Since 1948, many nations have observed Zomi Nam Ni on the 20th of February. The Day is marked as a day of redemption, adoration, peace, harmony, reflection on politics, and remembering the history of the Zomi.
Before the arrival of the British, the Zo people inhabited and dominated the Zoland, which at the time included the Chin Hills, Lushai Hills, and Chittagong Hill Tract. They had their own independent, democratic decentralised administration, which was carried out by their Chiefs.
