Story of my ride: Victoria's High Country (pt2) - reaching the finish of Peaks Challenge Falls Creek

- With glorious weather, fabulous roads, a carnival atmosphere, and a beautiful location for cycling, the Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is more than just another bike ride. It is a unifying experience that challenges participants while being welcomed by the local community.
The route for the mass-participation ride covers 235km and includes three major climbs - Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek (via the Bogong High Plains Road, on the eastern side).
This was the first time I rode the Peaks Challenge... but it won't be my last time. It was tiring but the rewards are plentiful. It was a first-class cycling experience that I highly recommend.
This is part two of the story of my ride on Sunday 13 March 2022.

Thanks for sharing you experience and great production!
All I can say Rob is ‘Thank You’. I completed this even in 2019 - awesome! You brought back memories. I struggle lately with all things going on around me and watching your little videos inspire me. Keep them coming.
Thanks for a brilliant VLOG Rob. What a lovely part of the country. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the upload P1 & P2! Beautiful part of this country. Did half of it years ago with a partially mended collar bone but had to pull out at Dinner Plain. Going back in 2024!
There is also a prelude series (from the Saturday); not quite The Big Ride, but an interesting showcase of a beautiful region.
Thanks for the kinds words.

I did this event last year and missed this year's. I loved it when I did it last year and am so glad I found this series - brought back all the memories. Thank you for sharing your day!
As an expat Victorian living in New York, I throughly enjoyed this series. Chapeau Rob, your films are really fabulous. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks a lot Greg. It's nice to know the rides can be enjoyed from far away too...

Rob - you have put together a great vlog of the day & yes you have elevated how special & fantastic the event is. It was great to finally meet you on Saturday. Well done
It was great to chat on the Saturday morning; you were one of the first I spoke to on a weekend when I arrived not knowing what to expect or who I'd see, and I left feeling like I knew the place and a few of the people it attracts, all thanks to cycling. Nice, huh?
Thanks for saying hello.
- Rob
Love that place, and good to see you finished off at Mt Beauty. Can never get enough of it.
Such a great event! This has inspired me to sign up for next year's event. I am glad that you enjoyed the event.
So great to follow along. Great to see you so happy and love the acknowldgement of country.

Great vlogs mate, i'm pumped for 2023! will be my first time!
Great to watch, That road from Omeo to WTF is just amazing. I'm sad we didn't talk you passed me up the back of falls, at the time I didn't recognize you.
Ben, let's talk next time.
I don't know if many were saying too much on the approach to WTF corner. I deliberately stopped so that I can do that section on my own, with my thoughts. And I don't like to rush past beautiful places.

Rode this in 2021, Bicycle Network and the volunteers do an amazing job, it's a credit to them.
My part of the world. Have done the Alpine Classic a few times but have not done this one. In past years I've been up at Hotham with the camera to take pics of the riders through there which was great. Perfect time of year to have this event.
You're blessed to be there. It was only my second time to the area, first was in 2017 for a stage of the Jayco-Herald Sun Tour. I was working. I marvelled at the place, did some work. Went to bed, left. And thought, 'What!? Stay!'
Have been planning to go back ever since, and thrilled that I now have. What a wonderful part of Australia!
(Hope you saw the Saturday series too... I do go on, but I do try to explain how amazed I am at the scenery in Victoria's High Country.)

great piece, summed up the ride very well.
Beautiful footage and editing.
What sort of microphone set-up is that to capture such clear audio?
I'm one of the official photographers. I was shooting a couple of k's before the top of Mt Buller and 1 km before the finish line.
Great work, thank you.
Thanks for the compliment.
I have the GoPro Hero10 with the Media Mod (which, somehow, still have the windsock option ... although it seems impossible to replace the foam element on its own... which is a shame as mine is currently looking worse for wear).
- Rob
thank-you
See you next year.
Great video! What was the camera you filmed with, great footage
On the bike with a GoPro Hero10.
Cheers
