm just glad that no one was hurt.
Glad both Pilots are ok. I was standing at the Sand Bar on Bellville lakewhen it flew low over my head and they ejected. I untied my boat to rescue them but there a lot of boat already over there. Thankfully no one got hurt and Everyone ok!!
Where? I didn't see the Mig crashed.
None of those were pilots, they bought the MiG-23 from Bulgaria and played pilots. Almost killed a bunch of people in an apartment building.
Thanks to the American people for their respectful attitude to Soviet aircraft!
i'm just glad nobody got hurt. Machines can be replaced but lives cannot. Glad to know both ejection seats functioned as well.
Haven't seen for such a long time a Mig-23 in the air! My last time, I guess, it was at Airpower1997 from Czech-Airforce in Zeltweg(Austria).
The best background footage yet. The last section of the Ford Willow Run B-24 bomber plant and the terminal. One B-24 every 55 minutes, made nearly half of WW II production, highest production rate of any plant. I walked in there on Hydra-Matic GM watch.
The fomation flight with the two F-35Bs was very special.
Thats an incredible bird. Shame to see it go. Glad the crew got out and no one on the ground was hurt.
What a rare and now likely final encounter for the F-35s
Well, that sucks. Thanks for the footage!
Sorry for the loss of the aircraft. It was a beauty
Very thankful I had the opportunity to take photos of such a rare and beautiful aircraft on Saturday. Sad to see it gone.
Glad the crew are ok.
I saw the mig 23 at EAA when I was there it’s sad that I will never see that plane fly again but I’m glad that no one got hurt
All's well that ends well....thanks so much for sharing some beautiful footage of amazing aircraft...
Magnifique avion.
Glad the pilots made it out alive.
Jeez, that was close - they nearly dropped that on an apartment block.
R.I.P flogger ❤
Glad everyone is okay, sad to see that happen to such a unique, cool, and rare plane in the US. Thankfully, Dan has 2-3 more Floggers.
Who has 2-3 more floggers? Like in the US or somewhere else? Are they under restoration or something? I know there’s one somewhere thats almost complete.
From my understanding, the company that owned Flogger-One has 2-3 more under restoration, that are almost airworthy@@Vice1-4
@@Vice1-4 The same guy that ejected out of this one has more of them, one is almost ready to fly.
@@mytmousemalibujeezus he better be grounded until the investigation is finished. i suspect hydraulic failure
He's not going to be hoping in another anytime soon. It's going to be a while with the FAA & NTSB anyways. He's a a retired Navy pilot, current commercial pilot and Desert Storm veteran. Those dudes are pretty squared away. He buys, sells, and flys old retired soviet jets as a side business. More than likely it was a loss of hydraulics or flight controls, otherwise he would have lined it up for the river before punching out to ensure it stays clear of the public. Thats not what happened, he certainly wouldn't have wanted it to go into a residential area lucky or not. Punch out and be able to explain it and hope for the best or ride it in and die with it.
The last time I saw flights this model Mig23, in Benghazi somewhere in 2004-2005. Thanks for video !👍
R.I.P. 8107 :(
As two-seat training plane, MiG23 ub/um is very rare jet fighter with variable wing. It’s so regrettable.
01:23...it is perfectly visible how the ridge under the tail mechanically turns when langing gear up moved in up position !👍
It's a real shame that this rare fighter is now, just a pile of burnt, and twisted materials, but, I'm glad that the pilot/owner, his back seater, and people on the ground weren't injured, or killed.
Dear god the landing speed on that MiG is insane...
Was really sad to see this icon go down last week... hope they'll find a way to build another!
Glad both crew ejected safely. Very glad the crashed jet missed houses & people. Sad loss of an interesting plane.
It was most wonderfull loss. Of just one airplane a MIG 23 and no loss of others or lives on the ground. When this unguided rocket, misstle, or bomb came down to the ground... Thank goodness for that, and that it had ejectlon seats for the onboard crew to use...
I watched erik johnsons detailed walk through video on this plane awhile back...what a shame to see it go down but at the same time...amazing that nobody got killed or lost their homes. The FAA already makes owning these old foreign warplanes or any old war bird very difficult and a hard process as does many of these alphabet letter gangs do for anyone and now they will probably make it even more difficult. Waiting to see what the cause of it end up being because the engine was still on when they ejected.
The cause of the accident was an engine failure.
