    There was that interview 5 years ago where Miura said the ending was coming up and there’s one hint: Void
    Void is key to everything with the Godhand, the old ones, the new ones, Griffith and allegedly doing the work of the Idea of Evil. Was Void the Griffith of his time, or did he transcend space and time to be the ultimate puppet master?

    • @ausgamecollector
      @ausgamecollector Před 2 lety +55

      ‘Void’ in Japanese mythology and Shintoism is the 5th element. Look at the old (replaced/ superseded) members of the Godhand… They all resemble some part of the natural world; frost/ water, wood(fauna?), ash/ embers(insects?), flora/ fertility… Void was previously a Sage, likely an advisor to Gaeseric (some believe, who created the Crimson Behelit) who summoned “angels” while he was imprisoned in that tower by Gaeseric. Although unclear, it seems likely at some stage that Void somehow had a (God) hand at corrupting the natural order of things, at the very least, the eclipse and branding process took on more of a process of bloodshed, of a brutalist and sadistic nature, where feeding the GH’s Apostles becomes part of the sacrifice and the overall aim of the ritual. This is worlds away from what we witnessed during his sacrifice of Gaeseric’s empire; even though Gaeseric’s love interest is seen as branded (along with the kingdom itself), she appears unbrutalised, with no fatal wounds, it’s almost as if she had her life force drawn from her(juxtaposing Casca’s experience in Femto’s eclipse)… In conclusion, it is likely Void had a hand in effing stuff up and perverting/ corrupting the natural order of things. We may even go so far as to say that knowing SK and Flora, that he knew the old GH would perish, and via the cycle of GH initiations, had a (God)hand in recruiting the rest of the members, who each have a (God) hand in the perversion of the natural world.

      @@Mannnnnnnn I believe that SK (at the end of Guts’ vision in the Berserk Armour) with the assistance of Flora, who summoned the 4 Elemental Kings, likely had a showdown with the Old Godhand. However, Void having the ability to manipulate/ bend space, couldn’t be defeated, subsequently escaping, leaving the kingdom in ruin.
      This would explain why Flora was outcasted from Elfheim for doing something taboo, it explains the mass sacrifice I’m parallel with the kingdom being physically ‘torn asunder’.. Although we don’t know at what point/ how the Apostles started appearing, it also explains why SK has been slaying them and collecting Behelits(demonstrated by him unsuccessfully striking Void during Femto’s eclipse) in the eventual creation of the Sword of Actuation. It could also be why Flora calls the GH ‘Angels’, as perhaps the original 4 were angels and not known as ‘Godhand’ per se. This goes with the theme of Void making chaos out of order, but, my two cents.

    Zodd being skull knights beast of darkness is probably just wrong for a couple of reasons: when zodd first sees guts in the armor he speaks with sk about it which I always took as them having fought with sk using it. then there’s the actual shape of the armor, when guts uses it, it changes to reflect his inner beast which is how we get the hell hound design, it was originally in the shape of a skull meaning that’s probably what gaiserics beast was. Finally, zodd is the godhands errand boy which wouldn’t line up with doesn’t add up with gaiseic wanting them dead. Even guts’ beast wants to mutilate Griffith so I can’t imagine gaiserics switching teams. Everything else is interesting but that part threw me for a loop.

    • @big_hat_logan
      @big_hat_logan Před rokem

      One thing I think is interesting, is when Zodd is first introduced he’s said to be 200-300 years old, and it seems as if maybe he’s seen at least one other eclipse event. But it kind of makes sense that maybe the 200-300 is legend, and actually hes 1000 years old and is a super powerful apostle who saw Gaseiric physically die at the eclipse event (wearing the berserk armor) and be bound in spirit as skull knight. Either he’s been fighting skull knight for 200-300 years and just somehow knows what the Berserk armor is, or he’s been fighting the Skull knight for 1000 years since Gaeseric’s time, and has seen berserk amor first hand.
      When I first read, I always thought Skull Knight becoming the astral spectral being was directly linked to his use of the Berserk armor, I thought the armor made him into that. But now I guess not because of the “taboo” that was mentioned, and the “memory” the berserk armor shows of Gaeseric dying at the eclipse event, implying he was wearing the armor when he died

      Then again you could argue that if that’s all that maters then what if all of the Branded escaped (let’s say Skull Knight comes to the rescue much earlier, how would Femto be born without sustenance from his sacrifices?)? At what point is the ritual complete (what percentage of sacrifices are needed for an Apostle or God Hand to realize their full power?)?

    • @edgeofsins

      Possible but sometimes I feel like it can be reading too much into it. I think the ritual is mostly to do with them losing their humanity and for apostles and such to celebrate and feast versus the sacrifices giving them power.. but as I think about this. Why would a brand be needed then? Maybe to allow the humans to enter their world for that moment. Maybe the brand is a key and not just some mark of sacrifice.

