The only difference being, every single time you change the day and night you HAVE to sit through a strangely and needlessly long cutscene of the change of light and its unskipable
Okay but for real. It’s so annoying. I wish they’d make an option to disable it.
It's called padding, and it's a very poor attempt at hiding it too.
It's not that long of a cutscene, and it allows the game to load all of the night/day stuff without you having to sit through a loading screen.
The loading screen would be 100% more annoying, believe me.

This is VERY accurate to. Other than Childe, I can also imagine these characters doing this: Itto, Hu Tao, Klee, Sayu (since she wants to sleep she‘ll turn the lights off), Yoimiya (cause the flashing lights are similar to Fireworks kinda? And she likes these fast movements of light?) and so on
I weirdly can also imagine razor doing this

Except you have to wait for the electrician to activate the triangle then deliver you the information, then you need to wait because your character is having a stroke because of the light and only THEN you can play the game.