Its a bummer it went down. Glad no one was hurt. There's plenty more where that one came from.
Mig-23 flying in formation with F-35s, good to see.
Even IAF was operating this soviet bird with swing-wings.
Rip Mig 23
Thanks to the experts on our Soviet history of the aviation industry, Thanks to the American guys, it’s a shame for the lost two-seat combat trainer, but the pilots are alive and that’s the main thing, Greetings from Russia
The MiG-23 is a sexy looking bird!
RIP MiG-23
Rip Mig-23
Rare single engine variable sweep combo
So sad that this gem crashed, hope another one rises from its ashes like a Phoenix.
Excellent video, a beautiful machine!, nice to see also the f35s
That mig is no more. I'm glad the two pilots were able to eject safety and nobody got killed.
Thanks so much 👍👍👍
saw it at oshkosh, so sad it ended…thank god the pilots are ok, and hopefully more stricter matience is put into the future mig 23s.
Are you sure it was a maintenance issue?
@@DblIre ive hear compressor issue and ive heard engine failure or flameout, but im not sure.
Amazes me how Americans can keep things in such good condition. I’m surprised the Americans were able to keep this jet in working order to begin with.
Where did they get the parts from? Or are the parts custom made?
Glad they made it out ok.
That Mig looks like it's in mint condition. Like it just came off the assembly line. What is the cause of the crash?
Look at the tail section in the ground and airborne situation. A retractable extra tail structure.
So sad it crashed, at least the pilots and people on ground lived…
Beautiful video of a magnificent jet 👍
Even after many years it is still amazing piece of engineering.
All the fighters of the MIG Design Bureau are legendary, they are still graceful and beautiful, despite their age.
For every landing of this aircraft , it always reminds me the swedish gripen , it's not used other tools to stop , that's why it can land and take off from a short distance....
Dang, that aircraft looks like an F-4 and F-111 had and unprotected fling after guzzling a few gallons of Stoli. 😅 It’s been theorized that it had a failure of the turbine drive shaft, disabling hydraulics and causing the crash. Apparently the 23 was known to have this issue. Might be a while until we know for sure. Glad the only casualty was the aircraft, as it could have been much worse.
Intakes are a direct copy of those on the F-4
What about the loss of personal property in the apartments parking lots? And compared to the F-4 Phantom, that Mig looks like a garbage truck!
You have to be kidding@@nashvillecop1
@@nashvillecop1 You might consider that is a bit harsh. It is just a different style than that which we here in the "Western World" are accustomed to may be all.
@@DumbledoreMcCracken Well, I wonder when this urban legend, actually perpetuated by the owner of this MiG, is going to die. No, the intakes are different, although the design looks similar.
Wow. This fighter jet amazes me. I love it.
What was that black square in the lower RH corner at 1:45 of this video?
2:19 The sound of an approaching Flogger... I remember it very well as I used to spend days in the area where Polish Floggers would do training flights. I loved to watch and hear them. It was in the early '90s in the northern Poland. No other aircraft would make the same howling-jet noise, neither the Fishbed, nor the Fulcrum. Perhaps the Fitter would come close in the terms of "cool sound".
I cant imagine the sickening feeling that pilot must have had knowing that jet may well have hit a building....Thank God it didnt.
Mig 23 is unique and wonderful fighter jet thaks for its contribution and tireless endeavour to protect Indian Soil.
Beautiful 4 ship formation between Mig, F35s and dragonfly 👌
Beautiful.

Absolute beauty.
It was a matter of time before it would be written off...., R.I.P. "Flogger B".

MiG23, by the way, is a very dangerous plane, there is a small margin in the angle of attack of the wing at takeoff, which is why the takeoff was only use afterburner engine mode( 0:55...12:30) ! 😎 this, by the way, is confirmed by the case when this type of plane flew almost all over Europe without a pilot!🤔
Precisely for those reasons, this aircraft was accepted into service air force in the USSR for more than 10 years🤷♂️, and was accepted only after the appearance of the MiG23 MLD modification !
Glad they rode the mortar -seats out(: So sad to lose a rare bird-- so great no one on terra firma was smashed
No effin' idea how I put the strike through the *Rare Bird*
Sweet dreams and flying machines, in pieces on the ground.
Respect the 23 team!
Sadly it was that MIG's time to go but all was ok. Cool aircraft but a reason for its departure may never be found. Hopefully it will be.
