Trump has also been saying this line about Green Cards since 2015.
True. And a crapshoot with a FERENGI POTUS beats electing idiot Romulans.
For those of you too young to remember. This has been going on for 30 years now. Employers are saying Americans aren't smart enough to do some jobs, when what they really mean is that they aren't cheap enough. Nothing new here.
Glad to see some people get it.
Yep.
They want Lamborghini workers but pay Smart Car wages. And if they can't find a Lamborghini RIGHT NOW (or someone connected), they generally hire nobody and just keep grinding down the workers who remain. I've never seen bosses more greedy, selfish, and lazy than the bosses of the past ten years.
Correct I constantly hear that from our IT dept. that it is hard to find those with the right skill sets. This is up and down from walls street company to government entity
I get paid way more than American engineers lol. If you stop this, those jobs and the tens of thousands I pay in taxes and what I contribute to the economy just goes to India. Microsoft and Amazon have massive HQ2s there already with like 25k people in each office.
WRONG! This has always been the case. What's new it has moved from unskilled workers to the skilled and white collar classes AND it began in the late 1970's.
As someone who lived in a country with this kind of policy, unless there are SERIOUS restrictions on how many international students colleges can admit, this WILL lead to colleges selling visas to international students who learn nothing from their degree and go on to work as Uber drivers or at McDonalds

Don't they teach it already? Universities especially big name universities have so much money they do not need to operate at all.

Sagar is absolutely right on this one. As a US citizen working in the tech industry, I have first hand experience on seeing how H1B visa applicants are negatively affecting the skilled labor market for average Americans. These jobs are usually upper middle class jobs which used to be the backbone of the US economy but now wages are being kept suppressed artificially by allowing overseas workers to flood the job market and accepting much lower wages than a US citizen with similar qualifications just so that they can continue to stay in this country. I respect the need to retain foreign talent to the United States, but only with super highly skilled jobs that a company has done it's absolutely due diligence to make sure another American couldn't fill first. But policies like this ultimately hurt middle class Americans and help the wealth gap divide further as Trump, his wealthy friends who own companies and and other CEOs get richer and normal Americans face harder times and higher inflation.
Correct.
The Canadian job market has already been taken over by immigrants who migrated to Canada after 2016.
Completely agree
Also in tech. Very similar experience. Wages suppressed at my company for this exact reason.
The upper middle class will suffer.

When you're a high tech worker with 10s of thousands of dollars in student debt and struggling to find work, it's really frustrating hearing people say we don't have enough people in tech. The market is really tough right now, and there are plenty of people not getting work. We do not need to bring in more people. Illegal (Unauthorized) immigration is down from its peak in 2010. Its at about the same level as during Trump years. The current crisis is the increase in asylum seekers who legally present themselves at ports of entry because they know our system can’t adjudicate their claim for 5 years.
This is Krystal’s way of hating
MAGA isn’t against legal immigration. Trump is right. We need smart, educated people willing to invest in the US.
MAGA is absolutely against legal immigration 😂😂😂😂
America First voters are for a immigration moratorium
Americans with USEFUL degrees can't find work because educated immigrants can do the same job for less pay and are easily controlled by conditional visas, that means they'll get deported if they don't obey their boss.
You just want one very specific kind of person that looks like you
Except they want to make legal immigration even harder than it is.
This will ruin college admissions and tuition for US citizens. Universities will then allocate greater portion of student body to "full tuition" paying foreigners and also raise tuition because they know those wanting a green card will pay exorbitant amounts of money for it.
If you're against outsourcing jobs, then you should be against insourcing labor. They're two sides of the same coin - sad to see the lack of critical thinking in the comments here.
A lot of it isn't only a lack of critical thinking. It's also a weird obsession with defending Trump no matter what.
It’s not the same though because by living here they become part of the local economy. It’s way better than outsourcing.

@@ragnong9680 there are many unemployed engineers and tech workers at the moment. Some of my friends have been looking for like 8 months plus. After the tech slow down, they didn't rehire American, they hired from overseas. Leaving some American tech workers on the outside looking in

