a great perspective on how his suffering, his burden and long ass life changed him. How it was twisting his personality ever so slightly over the eons.
His smile there right before he vanishes in endwalker. Gets me every damn time. As usual I can’t help but feel he knows something we don’t. Mayhap we will meet again, there at journeys end. That wouldn’t be so bad, would it?
I think it wasn’t that he knew something more but that he knew at last everything that the WoL knew and what they did to save Etherys. He knew what secrets there are for us to explore but I think mostly he finally knew that we were worthy all along and bested everything he had ever thrown at us.
It took me awhile to realize on why Emet ended up helping us during Shadowbringer fighting Elidibus, its because his soul was cleaned when we defeated him and him ending up remembering our time with him during Eitherys.
@@Trattato68 That too and also just to simply fuck with Elidibus. And who can blame him, imagine you spending aeons with nobody but that rambling lunatic Lahabrea who couldn't prepare one single profound and captivating villainous speech without falling back to the same worn out pathos if all the lifes on aetherys depended on it and that bore Elidibus who is that kind of colleague that has only his work and no fun in mind, he can't even go out for a drink with him to loosen him up because he's still a minor. And then there's that foolish sophist Fandaniel who really needs some yoga and therapy in his life. And last but not least Venat also known as the pain in his arse, who surely set all of that up purely for the sake of some very wittless and petty joke at HIS cost. Combine that with the fact that amongst all of that there was Hythlodaeus to creat the necessary levity for his mental and spiritual health by being a beautiful cinnamon role, too good for this word, too pure, we also have the necessary explanation and full justification why he may have ended up being a little bit mean and on the edge when we first met him.
I don't think so. I think Emet-Selch was the only Ascian that was able to concede there was another way to accomplish their goals. He believed in the slim possibility of finding someone(s) that would be worthy of carrying his burden (keeping the Ascians memory alive and being stewards of their star). That's why he says he's been testing everyone for eons and found them wanting, nobody ever measured up until the warrior of light and his comrades. Not only does he come to realize that the hero of light is an old friend (or at least someone he knew) but also that he is walking alongside another of his shards (Ardbert). That's why he says it's a "trick of the light". Long story short, Emet-Selch was pretty much committing su1cide by warrior of light, but he couldn't just rollover and let him win because only a true victory would prove the hero of light (and comrades) to be worthy of carrying the mantle.
@@-a-s-a-s- I mean, they did confirm his memories were altered in Endwalker. That was the whole part of why they took the time to explain how aether affects memory near the beginning of the expac, and then everything that happens in Elpis with Kairos. Personally, I think it's a matter of both-he was content just before he died that first time because we did prove ourselves to him, but then urged to cooperate when the WoL summoned him back because the aetherial sea essentially restored him.
Emet-Selch is pretty much a master class on how to create an in-depth character that can capture the hearts of the player even while being a villain. And the way his character is presented to the player and how his true motives/personality are unfolded before us was handled amazingly.
@@sgraves835 He absolutely was. He committed genocide *countless* times. He destroyed *worlds* in pursuit of his goals. In the end, it doesn't matter what his goals were, because of what he did to get there. That doesn't mean that he wasn't a really compelling character, and it doesn't mean that he had bad intentions, either. But good intentions do not excuse genocide. Genocide is wrong no matter why you did it.
'Do you ever tire from shuffling your feet' My favourite thing to do during my replay of shadowbringers and endwalker was to talk to Emet at every possible opportunity. I adore him.💕
In Shadowbringers I always felt this tiredness of Emet.. and only in Endwalker I understood truly.. It's a testament of this best of best games how great the voiceactor and animators could portray that 100 thousand year old soul being simply exhausted after all this time of trying to bring his friends back.
I love how Emet's comment of cooperation was one of basically attempting to use us but, ironically enough, when it was all said and done, what won the day was the pair of them helping each other.
This was so brilliant. The enemy that we all loved and we never knew why we loved him so much even tho he was trying to destroy the our world.. we were always drawn together even in the deepest of sadness and anger.. we knew him and he ... he was drawn to us too
That sequence from 1:45 to 2:17 was just amazing. The dialogue choice, the scenes the way it all just flowed so beautifully with the music. This whole video was breathtaking. Thank you for making it
