What I've realized watching this video back is that this was hella validation for Zack and Jordan's personal interests, allowing them to get the high scores on the Piano and Basketball machines respectively that no one else could've done.
For the hammer swing the trick is to not just do speed but also control. You want to hit it close to the center of the button because that's where the most momentum transfer will happen. A good tip to handle both us swing it like an axe. Put one hand on the top of the handle and the other towards the bottom. Then as you swing, slide the upper hand towards the bottom, thus creates more fulcral momentum and allows for better area control
Any sort of athletic background would make the physical ones easier because like you said it’s not even about pure strength. Like with the punching one you gotta use your body more and less of your arm

I dedicate all my time to Grand Piano Keys whenever I go to an arcade, and I feel it's all payed off cause I can beat Little Z at it. My high score is 84!
I guess the claw machines have changed since the early 90’s when I used to play them at the movie theaters… I had a collection of smaller stuffed animals that my brother and I would win from playing them.
