  • The Petlyakov Pe-2, known as the "Peshka," was a vital asset to the #sovietunion during #worldwar2 . Initially designed as a high-altitude interceptor under the supervision of detained engineer Vladimir Petlyakov, it became one of the most effective light bombers of the war. Its dual Klimov M-105PF V-12 engines provided a top speed of 580 km/h, an 8,800-meter service ceiling, and a range of 1,160 kilometers, all while carrying up to 1,600 kg of bombs. The Pe-2 was renowned for its speed, agility, and precise bombing, making it a formidable tool in supporting ground forces. Even though it faced significant hurdles during the initial stages of the German invasion, the aircraft's effectiveness improved over time, making it an essential part of the #Soviet counter-offensive and earning it a distinguished place in #aviation #history. #aviationhistory #aircraft #war