This was incredible. The music, the dialogue, the imagery. So many feelings revisited, so many tears in my eyes by the end... And then the end. XD Truly brilliant. I wish I could like more than once.
For real, that first cut scene he showed up I was intrigued but not too much, but i didn't imagine his story would turn out to be so god damn EPIC. Easily my favorite FF storyline ever, ever.
Everything about Emet I love so much his attitude his care for his brethren the finger snap. When we summoned him in the end my heart burst I was so happy to see him again and he came still with his same attitude telling us to explore we will always remember that you once lived Emet ❤️
Really awesome video Emet Selch is a once in a Decade type of Villain, and the only Villain in a FF game that i actually sympathize with All he is to me is the Other side of the coin, not separate from "Good" The writer deserved that standing ovation she got few years ago, simply BRAVO!!! I love and admire Emet even though i wish he chose a different path, but a man of his convictions he is, and for that he didn't just earn my respect, he damn well demanded it. Bravo !!!!!!!!!!!!
best.... story ever... . sometimes i just want to drag my friends into ffxiv.. for this.. to experience the story.... the depth.. the past melding with the future.. everything.......... and how this story scarred me for life yet also, gave me strength i never knew i had
My favorite thing about Emet-Selchs's design is that he is always slightly haunched over as to symbolize that he is carrying a heavy burder and about how heavy it truly weighs on him. He doesnt stand purely upright compared to his other Ascian comrades he bears the burden with pride even if it is crushing him. He was evil but he was undertandable. Man i love this game.
It occurs to me everything flawed about Emet's viewpoint is summed up in his line about the victor determining whose the hero and whose the villain. He views everything in black and white, that everything is a zero sum game and that to succeed you need total control. Meanwhile the answer is much more nuanced, in the end there is no true villain to vanquish, no absolute good or evil, only fear, uncertainty, doubt, loneliness and a poor little girl and a sad old man, both in need of not a savior or a dominator or a hero or villain or tyrant, but a friend.
I mean no Ill here I'm confused and getting mixed signals here- is he hero, a villain or what? Kinda gives shadow the hedgehog vibes on steroids.😂 Tho I don't envy the poor loporits that imitates him XD
He's a person that did despicable things for a cause he thought was just. Let's put ourselves in his shoes for a moment. Everything and everyone you ever knew and loved is stripped from you, fragmented into what you would consider "lesser beings". What do you do? Do you say "Oh well, guess the only choice is to move on"? Or do you do anything in your power to restore your home and loved ones, even if it means destroying "lesser" beings? I think most of us would choose the latter and find a way to cope with our decisions, convincing ourselves it is for the greater good. But even beyond that, there is another layer to Emmet-Selch; he was the only remaining, non fragmented Ascian that believed there to be another option, other than destroying the current worlds to remake his own. If you listen to him, he says "[f]or eons have I measured your worth and found you wanting" and "you cannot be entrusted with our legacy". What does this mean? It means that the entire time, Emmet-Selch was not convinced that the only way forward was through destroying the sharded worlds but that if he found someone(s) capable of bearing the burden of their legacy and ensuring the new sharded worlds move in the right direction, then that would be just as good. And Emmet-Selch knew that whoever would meet his criteria for carrying their legacy would have to be capable of besting him in true combat; meaning he knew that finding that second solution would inevitably result in his own death. TLDR; he is more of a villain but in my opinion he really isn't hero or villain; just a sad man, operating in morally grey areas, doing whatever it takes to bring his loved ones back or put the sharded worlds in the hands of someone he trusts to also carry on their legacy.
"I also take offense to my portraial as a megalomaniacal madman!"
*cut to Solus laughing maniacally*
Excellent work!

He'll be reborn. I am curious wether we notice him or not.
I hope they wait for us. We were all supposed to return to the star together. 🥲
For you maybe. Emet-Selch wants nothing to do with it. ^_~

god if journey's end ends up being like a tie in to a sequel MMO that would be insane.
It took me awhile to realize on why Emet ended up helping us during Shadowbringer fighting Elidibus, its because his soul was cleaned when we defeated him and him ending up remembering our time with him during Eitherys.
That too, but the main reason is because Elidibus isn't capable to continue the rejoinings and desire to put him to rest.

He's more an anti-hero than a true villain' he did some crazy bad stuff but his reasons for doing so were technically sound.
