    Thanks for watching. This Greenworks trimmer needed a new trimmer head but they made it very difficult to do it.

    I bought a Greenworks trimmer head replacement (model # 2926507) which didn't match up exactly to my Greenworks 60v trimmer model number but the photos and description in Amazon looked like it was a gamble worth taking. That turned out to be the case.
    Instead of removing the plastic housing, the spacer, fitting the proper nut, etc. I just left the original base piece of the trimmer head in place and replaced all of the other parts (spool, cover, spring-loaded cap, etc.) with the new kit. Getting the spring-loaded cap off was initially a challenge but a flat head screwdriver made that task easy enough to do with the worn out old trimmer head and the spring-loaded cap from the new trimmer head.
    I tested it and it all works well. A big relief because I often lose critical parts if I disassemble the housing around the trimmer head like he demonstrates in the video. Thanks for the video; even though I took a slightly different approach, I wouldn't have been able to fix my trimmer without watching your video.
    I agree with your points about a supposedly "eco-friendly" trimmer not being easy to repair going against the design principles of eco products. I've had mine for a few years at least and the battery hasn't worn out yet. Hopefully it continues to work for a few more years still.

    For others who might take on this project. My Greenworks 80V Pro (different model than video), does not take the #4 adapter from the kit. It takes a 10 millimeter 1.25 fine slope nut. I got that from Ace Hardware without issue. I then cut the brass looking fitting and cut it shorter to allow the threaded nut, tightening it down. You can lock the shaft with a regular head flat screwdriver on the tip of the shaft.
    The green bump stop can be pulled off with force and leverage to open up the shaft location.
    After reassembling the Wind-N-Go Universal Head, everything lined up with the thread cutter, etc; everything functioned as it should.

      @@HomeGaragechannelyou're welcome. The only other thing I did was cut the base off the broken head, sand and clean it up with my dremel, so I could use it as a spacer and retain the electric motor air fan, which is used to keep the brushless motor cooler. I thought it was a good idea, because it was a factory design.

    Things these days seem to be purposely designed "not" to be serviced. Companies like that should be fined as it promotes waste. I am glad you were able to find a solution to keep that trimmer alive.
    I have a Shark Vacuum cleaner, I noticed it wasn't picking up that great with the head. I decided to take it apart to clean it all out, realized the 6 inch hose that goes between the head and the vacuum cleaner broke. Now, Shark made it seem their vacuums are easily serviceable, the head easily removes. But, Shark does not list the hose itself as a replacement part, rather, got to buy a whole new head. I bought the vacuum for $99 + Tax. How much was a replacement head for the machine? $100.
    Meanwhile, getting my caliper out, I was able to measure the diameter of the hose, find some generic bulk vacuum cleaner hose, got the old one out, put the new one in, got it up and running for about $10. The average consumer probably wouldn't even go that far. Of course, the average person might say, "Well, $100 to fix my vacuum? I can get a brand new one for $129 on sale"
    This is true of many modern things including computers, electronics, vehicles, lawn equipment, etc. It's disappointing as designing things to be serviceable is what makes them last. My point is, when a company does seem to make things harder to repair, just makes me want to figure out what is wrong even more.

Took me about 5 minutes. Only downside is the adapters in the kit I bought didn't have the right size. I just cut the one that didn't have threads down to size with my grinder and reused the old shaft nut with a lockwasher.

We like them both for different things, but once we put Echo SpeedFeed 400 heads on the DeWalt, they get used maybe 70% of the time. So far they have held up well, but I did spend a lot of money on plenty of very large batteries. I suppose we'll end up replacing something trimmer-ish but it may end up being the bare tool. We shall see. And one of the options for the zero turn was an Evo (I think) that had 6 batteries and 3 tandem chargers to power everything. Nope. Not having batteries and chargers scattered all over creation to get one rig ready to go and our other stuff is Kobalt and DeWalt. Sweetums is outside trimming as I try and type this so all is well. Still VERY satisfied with the battery zero turn. 5 times mowed and one battery bar each time, gobs of power and easy to run. Don't know how long it takes to recharge but can't be too long with one bar of power used. Always a trade-off somewhere. So GOOD FIX, happy weekend and Blessings

      I did the same thing. I got the 80V GW mower and the GW model 2101202 80V trimmer. But I trashed my old gas trimmer! I have about 10 acres that I maintain with plenty of wild brush so I ditched the string and went to a brush cutter head (Grass Gator 4680 - 3 metal blades!). Been using and abusing since 2019 and just recently changed the blades - they didn't need it, but I felt I should do some kind of "maintenance", lol. I cut small trees (less than 1.5 inches) and plenty of tough weeds. The battery is fine and always outlasts me (I never run it over an hour at a shot). The GW pro mowers (I got 2 I liked them so much) are also going strong.
      UPDATE: I was just looking at the Greenworks site and noticed that they are "sold out" of this model and it seems all of the newer models have the same cheesy motor at the head design. I guess they found out that the old model wasn't needing replacement often enough

Going to have to figure out how to jimmy-rig this trimmer to fit the pivotrim head (the spool that comes with the trimmer is really bad: poorly wound and the weak nylon string snaps within seconds of use on my pavers...pivotrim line lasts till I clear my entire front driveway pavers from weeds).

    What model are you doing this on? I have a st60L02 60 volt. I called the rino tuff company, they said they have nothing compatible because the motor is on top. Any ideas? Greenworks has been out of stock over a year.

    Hey bro what's up? My answer to your question is a firm no. I'm not convinced that these battery powered equipment for landscaping are not suitable for me considering the amount of grass and land area I have to cut in addition to the type of grass I need to cut in my lawn and also in my personal property.

    I just bought mine - 80v model - is there any way to reinforce the bump he’d to prevent the plastic from breaking? Thx for your review - it’s very helpful but I found your channel a month too late!

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  Před 11 měsíci

      thanks, and unfortunately no, unless you replace the bump for one that was much better or thicker plastic, but it's considered a wear item.

    Probably best visible at 3:28... Isn't there a slot at the head end of shaft... Could the flathead screwdriver to be used to hold shaft while unscrewing head? Without removing any covers.

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  Před rokem

      yes I noticed it too, and I even trie using large flathead to hold the shaft But the amount of torque I had to apply to the trimmer head would overcome the flathead.

    Hi! Is it normal for a gas trimmer to speed up as it runs out of fuel? I did this as i was putting it away and got surprised when it started revving up and the clutch engaging. The only info i could find was about 2 stroke dirtbikes on a forum and people said its very bad for the bikes as they run without lubrication until the engine stops. I wanted to get your opinion on how this translates to trimmers. Thanks!

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  Před rokem +3

      yes that's what I find to happen as well... as the fuel runs out the mixture goes lean which will cause the engine to speed up for a few seconds.. it's not related lubrication but then again it is running on mixed fuel.

      Ridiculous that they sell a product that's unusable if the bump head wears out.

    Not cost effective in the long run. It was designed to be a throw away except the batteries need special handling for recycling.
    Where I reside, the Transfer Station does not accept lithium batteries. So, getting electric anything is not feasible for me. If this were me, I would try to fix on my own like you did, but it doesn't appear to be an easy and swift repair. So sad, we have to be forced to live like this. Let those who want electric equipment have it, leave the rest of us alone. The environment is worse off from the batteries that will be just dumped in the trash anyway which is far worse than anything!

    Terrible video…. there is a slot in the end of the shaft that holds the head on for a screwdriver put in screwdriver in the slot after taking off the snap key and just twist. The head did not have to take the whole thing apart now with this new head and no proper coverage over, mechanical parts of motor it’s going to fill full of dirt and wrecked everything