As an Indian immigrant who went through the H1b system myself , I think this is not a good idea. This will open the floodgates and drastically increase the stem workforce overnight and suppress the wages( not to mention US Citizens grad s including stem are already fining hard to land their first job.) STEM is probably one of the only few areas where people can make good money and have a middle class life. These tech elites don’t like this and that’s they trying to import immigrants to suppress wages and make themselves richer. Also when US CITIZENS realize that their wages are being suppressed due to this they are going to be more hostile towards legal immigrants. As Saagar mentioned The colleges are going to green cards mills.
Don’t believe me look at Canada. In spite of having merit based system when they issued a lot of PR ( green card ), wages got supressed, housing got more unaffordable and now everyone including the immigrants are struggling. I know a lot stem immigrants with a lot experience who came to Canada cannot get a job and now forced to food delivery jobs. It’s horrible there.
My point is there should always to be limit of how much of people are getting green cards to make the wages more stable and not affect the existing citizens.
Exactly!
Well said!
Spot on! This is yet another way to suppress wages and worsen working conditions of American citizens. If these tech workers are tied to jobs through their visas are they really going to rock the boat? Also seems like a ploy to funnel these people into the republican voting block.
Its not even STEM specific degree. A 2 year degree from any field would also qualify.
thank you for sharing your perspective. you actually know what you’re talking about!
Well spoken, thank you for sharing your perspective
Oh my god, I’m agreeing w Steve Bannon. I had to move away from my hometown because all the jobs in the sector I work in, in that area, were taking by foreign workers. Now I live 7 hours away from my aging parents. I don’t mind having immigration but it should be spread out and moderate. It shouldn’t box ppl out of entire sectors in certain areas. I’m on the left by the way, but I do believe in moderation w immigration paired with work/education programs for local people to build our local workforce. You can’t take your eyes off these politicians, they can’t be trusted. Democrats and Republicans alike. We need campaign finance reform badly.
Tech companies always liked those visas. Even in the 1980s my brother, an electrical engineer, complained that they would hire someone with this visa for less money, but since that reduced salary was a fortune compared to their home country salary, these visa holders were willing to work 12 to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. How can an american tech worker compete with that?
BS. Those immigrants went to schools as good as MIT / Stanford. And American engineers that do STEM at top schools aren’t afraid of the competition.
AlexXPandian well, sorry, but that is an actual experience from an actual person AND his coworkers at that time, at a tech company that employed 5000 people at one facility, and invented many of the technologies we still use today. If an American engineer could go work for a one year, 3 year , or 5 year contract in a European country, and earn 10x his salary back home in America (so think $150k in the usa vs $1.5 million in europe), you don't think he would be willing to sacrifice for that contract period and work super long hours, because when done and back home he would be wealthy? Most normal americans don't want to become an engineer to work 12+ hour days 7 days a week for the next 40 years at an average salary for their trade. Who do you think the boss would prioritize hiring?

Because if americans are educated and able to hold jobs in high position, who will die for israel?
Unfortunately a lot of Americans just don't want to. I have a lot of legal immigrant friends and they often get jobs in the US because the company couldn't find any Americans to do it (high paying jobs too)
Robotreg that’s bullshit but okay
@RobotReg , that is BS. People avoid college because of how expensive it is, and there is no guarantee they will get a job once they graduate. If the government created a program that gave free education and a guaranteed job, classes would fill up quickly. Second, corporations set up offices in other countries to have migrants work for their company on a visa that offers no benefits and low wages to avoid paying Americans higher wages with benefits. I know this because I have worked for a few corporations that did this.
Because American labor is expensive 😂
I don't think this means what you think it means.
No one who would vote for trump sees this as a bad thing.
People are concerned with millions pouring over the border, not the few that obtain degrees.
Until more for profit schools pop up that focus on getting as many of these illegal immigrants to sign up for school with them and allow them into the country for the small price of a college loan.
Krystal is so delusional
And all the illegals already here will sign up for college to get their green cards in 2 years.
The point was that Trump himself was fully against this idea until it benefited his campaign funding. BTW hasn't Biden deported more illegals that Trump?

You're missing the point. TRUMP BANNED H-1B VISAS IN HIS FIRST TERM and now he's flipping on it. Furthermore, it IS potentially harmful for American citizens because they can import cheaper labor from India and China. This is exactly the reason he banned it in his first term and now he's flipped because he's getting money from Tech oligarchs.
It’s a bad policy. Especially that there are no qualifiers on what type of skills or degree the people earn. It creates a secondary benefit for foreign students that undercuts American students and workers by extension.
It means someone can spend $60k to get a liberal arts associates degree, in gender studies, from a community college and it’s essentially buying their way into the U.S. and take a job that would otherwise go to a native citizen.
If Trump wants to satisfy the need for highly technical skilled employees, he should set the bar to admit work visas only for those people with those skills, and in the interim, fix the problem that’s making those career paths out of reach for US citizens.

I’m American, my brother married an Australian woman, they have children, the amount of background checks and hoops my brother had to jump through to get his citizenship was insane. Keep in mind my brother has a well paying white collar job and no criminal record.
I've also lived overseas. I agree. If our immigration policies were based on reciprocity, no one would be getting into America. If people entering the US truly believed in open borders, they would've opened up their own countries. The reality is that immigration is entirely self-serving for the individuals and businesses involved. Freedom of movement and the opportunities it opens up is a privilege people keep for themselves and refuse others.
Wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for sharing
Could you describe what you think the process is for a skilled immigrant (e.g. scientist) moving to the US is versus Canada?
Then stop intervening with other countries. Political and economic interventionism is what conservatives like you would like to overlook because you can’t handle that criticism.

