  • Betty isn't petty. She's definitely impulsive and a bit obsessive, but petty is not a word I'd use to describe her even though they rhyme. Yes this is the third video on Betty I've made somehow and there's still so much to cover. BUT, the brainrot is very real so I must speak. Hope you enjoy!
    The Adventure Time spinoff / sequel series, Fionna and Cake has been a masterpiece for weeks now, so I'm gushing about it.

    Simon was repeating the same cycle of self-sacrifice, he was happy to throw his sanity away just to help Fionna and Cake. It was a selfless decision, but it speaks of how little Simon values his own life, he was only able to find purpose in his ability to sacrifice for others. Just like how Betty probably didn't value herself much so she always put Simon's wants before her own, sacrificing for him gave her purpose.
    Betty wasn't calling out Simon for being a bad boyfriend or anything, she wanted to stop him from repeating those same mistakes.

      YAS!!! I hate that everyone calls Simon selfish or Betty a bad girlfriend. She's not, and he's not. Both have their flaws. Both are incredible self-sacrificial to the point they devalue their own lives, and Betty was just trying to steer him away from that same path. I think Simon may have autism, and Betty could have ADHD. They both show signs of Neurodivergent personalities, and I love it!

      Honestly I agree with you. Most other creators are so sensationalist about this like you stated. On another note I do wanna say I know I may seem crazy for saying this but even as toxic as it may be I find how Betty is and her devotion to Simon so romantic and adorable. I know the chances are slim but I'd love for A guy to act like betty towards me as I would love the dedication and love from them. it's so cute how Betty try's to make a cure for ageing. I mean all she had to do is put Simon his ice crown so he'd be immoral again then go to that island where finns mom lived as there quite advanced. Stay there and make a whole research facility to cure aging so she can be with simon. again it's so cute and adorable that she goes so far as to save him even against his wishes. she loves him so much that she disregards his own wishes just to save him. I honeslty in my heart of hearts would love to have a partner like this it'd make me so happy i'd cry of happy tears every day. Though I doubt I would find someone as dedicated and devoted as betty. and I know it;s toxic bc Idc I find it cute and adorable if a guy was like that to me. anyways enough of me rambling about me wanting a crazy devoted partner. if you read this all thanks for spending the time for doing so and have a good day :)

    Betty and Simon are so perfect for each other but WOW are they also the perfect storm of disaster flaws that feed into each other. It's beautiful but also so heartbreaking at times because it's just so *real*, how relationships are imperfect and weird and confusing and hard. But when you love someone enough, things that are more obvious from the outside, red flags, green flags; they all turn into just flags, and what might be normal for your relationship might sound psychotic to someone else. Those snapshots we get at their love at first sight feel like they've already been married for ages with how they just bask in each other's presence.

    • @Kev-D-OG
      @Kev-D-OG  Před 10 měsíci +3

    What was left of betty had clearly grown beyond Simon, but kind enough to help simon speed run his grief. We've seen that she was more giving than him when their relationship started but we dont see the rest. Which makes it really unfair when they're branded as toxic.
    Betty's story in AT is grief, and trying to get what she had back. Not a woman giving her all for a one sided relationship. Same with simon in F&C.

  • @sapientisessevolo4364
    @sapientisessevolo4364 Před 10 měsíci +11

    I mostly agree, based on the Casper-Nova story, I would say Betty was finally putting herself first (even if only a little), making it a bit more of an equal relationship. I think Betty may have been slightly annoyed at Simon (even if she was more concerned than annoyed) for throwing away the second chance Betty sacrificed herself for.
    And while Betty was happy to go along with Simon's way, it ultimately resulted in Betty/Golb. But hey, she did say she had no regrets, so in the end it worked out, Simon even got closure!
    Hell, even when she is a god she ends up going out of her way to help Simon, she's practically the opposite of petty

    • @Kev-D-OG
      @Kev-D-OG  Před 10 měsíci +6

      I can definitely understand Betty being annoyed, however, I can easily see it as her being annoyed that Simon doesn't see himself the way that she sees him. To understand how much she cared about him, I think that Casper and Nova storyline shows that really well and the "I have no regrets" moment shows that it isn't out of malicious intent.

    I mean Betty is essentially The God- outside time and space of all universes but seemingly aware of everything everywhere, and present everywhere all at once as well. So it makes sense that as a transcendent god she would be subtly watching and telling Simon the answers hes asking for in an indirect way. Which she did- Simon 'accidentally' summons Fionna and cake directly while doing a ritual to Golbetty to be shown the path/way. Fionna and cake mirror Simon's psyche and outlook on life- but Fionna directly commentates on Simon and Betty's relationship and points out what she believes should have happened (like asking if Simon goy on the bus to travel with Betty to see petroglyphs, and him being confused).
    All of that to me was Betty subtlety giving Simon the answers he was asking for- but when he finally gets to Betty and still can't understand, she directly uses her powers to put him in a period of time where he will directly be able to find and see a representation of his and her relationship with each other in a concisely out together game. Beth is also there to point out the things he should have done to get a 'better ending' for both characters- this is the point he finally realizes the disbalance of his and Betty's relationship.

    She is the opposite of petty but I do find her a little selfish. In my opinion her love for simon is her choice. Even if she was willing to sacrifice her self, she only had to do that because of her own selfishness. One thing I didn't like about Fiona and cake is that the ice king is seemingly unredeemable. It ruins the ice crown being a metaphor for dementia or other mental illnesses for me. I think it's interesting that Simon accepts betty as golb but she couldn't accept Simon as Ice king.

    • @Kev-D-OG
      @Kev-D-OG  Před 10 měsíci +7

      I understand where you're coming from but I personally would consider what she does for Simon very selfless, however, when she's Magic Betty you could definitely see it as her being selfish and longing for her lover. I do think that if Patience didn't mess things up with Betty though that she would've been able to accept Ice King as we saw in Elements.

    I love betty...though I do feel a bit mixed because on one hand...what happened happened. No what ifs could have changed what they actually did and their choices. And it did feel like Betty did set him on the route so that he'd have to let her go which felt a bit unfair to me because she didn't let him go...so why does he have to? It came across a bit like Simon was selfish which I felt was a bit unfair...especially when I feel like if Simon followed all the stuff she did to get him back...woukdnt he have talked to fin about what she saw up on Mars and how she gave up that trip. I kindof wish they had pointed out even if he HAD gotten on that bus with her...he wouldn't have been able to go on that trip because he didn't gave a plane ticket.
    And unlike her who kind of invited herself on his trip with enough time to plan....he had a limited time due to her letter and rushing.
    If maybe they pointed out he could have told her he'll meet her there later once he got a ticket...or that they could talk on the phone and that he'll wait for her to come back from her trip since her trip was just that...a trip. She was going to come back eventually.
    Though I do like how it's a mix of how she does tend to be impulsive/not always think things through in the long run is both a strength and weakness for her that doesn't invalidate her feelings.
    I also think a interesting contrast in them is they both love eachother...but she is often willing to ignore some of his thoughts or advice sometimes while he tends to believe her at her word a bit too often when she says she wants something....like how he tried to push for her to share the limelight of discovering the book but sge insisted she wanted him to take the limelight. How when she admitted she had another trip he let her come along because she seemed to find her trip with him a really good opportunity herself. Or how he used her words in tge letter about wanting to be with him narrow his focus so it didn't occur he could go with her.
    And how she we nt insane trying to cure him which he clearlybwouldnt approve of but how he wants to get to her just as badly but has to res p ect that he can't get hurt along the way because sge wouldn't want that.
