I don't think we should assume he set of on an 11hr walk. He may have just not wanted to sit around at the B&B for 2hrs waiting on a bus so thought he would use the time to start walking and try find another town or village with cigarettes...etc and get a bus or taxi from there. Then once he made the decision to go off road and could see the ocean, he associated the ocean with people because when you are in any of the ocean resorts and look back all you see is mountains, so go down the mountain you will find people. The further he went the more committed he was so didn't turn back.
There was a cafe next to the airbnb... if he was thirsty & hungry & needed a charger & a place to wait for a bus he would have had a place to wait there... clearly went off road to escape from the guys.. last place phone pinged was next to a building.. the guys called Lucy & Brad asking where he was & his location... evidently wanted to find him..

His body found in an area of Parque Rural de Teno shows he had no idea where he was or where he was going. I’m not into conspiracies but a couple of small points that it would be interesting to hear an explanation on, Firstly, if he was found so close to his last known location which was the focal point of the search, how did the trained sniffer dogs not pick up on his scent at all? How were they able to identify him from his fingerprints?
1) A lot of the plants in this area have a very strong smell and the winds are strong, the scent would be masked and blown away. 2) At best triangulation with 3 masks gives a position within 500m, which is an area of 750,000 m^2. With poor coverage this could be 2,500,000 m^2. With steep terrain , the actual area to be covered could be grater than 5M m^2. 3) With regards to fingerprints, there are two possibilities. The fingerprints were previously taken with regards to another matter and were on record. Or prints were taken that were known to be his prints, collected at his home or in the hotel where he was staying. This would be standard police practice. Some countries require fingerprint identification for entry, these data are recorded on the smart passports and this requirement is being expanded in Europe. This is an extension to the photo ID.

How did they miss him? Seriously people the terrain is treacherous even with proper equipment and experience let alone dehydrated, and disoriented after a 3 day party. His body found in an area of Parque Rural de Teno shows he had no idea where he was or where he was going. He was totally turned around and going in the wrong direction, even after a local woman advised him when the bus would come. So unfortunate that these circumstances developed where his mind and emotions could not make a proper decision to safely return. Rest In Peace young man.

I’m not into conspiracies but a couple of small points that it would be interesting to hear an explanation on,
Firstly, if he was found so close to his last known location which was the focal point of the search, how did the trained sniffer dogs not pick up on his scent at all?
How were they able to identify him from his fingerprints?
1) A lot of the plants in this area have a very strong smell and the winds are strong, the scent would be masked and blown away.
2) At best triangulation with 3 masks gives a position within 500m, which is an area of 750,000 m^2. With poor coverage this could be 2,500,000 m^2. With steep terrain , the actual area to be covered could be grater than 5M m^2.
3) With regards to fingerprints, there are two possibilities. The fingerprints were previously taken with regards to another matter and were on record. Or prints were taken that were known to be his prints, collected at his home or in the hotel where he was staying. This would be standard police practice.
Some countries require fingerprint identification for entry, these data are recorded on the smart passports and this requirement is being expanded in Europe. This is an extension to the photo ID.

@@markdraycott3974 Fingerprints have been found on mummies after thousands of years. The preservation depends on the conditions where the body was found. Complete prints are not necessary, just fragments would be enough to match with known prints.

I think they found him on Sunday.. because I watched something late Sunday saying there is an announcement tomorrow about jay., an update. And then it the morning they announced they found a body.
More likely he was being chased and fell down the mountain or the person he stole the watch from, caught up to him and pushed him down the mountain.
