- In this video I start the 60-ish mile Cathedral Valley Loop through southern Utah’s Capitol Reef National Park. I drive across a river, come across an old abandoned truck, and drive through some truly epic desert landscapes before finding a buggy campsite on national forest land.

Still catching up on some of your earlier video efforts. You always manage to find amazing vistas in your treks...keepin' it real!
Thanks!
What a beautiful green campsite. Love those trees. You must be resilient to heat, 90’s are too hot for me. I love Capitol Reef. We are going back in September.
Wow those cathedral rocks are almost unbelievable.
Definitely an amazing place!
That scenery is magnificent. Thank you for sharing.
It really is a stunning place, and there's a ton to see and do there. Thanks freedom dove.
Beautiful scenery! Enjoying the trip. Looking forward to seeing what is ahead. Thank you for taking us along. Stay safe
Thanks Davin. Capitol Reef is a really great place. More beautiful scenery to come in the next video!
I was second!...lol. beautiful scenery. All I have seen in many videos are reasons not to do the C class rv. It just would not hold up. The suburban is only 2wd. Going to build a camper on my 4-ever (mine) truck. and go that way.
In my experience, high clearance is far, far more important than 4WD. I'd be fine getting a 2WD vehicle if it had high clearance. And there's nothing wrong with a class C, but it's definitely not for the style of travel that I like to do. Thanks Daryl!
Very real. Thank you.
Outstanding video. Excellent sites. Thank you! Oh, I liked the eating outro. It was cute.
Thanks for the kind words Sylvia, I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it!
Those were some neat shots..I have never been to any of the areas you are covering. Nice to see.
I'm happy I could share them with you. Thanks Amanda!
Oh man, that little Rav4 is a BEAST!
It is, and I love it!
You are so brave...and nuts!
Not so brave, but yeah, maybe a little nuts :)
nice drive, I want to do that...
Beautiful scenery :) I haven't explored Utah yet but it's on my list. Thanks for sharing!
In my opinion, California beats out Utah for sheer variety of its natural beauty, but I don't know if any state can top Utah for density of beautiful places. Definitely a place worth exploring.
Breathtaking views! There is so much to see right here in the US. I'm so looking forward to the videos from this trip. Safe travels! (your pasta salad looked yummy)
You're right!
I don't know how many road tripping loops of the western US I've done, but there's always way, way, waaaay more to see than I have the time for. Thanks Carol!
Each vidoe has a jaw dropping moment ! You are a risk taker - and a pretty swell vlogger.
Thanks :)
i have the same car as you so your videos are perfect for planning my road trip!
It's a great little adventure vehicle! I love mine.
👍👍👍
Tristan, I'm really enjoying your videos. They are just what we need to see as we plan our trip to Southern Utah in September. We are flying into Vegas, renting a van, quickly outfitting it with a 4 X 6 raised platform with buns underneath and heading out for 2 weeks. We will be doing a combination of National Park and dispersed camping, so I'm loving your videos. Our schedule takes us to Bryce, Escalante, Capital Reef, Arches, Moab, Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon for the Fall Equinox, Monument Valley, and finally Zion. We may take the road in this video as you have. Do you think a 2-wheel drive minivan might make it, especially the crossing?
I've been to all of those places you mentioned except Chaco Canyon, and they're all amazing. That'll be an incredible, if hectic, trip. You could spend the entire 2 weeks in any one of those areas! No, I don't think a minivan will make it on this road. 4-wheel drive isn't necessary, but moderately high clearance is.
I agree, it will likely be hectic and we may not be able to do it all, but I feel like we have to try to do as much
as possible, within reason. I hope we aren't biting off more than we can chew, but with all the traveling I've done in my life, for some reason it's taken me a very long time to do this trip, even though I have wanted to since I was a kid. Also, we may not get back any time soon as we are expecting a baby in March, sooo...there's that. I called a tow service close to Torrent, UT earlier today just before I got your reply, ironically, and he recommended against trying it in a van as well. They service that area and get frequent calls to free stuck vehicles on that loop. However, he did suggest that we abandon the loop aspect and try from the other direction starting on Caineville Wash Rd., just West of Caineville, for a few reasons. First, he felt we would get to the most scenic areas faster this way and second, we avoid the river crossing, which is of course a bit of a commitment, and third if we run into anything we feel we can't handle, we can always turn around. So now our plan will be (weather permitting) to try and "in and out" trip from Caineville and attempt to get to the Gypsum Sinkhole area (around 26 miles or 2 hours) and then backtrack, avoiding the river crossing and hopefully much of the worst part of the road. He also said the road was serviced or graded recently, but that they have had a lot of rain lately too and that a few 4-wheel drive vehicles are getting stuck going clockwise and he can't even get to them to pull them out. We will of course check with the Park Service before any attempt and then only if it looks like good weather. We may even try to camp out there if we can find a place. Thanks for the reply Tristan and for this video. You are now a part of our trip too. Following your blog as well. Very well done.
OMGosh, you are sooo brave. My 2015 Transit Connect Passenger has low clearance, I could never make it over that creek without a 4WD. Do you have special tires? You're footage always seems so smooth. Do you just set up your camera to record you driving and hiking away, then go back to get it? You're videos always seem like documentary's with someone else recording you.
That truck makes for some pretty cool black and white or sepia toned photos. I wonder what the story is behind it's abandonment.
I was in Capitol Reef last September. That part you're in looks like another planet.
You're campsite is soooo green and secluded. You are really good at finding the best places and so creative with your de-bug veil. LOL. I wonder if the flies are because of the cows.
Thanks for another great video. I watch them as I'm getting ready for work, sometimes on the weekends and when I get home from work. They're sooo relaxing and I get some great ideas.
Yeah, I don't think the Transit Connect would make that crossing. Nope, I don't have special tires. Just regular Michelins from Costco. "Do you just set up your camera to record you driving and hiking away, then go back to get it?" Yep! Yes, I think the flies are because of the cows, or more specifically, the cow pies. The flies are all over those. Thanks for watching!
First to view....thats a first for me.
You're fast!
SUV RVing : Probably just luck & happened to be online when I got your notification.....been u tubing a long time & have never been first. Another great video....keep them coming. Also thanks for telling us the temp there.....95 today in south central Indiana with 105 heat index.
Did you do these in all season tires ?
Are you considering any solar setups in the future?
Not seriously, no. Not anytime soon, anyway. I may get a battery that can be charged via the alternator, but a full solar setup is too much for my needs.
Did you cross the river FWD or 4WD? The crossing was pretty amazing. I would be loving my car too driving me across a river like that.
I had 4WD turned on when I crossed the river, but I'm not sure I needed it.
New kayak ? No inflatable?
I've had the kayak for a couple of months. I still use the inflatable raft for lakes that I hike to, but the kayak is great for places I can drive to.
Fjording..?
Nope
Bag up or cover up the cow dung and the flys will go away
Good call. I'll have to try that. Thanks Judy!
Shouldn’t the picture say “Toyotaing a river?” 🤔😂 jk jk
Lol groooaaan!
Liked the videos. You. Are adorable and so cute!!
Thanks!
AWD not 4wd
No. I have a 2011 RAV4. It has 4WD. Current models have AWD.
interesting the uk models have only ever been iterations of Volvos AWD (a weaker cheaper version then Volvo use)