Trump cut legal immigration by almost half on his first term.
This podcast shows that Trump did flip on this policy and he just lost my vote!
an immigrant with no degree working on an American farm for 12 hours everyday contributes far more to our country than an immigrant with a college degree who gets hired by some tech start-up in Silicon Valley

You can't eat a microchip.
As long as your daddy can pay for university you get to be a US citizen
Who ever said that? Stop trying so hard to be a victim. Many foreign students take student loans to go to college
Krystal must have come up with the title of this video.
MAGA is not against legal immigration for people that can contribute to our society.
Well then fuck maga
Hey, somebody has to do Kyle's hair.
Trump said basically the same thing in 2016. It's dumb we educate someone then don't let them stay to apply the education
Except he banned h-1b visas preventing people from staying and applying the education.
Yeah, I would support that if incentives were involved for brains to stay in the homeland. But no party in the Establishment cares. Not even your trumpy-boy. They'll say anything for your vote.
Stop spreading misinformation, everybody knows that Trump cut legal immigration by almost half on his first term. This podcast shows that Trump did flip on this policy and he just lost my vote!
@@homeygdoggydogg He didn't ban H1B visa, he just made the requirement to get one more stringent.
@@Sid00077 not quite. In late june he DID ban h-1b visa entrants (and some other work visa entrants).
Trump's ban was challenged in court and overturned. Once it was overturned he passed laws making it more stringent and more expensive for employers to sponsor immigrants.
Your episode title is disingenuous and WRONG! Trump spoke of giving a green card to legal immigrants who have graduated from college. This would encourage them to stay in the US and contribute their sought after skill sets.
This is a revolving door for the U.S. and wages for tech employees, doctors, etc., will never go up since they’ll have a pool of employees willing to earn less than the one who has been with the company for a long time.
Close the border, fix the legal immigration system. People shouldn't be waiting 10+ years and forking over thousands of dollars to become a US citizen.
Let me tell you I’ve hired people who were days from getting sent home after graduating. They worked out great and became citizens. One hire brought in his fiancée who was a doctor and she became a citizen as well.
I don’t know what Trump’s opinion was years ago but I think he was always for legal immigration.
Trump previously tried to ban H1B visas. On April 18, 2017, Trump issued the administration’s first public directive against H-1B visas via the “Buy American and Hire American” executive order
There are countless stories like this. The STEM immigrants have a lot to offer. Trumps gotten a lot wrong in his 2024 campaign so far, this isn’t one of them.
Trump's proposed policy last time would have greatly restricted family-based migration, which was what your hire used to bring his fiancé.
Trump fans claim he's for legal immigration, but his actions last time show he's opposed to legal immigration as well.
Nah he was not for legal immigration during his first term. Remember when he tweeted in the middle of the night that he is halting all immigration to US and all people on visas like H1B couldn’t be allowed in until someone struck it down. I was on a visa during trump administration and I know a lot of horror stories for people on visa getting denied a stamping or the consulates stalling to give a decision so that your employer would dump you.
Nah. If ur gonna do all that, people should be required to have a green card before they can attend college here.
Krystal: "I support higher immigration levels" 8:45
What? I am the child of an immigrant who ran away from home and crossed the southern border as a teenager, so I have sympathy for immigrants. I want a much better more streamlined system where legal immigration is clear and relatively easy. But I don't want MORE total immigrants than the millions we are already getting.
It's always been clear that Trump doesn't believe a single word he says. He just actually pays attention to public opinion and switches his stance to the opposite of whatever unpopular stance his opponents have. Not being ideological makes this easy for him.
Isn’t skilled / trained / educated (dr.s or nurses) immigration better than mass border open immigration
he didnt say doctors and nurses, he said ALL college graduates.
Yeah, why bother educating our own kids when we can import educated workers from foreign countries?
@@You51Dog Yeah, I caught that, too. The way MAGA is going at it, it seems they just want imported brains to think for them. Who cares about their own education? Their coddled hubris is so transparent.
Drs and Nurses would be the rarity. You're more likely going to get a flood of cheaper 2 year associate degrees in various easy fields. And all of those would count.
"The Anheuser family literally cut him a check."
Of course. That's what always happens with Trump. He's easily purchased if you have enough money.
Im with Krystal on a lot but how can she rightfully shed a tear for the economic wows of younger people and then say we need more high skill laboured immigration in literally the same day. Sorry lady but you can only pick one.

