  • Please note - This video is for educational purposes only and I don't recommend you make one yourself. Although it costs much less than buying a ready made steam boiler, there are quite a few dangers in doing it yourself. The boiler is now finished and working perfectly (personally, I think it's a work of art).
I couldn't find any in-depth videos or tutorials on how to make a boiler, so I had to go by instinct.
I'm only sharing my experiences and learning curve with you all because you wanted it.
Not long after I recorded this video, I discovered MAP gas which is MUCH better than a standard butane torch and it does the job perfectly but please DON'T TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN unless your name is Tony and you're a complete idiot. I think my e-Bike and scooter are safer than doing this but unfortunately, I'm still in constant pain so I can't ride either of them 😔
Parts list (things I've shown so far)

    108mm copper pipe - ebay.to/3pVpRK9
    Silver solder - ebay.to/2MESuwV
1/4" copper tube for heat exchangers - ebay.to/3cTBRIJ

After I realised you really were going to get rid of the soft solder and redo it with silver solder, I started to relax and enjoy the build.
Love your transparent, honest and good-humoured presentation over all four videos.
Your boiler - despite being built with DIY tools - is a thing of beauty.
Great idea to use a camping stove as background heat for silver soldering - may well copy that!

Mate, your vids are one of the best ways of chilling out that I know PLUS I always learn something new, like I said before I think.
Thanks, as always - can't wait for the next.

Your right about that old boiler it's seen much better days literally falling apart at the seams . That boiler your making looks really good already I wouldn't know where to start your getting a dab hand at that silver soldering now. Looking forward the the next two parts like you said it works perfectly as we new it would I bet it looks great as well polished up.

You might be disappointed.... there are very little polished parts but yes, it works perfectly 😁

  • @EverythingEbikeChannel

Wow when you polish the bits, it looks so good! Couldn't even begin to build something like this so fair play! I'll stick to crazy ebikes :)

Don't do it, it's not as easy as I thought. Even now I know how to do it, I'd never do it again 😬

For soldering copper alone, there are sticks that do not need solder paste "phosphor copper stick"

Love your new Pipe Bomb Tony...lol...Silver Solder comes in different flavours regarding melting temps you know..Use some House bricks to make a heat reflector when soldering, keeps the heat on it...🤔😳🇬🇧

    • @Vortecks
      @Vortecks  Před 3 lety +2

If I had somewhere to put house bricks that wouldn't set on fire, I would mate. I'm pretty stuck with what I've got and besides, it's all done and working perfectly now 😁

Don't confuse flame temperature with heat energy delivered. A large soft flame will deliver much more heat energy compared a smaller intense flame. Too late I know but....You can place large parts into the kitchen oven to preheat them all the way through. This will allow a lower powered torch to melt and flow the silver solder. When it comes to actually running the boiler those small gas cartridges will cost a fortune look into camping cylinders preferably refillable. Did you concider electric heating with you large E bike batteries or even with a heat gun?

Unfortunately, I have to use what I've got mate. I could do with some fire bricks, I could do with a butane torch connected to a bottle but all I had, was a blowlamp and a camping stove.
It made it much easier after I invested in a MAP gas torch and bottles but it's all done now and that's the way it's staying...... I've had enough of the fumes, smell and danger 😂

I never realized you could get copper end-caps that big....

If you have a copper boiler that has been soft soldered you cannot then silver solder it. There is an interaction with soft and silver solder.
DO NOT MESS WITH STEAM PPRESSURE VESSELS IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!

All off ebay mate. It's not easy to find things but it comes with practice.

MAP gas will do the silver soldering and there are loads of videos on CZcams on building a boiler, 60/40 is no good, there again at least it won't explode because the solder will melt before it goes bang

Oh no!!! messing around with steam boilers is incredibly dangerous, I hope you took the proper safety precautions. so far so good, but still. ♥
had to check , seems 60psi would make the water have a boiling point of 145C, but you said you changed to silver solder so that should be ok.

I don't give a shit about steam machine, really i don't care...a relict from i don't know....10000 years before....but after this video, i'm thinking.....all that effort to understand, all that enthusiasm....how can i say now ''i don't care'' ''fuck you'' ''Dislike for this shit'' ? I can't do it. In fact, i don't know how to replace the bulb, not because i don't know but because i don't want to know. But i like your channel, really something different.
Nice machine, can you produce some spirit with it?
