Ife also called Ile-Ife was an ancient African city which flourished into a large empire in what is today Nigeria in West Africa. Ife was the capital and principal religious centre of the people who are now known as the Yoruba.

I believe that our history is important and we have to understand that our history precedes the Tran-Atlantic Slave trade. A sense of self is important in the self development of Black Children. This history must be reserved and taught.

If you know about King Ori (4470 BC), the first king of Ethiopia, which I presume was all of Africa outside Egypt, then you will know that Ile-Ife has no equal. It's clear from that name "Ori", that he was of Yoruba origin. The Ethiopia King list showed King Ori. Sadly, our scholars tend to regurgitate what shallow-headed European historians spew out. We need independent minded African historians who are ready to break new ground.

we need to stop fueling this pseudo history of Yoruba people migrating from the middle east. We are indigenous people that have been on this land for thousands of years, we never migrated from the middle east or whatever. if indeed a migration occured from the east, it is most likely from the area occupied by the Nok civilization in antiquity, evidenced by the similar terracotta artifacts to that of Ife, discovered in that region and also by the close similarity in language by inhabitants of that space in modern times(Igala people). The obatala palmwine story on the other hand is folklore at best and not historical.

Interesting lesson but I must raise a point that the people in the state known as Edo state today are not related to Yoruba people. There is a Yoruba monarchy in Benin( Igodo or Igodomigodo( from Ife who's ancestors invaded in the 11th century and those that migrated with them from Ife, hence why you have some ethnic groups who are related to Yoruba predominantly in Benin and Benin was historically called Igodo or Igodomigo before it was renamed by the Oba dynasty Most people in Edo State as a whole a related to Igbo, it's in the culture, food, dressing, festivals, market days, tradition and language. Although the dialect spoken in Edo state today is different from what their ancestors spoke. Edo (Idu) is historically Igbo land.

@@walecheroke FORGOTTEN DAIRIESThe Interesting Story To Know About Ijębu Tribe
The ancestors of the Ije̩bus came into Nigeria from Owodaiye Kingdom of Ethiopia (now Waddai). Owodaiye Kingdom was bounded in the East by Tigre and the Kingdom of Axum; in the North by Nubia; in the South-Eastern border by the land of Punt, with no clear boundaries in the West.
Published 7 months ago on October 29, 2021By Opinion Nigeria
The Ije̩bu Kingdom is a sub-ethnic group of the Yoruba tribe and consists of a group of people inhabiting the South-Central part of the Yoruba Land.
They are bounded in the North by Ibadan, in the East by Ondo and Ilaje̩, and in the West by E̩gbaland.
Although a larger number of the Ije̩bu people are found in Ogun State, Nigeria, a fraction of the Ije̩bu people are in E̩pe̩, Ikorodu, and Lekki in Lagos State, Nigeria. Regardless of this political division (presence of Ije̩bu people in another state - Lagos), they still regard themselves as one entity.
      HISTORY
As it is with most other tribes, there are usually different accounts of their origin with one account being more prominent than others. The case is not different with the Ije̩bus.

A historical account suggests that the people of Ijebu are direct descendants of Oduduwa, the son of King Lamurudu, who was expelled from Mecca some 1500 years ago.
However, the people of the tribe annul this claim on the ground that the account meant all Yorubas came into existence as one single group whereas this is not the case.
The widely accepted account among the Ije̩bus is that, they have their descent from Sudan. This is a claim which seems to be corroborated by a Haile Mariam publication: “the most powerful people that the Negede Orit (Ancient Ethiopian Africa) met in East Africa were the Ije̩bus.”
Negede Orit’s sojourn into Ethiopia was several centuries before King Solomon and Makida, the Queen of Sheba, where he met the Ije̩bus (maybe the biblical Jebusites?) on the East Coast of Southern Sudan.