A deliberate, misleading, underhanded, shit stirring headline. Just why is this different from what establishment media does?
What's misleading here? His initial position was he was against this type of immigration and we know this becaue he banned H-1B visas his first term. And now because he got some money from tech oligarchs who want cheap labor imported from China and India, he's flipped and saying he's going to grant H-1B visas for just graduating colleges.
@@homeygdoggydogg - H1B is much broader than he’s outlining here.
HOW is it any different? 🤔
@@rdf4ta927 that's false. H-1B visa is for highly specialized employment with a 4-year bachelor degree as minimum. This is exactly what they're talking about.
@@avery_zx - H1B visas can be issued to any qualified labor as long as that person has obtained a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a foreign university that can be considered comparable to a US university. This policy is targeted at those that get their degrees in the US, so it’s certainly different and more nuanced.
What is the problem, conservatives are not complaining about legal immigration they are furious at illegal immigration and people will low skills coming and taking the low skilled jobs from americans, I expect Krystal to twist everything Trump says but Saagar is now just as bad.

Didn't he suspend H-1b visas?

They want educated workers? Then tax corporations and the rich to pay for college education for American kids who can't afford to go to college. That's what we used to do.
It's becoming more and more obvious that RFK. Jr is the best option.
How is two years of college going to benefit The country?
Its going to benefit the people who own these institutions and the politicians who take their money. This is how all politics works in reality
I have a friend. He works in home improvement. He is a hard worker and skilled. He is slowly taking classes at a community college. If he graduated, he could get citizenship and continue to be a productive member of society, with peace of mind. He loves this country more than most extreme liberals.
That would help USA.
What government program/policy is perfect. Sure, some colleges may hand out these too easily, but aren’t we supposed to have a system to check for this?
Yup, need 4 year or more.
How is four years?
vocational schools FTW.
well, he's no better than Biden now
To be fair, strong immigration laws used to be a mainstay of the political left... because cheap labor from visa holders and illegal immigrants harms skilled/unskilled workers, and helps reduce labor costs for corporations to increase profit margins.
Why can't someone change their mind? We can all go back and look at almost every politician being against gay marriage and that a purely individual moral mind change. Changing your mind on immigration status of people that can positively effect our country seems like a logical change.
I'm done. I'm double dog done. America for the Americans. Who can represent MAGA?

how about if we make it affordable for our kids to get into these colleges and get the tech training and the good jobs first? this country is absolutely f'd
Crystal, you forgot to mention that you support more immigration.
You just gotta love Saagar’s grift. As if such visas didn’t allow his very wealthy parents to come to the US to begin with and have him here. If Saagar is so concerned about “Americans” losing opportunities to foreigners, shouldn’t he publicly call for his parents, and anyone else who came here through these visas, to be deported? Btw, this proposal would be so much better for Americans that the H1B visas since this potential visa would be uncoupled from employers so these foreign-born workers wouldn’t not need to accept low-ball offers to stay in the country. That means that the avg compensation would go up for everyone in that field as opposed to companies using these visas to artificially bring down overall compensation by hiring these desperate foreign-born workers
The increased supply of workers would depress wages much more heavily than them not needing to accept lowball offers would raise them. The average salary for a foreign born worker might rise but the average salary overall for Americans would fall.
Correct. Every Indian that comes here on H1B drives down wages for all workers in their industry due to desperation. If an employer lowballs you, you aren't going to say no when you know your visa status is based on saying yes.
@@rickdeckard4735 Are you under the impression that these foreign workers aren’t already here and that this visa would somehow drive more people to come? These workers already exist. They are just part of the h1b visa program so they are just depressing wages for everyone in their sector right now. No one was like “you know what? I would go to school in the US if only I didn’t have to be part of the h1b visa program afterwards”. The salaries of the h1b visa workers are still much much higher than what they can get back home and obviously they get to stay in the US on top of that.
Not really. Since corporations could then pay for your college to get that green card (different than a visa as a green card holder has way more rights under the law than a visa worker does and a more direct pathway to citizenship) and have you under contract, with if you get let go or quit you have to pay back the cost of your college to them. Which means they are effectively indentured servants working off an impossible debt. Because if they do quit or demand more money, they are suddenly hit with 10s of thousands of dollars of debt.
The corporations know they can offer this to foreign workers desperate for a way in and they will snatch it up just to get a green card and eventually citizenship
@@playea123 Of course they're here now, and they currently have to get lucky in the h1b lottery. If they all just got automatic green cards then more of them would stay. I'd personally like to see the h1b visa suspended indefinitely - it shouldn't exist for any sector in which we have unemployed Americans.
