Best city Ẅellington. You must go to Te Papa, so much to see there, and if you can walk around Zealandia, they have brought back so many birds, especially NZ parrots Kaka and parakeets that now fly around Welly and have even started breeding in the city!
Do sat
Im a South Island West Coaster and yes Wellington is New Zealands best city, I used to own an Engineering company in Welly and loved the City.
Worst City is mini Sydney (Auckland)
Wellington on a nice day is unbeatable! I agree with your Auckland comment. All the best from Sydney.
What makes it mini sydney?
@@klle3419 it’s got a bridge, a harbour, lots of yachts, a tower, too many people (Java’s)
Ahhhh, Marion street - previously know as the call girl street at night.
Must have been a sight
Back in my mother's day, Courtenay Place was the bus station (before it was moved to the train station), and before that it was a tram station, so originally it was very much a Place. In that era, Vivian Street was the centre of the city's night life and red light district. All of the Quay streets used to be the city's waterfront, until the land was progressively reclaimed and the shoreline was pushed back to where it is now. Wellington has indeed changed a lot over the last century and half.
Oriental Bay was where many Italian immigrants lived. Quite a few bought fishing boats and started fish supply businesses. My mum's aunt had a similar old house on the hill above the bay.
Beanbags are owned by Wellington City Council Dept of Bean Bags
I laughed so much at Glen obsessing over whether you were allowed to sit on the bean bags. That's exactly how I would have been too!! 🤣
You can't beat Wellington on a good day!
Yep 3 of them in the last 5 years
We used to live in a beautiful Victorian house across the road from Oriental Bay Beach, but it was torn down a few years after we sold it to build a highrise, sad.
That's what happens and it's awful. I saw a lovely place with beautiful gardens that probably was an old couple's house. It was immaculate place in avondale Auckland. The kids probably wanted a bag of money...? A developer bought it and adjacent properties in Auckland's unplanned rush to increase density. Now it's all multi story apartment blocks. Awful.
There's plenty of dumps near with a bare lawn- where the house could be moved off at some point, but they love to take deceased estates and obliterate.
In the "old days" New Zealanders did not even know what coffee was.
My Italian mum used to tell us that in the 1950's her mum was brewing coffee and the neighbour looked over the fence and asked what the lovely smell was.
Even in the 1970s she had to go to a delicatessen to get roasted coffee beans . All you could get at a supermarket was Nescafe instant.
that’s not true for many parts of the country. In the 1950s and 1960s, many “coffee bars” served coffee made from freshly-ground beans. Places like Stewart’s Coffee House in Dunedin, which was founded in the mid-1950s
Notably, a Kiwi also invented the first instant coffee. David Strang, from Invercargill, patented this process in 1890.
@@lindascott6902 And don't forget Carmen's coffee bar on Cuba Street.
love the video! I am looking at moving to Wellington and its a great way to help sus out the place!
Thanks for watching and glad the video helps you! Hope you're move goes well
That first part of the video where you saw that long black and white photo of the staff was the Hannah's shoe factory. NZ made a lot of stuff back in the day.
can't beat Wellington on a good day
Thank you for another wonderful video. That was a walk down memory lane (again). I used to like Cuba Street. As you previously mentioned Cuba Street was named after an early settlers’ ship, as is Tory Street and Oriental Bay. I spent a lot of time at the Mount Victoria lookout showing visitors the views. My parents, sister and I each had houses on the side of the hill. The views over Evans Bay, the Harbour and airport, Cook Strait (my house) were rather nice. You do get used to the narrow streets. Enough for now, I could go on and on! All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for giving us an insight of your special memories here in wellington! That’s why we document so we can show you an insight for people that used to live here in the past too 🙂
Duck Island Icecream is the bomb! Made in Hamilton, NZ. You can buy a few types in the supermarket. Their vegan icecreams are my fav :) p.s I prefer LOTR.
Beautiful Vlog
Brilliant!!
Loved it guys. I am from Germany and consider moving there.
Beanbags are owned by the bar. Their outdoor licence for the park starts 1 October and goes through summer. I visit on weeknds wuth my boy and play him at chess. I have beer, he has coke
Awh thanks for filling us in on that one, was definitely unsure about it 😂 hope your enjoying the weather these days in wellington all the best Glen And Mado ❤️

Haha thanks very much for tuning in! Welly is rocking, heaps of fun and plenty to do😀
Summit of Mount Te Aroha is easy, if you want to look up its Maori meaning. and watch the First Summer Sunrise for 2023.
When you visit Hobbiton, the Caves, and Surf at Raglan Beach.
Yes, Zealandia is really special
Wellington rock's u 2 as well 😅

Glen you were right, those bean bags are for the bar haha.
Go and see the ballet at St James
Oh no! You only had to walk 30 secs up from the Bagels and you would’ve found Midnites cafe who are open 24hours! (Almost) A Wellington institution! Great coffee
be sure to try a flat white when you trying out Wellington's great coffee stops
Haha I prefer black coffee as you can actually taste the quality of the beans properly 😉
Wellingtonians are also known to be Coffee snobs haha
There is a 7 Sister housing row in SanFrancisco as well.
Have you been to San Francisco lately? It's a total shit hole, so disappointing it used to be such a beautiful city but it's amazing how one shit government can do so much damage, FJB
@paton57 Not in the last few years, seen videos of how bad it's gotten under Biden, much like Vancouver has under Trudeau.
@@Andy_M986 Be sure to wear flowers in your hair.
Nice waterfront and colonial buildings!
you are right about the wind in Wellington. I live here and most days the wind is so strong you need to fight to stay on your feet. Te Whanganui A Tara is still a wonderful place to go to. I would recommend Te Papa (the museum of new zealand).
Place: a small street or court
Should have kept it if heritage!
Wonky definitely a word glen , read mado the wonky donkey story
Everyone had to evacuate
Nah, I'm Maori, plenty other places in Aotearoa way betta than wellington they just had an attack by the police and government on the people for protesting peacefully, the weather all good at mo😮 most times not good😮 the people throughout Aotearoa basically all good😊 enjoy our blessed country😊
wellington. 2 happiest days is wellington, the day you arrive and the day you leave. but you cant beet wellington on a good day, all 5 of them. and summer, its the last weekend of Jan, then back to miserable windy winter.
You are so Deluded - Wellington Sucks - It's what I imagine Death to be like, I imagine Invercargill might be worse, but I've never Been, I went to Wellington earlier this year and I'm pretty sure I'll never be tricked into going ever again - It has no real reason to exist.
So where do you live that’s so much better? Just asking for a friend.

I wasn’t so impressed by Wellington when I went to visit, but I was only there for a day. Still, I went driving all over the city to the popular neighborhoods the ones in this video too. I also went to dunedin, which I thought was charming and adorable. Look like half modern upscale and casual/ half Europe. it just seem like a much nicer town then anything Wellington had to offer but the coffee shop and bean bags they went to this video looks really cool.
@klle3419 I lived in Duedin for nine years, from student to unemployed muscian, cold, but if you didn't get up until noon, it was fine.
@@BillyHell01 I love the architecture of having European buildings, but also in modern infrastructure. I didn’t want to leave dunedin. seems like a wonderful small town to live in - because it had metropolitan vibes too