    I think it's less about gods being forgotten and more about the idea that evil can't ever be defeated.
    So much of Berserk is about glorifying 'The Struggle' - the value in perservering no matter how life treats you. And one of the hardest things in life is accepting that certain things will never change, like corruption, crime, or the weaknesses we so often see in fellow human beings. The Godhand might simply represent all this. The idea of 'defeating' the Godhand; 'defeating' Griffith might eventually be seen as a weakness of Guts. Maybe what Guts has to learn in order to win is that vengeance can take you a lot of places, but those places may not be where you want to be. And that staying and protecting his new friends and family are more important. Perhaps learning to let go of the pain of the past and embracing hope, he gains a new kind of strength. A strength to protect those he cherishes. Something he couldn't do before.

The people stop wanting/giving strength to the current godhand, and their desires for a hero who struggles, a true hero of the people, gives guts the power up he needs to stand toe to toe with the godhand. In the end, guts wouldn’t have been fighting for revenge, but for freedom. It would have been a beautiful end to his character arc.

To have guts become the hero we as readers know he is, and the world to see the monster we as readers know Griffith to be.

I actually didnt think about Zodd and Skull Knight being the same person that makes a lot of sense actually with how both "Mentor" Guts during the story in their own way, and their rivalry.
    I'd assume the God Hand works like The Phantom Troupe and just recruit new members when needed, all preordained thanks to causality of course. Now idk what happened to them for sure but I believe Skull Knight probably killed them offscreen, my only evidence being when a God Hand member shows up in our world hes there too. The bitter irony he managed to kill 4 members already, yet still cant vanquish Void after all this time.

      Anyways, my theory is what if The God Hand really has 6 fingers in total? And the 6th member is actually.... Skull Knight. But SK acts like a counter finger, opposed to the rest. Maybe that's why he's so focused on Void for resigning him to a cruel fate. Yet they all work to move Causality forward according to the Idea of Evils design. God Hand helping the Apostles while SK helps Guts and the crew. I didn't come to this conclusion until playing Elden Ring (its inspired by Berserk and GoT duh) with the 2 fingers and the Golden Order being very opposed to the 3 Fingers of Frenzied Flame of Chaos. Combined they make one hand but at some point the Greater Will divided and came to opposition and split into 2 entities.

You say, that in your opinion Zodd is a part of the former king as they split up in two halves. You may want to read a bit of the Gilgamesh Epic and find out more about the >companion< of Gilgamesh, who was the cause for the King to seek the secret of eternal life (Hint: 'Nosferatu') ... and by coincidence is said to have 2 horns and fought >lions< and wolves.
    What may also be a hint: King Gilgamesh's rulership wasn't known for his kindness.

He cared and respected every member (which was reciprocal) knew what kind of person they and always are unlike most mercenary leaders who most likely don`t even know the names of everyone in their gang. The high probable evidences are the historical aspects & logic that very much attached to Berserk overall. Just like IRL history, we know at some point there were ancient gods worshiping & belief system (animism, dynamism, polytheism, totemism, paganism, etc), such as the 4 heavenly kings/angels & the sea god.
      I do have my own theory that the mysterious god hands in Void's eclipse most likely supposed to represent the corrupted state of this 4 heavenly kings deities, the base belief of magic/alchemy/astral plane. Basically the eclipse in its essence was a dark summoning ritual that manipulate the causality itself. This is also inline with how Schrieke talked about Holy See scriptures & teachings were likely a "modified" version of previous beliefs, a beliefs that directly connected through magic aka the 4 heavenly guardian/kings/angels. Hawing a lion on a belt is as much a sign of connection to particular Godhand, as for real world human wearing a cross is a sign of knowing Christ or saint personally. We could as well say that Whale Knights from Chudder were at some point personally connected to the Sea God.

    I like the video and some of the speculation in the design of some of these older godhand members, especially the far right looking like a version of artemis. I think it's really interesting how little we know about even the latter godhand. We can guess Slan is about lust, fertility, sexuality and she even has what seems to be cult devoted to her in the Conviction Arc. Conrad, we see his image formed by a mass of plague rats once in Conviction arc and later at the end of Millenium Falcon arc with the merging of worlds. I think this links him to the idea of pestilience. Ubik is mysterious, somehow seems to correspond to Conrad, he leads Griffith into his memories and dreams. We see him a the merging of worlds walking in a Bosch-esque scene which just speaks more about dreams or possibly nightmares; overall i think he's the Dream Guy, maybe responsible for events like all the people in Wyndham having the same dream about the Hawk of Light, also probably connected to the ambition thats driven by dreams like Griffith's. Void, from the story of the prophet imprisoned and tortured in Gaiseric's time, might represent something like prophesy, fate or ... wait for it ... Causality itself. Collective belief in the inevitability of fate might be the root of Void as an entity. It would similarly make sense that there was a godhand of fertility (far right) in the past, and others that correspond likely to concepts important to the people of that time and context.
