    great band. discovered them in 1996 at the Continental Club in Austin Texas, a few months later I was at their gig in Nijmegen, Netherlands.

      Not quite. Song was written in Los Angeles in 1954 by Ralph Mooney ( the great pedal steel man) and Charlie Seals. Ralph was playing in Wynn Stewart’s band and Wynn sang the demo record which was cut at a tiny studio in Pasadena, CA where there used to be a country radio station.

      Nope. Written by Ralph Mooney and Charlie Seals in L.A.back in 1954. Ralph was playing pedal steel for Wynn Stewart who make the demo acetate for showing the song.

      They can say all they want that Mooney wrote the song and that is wrong. I have the 45 rpm record that shows Willie Nelson wrote the song just as Ring of fire was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore and was performed by Johnny Cash
