Play the character until you become the character? Bro that video inspired me so much. It was one of the first videos I watched of yours, and your mentality inspired me so much. To lose the fear of judgement. Can't tell you how much the words in that video have helped me. They've probably changed my whole life. That video made you one of the few idols I have. Love your perspective mate❤️
P.S still watch that video to this day

Daniel, very deep and profound. You are able to articulate what many probably feel inside but unable to formulate a plan of steps to resolve/combat.
I think this will help many.
Your best attribute is being an Open Book. You ain't faking the funk.

I feel very much the same way. Even though some people may not understand, the way you explained how you get your confidence makes a lot of sense. It's almost like a deceptive move. For example, a retention coin vanish; Instead of focusing all on the sleight, have the mindset that you're actually putting the coin into your hand. Same thing with having the confidence to perform magic & sleight of hand; instead of trying to focus all on the sleight of hand, perform with a mindset and vibe that you are in fact the best at what you are doing.

Real life confidence man. I love these words. I'm glad you brought up this topic. Some people think I am confident, I just have bold moments that I try to make a practice. The biggest part of confidence is facing fear of judgment & failure. I always feel lucky for the moments I failed so that I know what I don't want and I never have to go back. && if the said failure happens again, who cares? I've already been through this shit. I am also my biggest critic which is a defense mechanism, but it works for me so I can create the best things in life that I enjoy. Your story is so interesting. Love hearing about your manifestation. It is inspiring.

Great advice Daniel ! I recently became a gym instructor and Personal trainer n though i can do the one2one stuff easily enough, my lack of confidence stops me doing tutorial classes? The idea of standing at the front of a room interacting n shouting moves at a studio full of people scares the shit outta me!
Thank you for sharing this! There are things here I can try to improve!

I have been practicing and studying card manipulation/ deception for 15 years privately in my basement. Hidden from my wife and kids and coworkers. I have never mustered up the confidence to show my skills to anyone because I feared their reactions. This video has motivated me to stand up and show off a little. Face fear and go for it. Afterall what’s the point of have a Lambo parked in the garage if you are too afraid to drive it.

  • @swyftty2

I think this video and you are on the right track. Confidence is somewhat like power, it is in your head. But what does this look like to others. How can you tell when you have achieved confidence. I am 30 this September and my wife of a few years ago says she thought that when she first met me some years ago I was arrogant. That I thought I was better than other people. I never thought I was better at anything than anyone. I just live unapologetically . I live for me and live in a way that resonates with my own being. I don't do things very often that I don't want to do, or that I do 't see benefit in. I am still a caring person, but I don't dwell on my errors. I apologize as I need to then move immediately to fix the problem. Even now, I am a caregiver to a very controlling and sickly wife. Literally I gave up my job to take care of her, she has MO ey to pay for bills but I have no control over money. I have cards and use cards try to fill in in place of all the hobbies that my wife took away from me. I use to hike canoe fish camp game, I had a job I was progressing in before I got married, I was able to save and get what I wanted, I even had an unsuccessful business that I knew how to fix. I now have none of that, and am left with cards, a hobby I didn't even have till everything else was taken away from me. I now cling to cards despite my wife hating them. She thinks I will gamble from my card odssesion, when where my heart lies now in cardistry and sleight of hand tricks. So even with nothing of my previous life I live unapologetically in card releases, cataloging their details and the art of cardisrtry. This little sliver of me is what drives my day anymore. When I share that with anyone and bring about a sense of wonder it really makes me joyful. Given the opportunity I would reclaim my old me for certain and the many things I give up, but despite the resistance towards my cards I work them each day and it let's me know that while I am at this point the of so little me, there is more me to find and live in. It keeps my head held high.

The biggest thing that gives me confidence and pushes me everyday is that I am going to die someday, so I have no time to loose ....

  • @ShayPatrickCormacTHEHUNTER

in my journey of psychological thinking I discovered that confidence actually doesn't exist. But what does is comfortability , assurance and ego or self perception . All these things are gained by experience so I think that anyone who isn't confident (I would include myself in that list kinda) shouldn't think of it as some issue they need to fix but as experience they lack. If you get the experience you will get the "confidence" also. it is not fake it till you make it but its like when you learn how to walk. It takes time and experience... I think ancient people didn't have any issues in confidence at all. So maybe all the psychological wisdom our ancestors had was lost or ignored because of our modern day pride of being smarter than the ancients...

I felt similar awhile ago but now it's not a thing because everyone is thinking the same and if you come away with a new friend or an idea or uderstanding on how to get better with cards or confidence. ......Tell me how could you NOT go ? Hey guys! Mic is right & you must go, Thomas. I don't know if my story is silly or if it will help but magic meet-ups helped me so much with depression. I was super depressed and not knowing what I wanted in life. I didn't want to go anywhere when people asked. I would go to work and go home and did not want to deal with having friends. My boyfriend, Jacob, and I found magic in August last year and the next month in September, Art of Play had an Open House in San Diego with Chris Ramsay two hours from my house. I decided to take the time off work & rent a car with Jacob and go to the meet-up. By complete chance, we ended up running into Chris Ramsay in the city beforehand, and it changed my perspective seeing how cool and real he was. When we got to the meet-up, there were similar nervous novices to magic like Jacob and me, but also nervous well-known and skilled magicians. I could see that just because these magicians are well-known among the community doesn't mean they don't get nervous or anxious. That made me feel a little bit better about my own nerves and I felt completely at home and I was even able to welcome those in conversations that seemed anxious as well. I highly recommend going. Don't ever give up, Thomas! You got this!

    • @hudders11
      @hudders11 Před 6 lety +1

Andria Smith thanks for the kind words. I in no way wanted to start a pity party for myself. I'm trying to be more honest and up front with people about my issues with confidence so when I'm quiet or nervous, people understand why. I don't know why it's so hard to say you know what, I'm not OK. I'm riddled with anxiety, overly self aware and self critical and it makes life hell at times. If anything, let's get it out there that that's OK. Look what you've started, Mr madison! Haha

I do believe that confidence is a virtue but its also a weapon confidence is the reason is that human kind has prosper but if you're not careful it can become into ego which is almost the opposite there's a very thin line between these two i am not telling anyone not to believe in themsself but I am saying not to take it further beyond I am not referring to Daniel im talking in general I do believe that he is That he is one of the best kings of cards. The way he thinks is an interesting way of approaching confidence and dealing with it .Its intriguing to see Daniel holding up to lives problems and overcoming them . Hey Daniel Madison, question, what about the exact opposite? What I'm afraid the most of confidence is if I step over the bound of confidence itself, and it's not matching my actual works. In other words, what if you actually get over-confident with yourself? Like, where's the sweet spot?

    • @swyftty2

Aulia Rahmat , here's the thing man. If you have any shareable skill you just go through the steps. Obviously grow in skill so you don't repeat often, but confidence applies to life. Live each moment in the way you feel is best. That usually doesn't involve tearing down others and you don't worry about mistakes, if you make one, correct and move on. That's it, do the things that will make you feel completed.
